We stayed 3 nights at this lovely site at the end of August. The site is right next to a good long beach and great for water activities and families. We did some great walks nearby and there are interesting places to visit such as Logan Botanical garden and the Mull of galloway. The site is very clean and well managed especially given the current situation with COVID 19. We felt well looked after and safe. Definitely a place to come back to.
This is our "go to" site for our main (usually only) holiday, so know what to expect in terms of location and places to go etc. We know the layout and pitches and have our favourites (the quieter ones at the back, not lined up on the front row).
This year was a bit different in that the site was full, so there was less choice of pitch. But that didn't matter - the site is long and sprawly, so never felt overcrowded.
Yes, there were lots of families with children enjoying the beach and what looked like cold sea, but they were never a nuisance.
It's mainly grass - but well drained and hard (lots of tapping of awning pegs). It can be windy, and while we were there there was a terrific overnight storm. But the pitches at the back are more sheltered.
There's no nearby shop, but the village store in Drummore is only 4 miles away and sells everything. Stranraer, a bit farther away (12/13 miles) has a Lidl on the outskirts and a large Morrisons.
I can't comment on the facilities as we have never used them, but they were cleaned twice a day and the service points were regularly sprayed and cleaned etc.
And as ever, the staff were unobtrusive, friendly and helpful.
Only slight negative (and some people may disagree) - where have all the rabbits gone?
We stayed here with our family in two vans. This was the first trip for us this year and it was made with distancing concerns unfortunately. The solution to the facilities issue was simple and brilliant, two bands, two hooks. Two hooks used, facilities full. Of course the public can choose to stay safe or ignore good systems and of course some did but thank you club for initiating a great system. Of more important note however were the site staff, they worked so hard and with such good grace that they made us feel safe. I needed to make my feelings and appreciation clear to them and I would like the club management to know the same. Thank you for helping us get a little bit of normality back.
Stayed here for a couple of nights. Lovely peaceful site right on the beach. Plenty to do nearby such as visit Portpatrick, Logan botanical gardens and mull of Galloway Lighthouse. Wardens are working so hard during this pandemic to keep facilities clean and us safe. Thanks to the site team for being so helpful. See you again soon.
Fantastic location with beautiful unspoilt views. Our dog became a beach bum - couldn’t get him off it! The area is superb with great natural views. Walks on the beach and along the coastal pathway are within yards of your pitch and just so relaxing. Lovely to sit and watch the sunset over the bay in a peaceful setting. Wardens were friendly and helpful, both on arrival and with info requests during our stay. Pretty easy to get around the area with the motorhome as well, so we were easily able to visit attractions in the area. We’ll definitely be back!
What a lovely site to get away from it all. Two minutes from the beach. Nice spacious pitches, some quite private too and plenty of them, mainly grass but not a problem even during wet weather as the site is very well drained.Facilities always spotless, staff friendly and helpful. I wish it was nearer to home so we could visit more often.
For such a large site, NEB, offers wonderful tranquility, particularly at this time of the year. This part of Scotland is incredibly quiet and unspoilt - excellent if you particularly enjoy road cycling as the interconnecting farm roads are fabulous for this. The site itself offers lots of pitches with good privacy if wanted, others with sea views and many right opposite the shoreline. Facilities up to usual club standard, friendly and helpful wardens, and a fish and chip van which visits on a Tues and Saturday evening is excellent. A great place for all outdoor lovers and for everyone who appreciates peace and quiet.
This was our first visit and will not be our last. A perfect site for the long weekend we had but not sure if the surrounding area within reasonable traveling distance could support a week or longer holiday. That said the lighthouse at the Mull of Galloway is a must visit and if you are lucky enough and get a good day like we had then you can see Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Cumbria. Portpatrick is a lovely little harbour but apart from the lifeboat station and a couple of hotels serving meals not a lot else. Forget Stranraer for anything other than supermarket shopping and fuel this town looks as though it has suffered from the ferry terminal moving to up the coast.
Loved this site, very scenic, clean and very spacious with a selection of different kinds of pitches. Able to get advice and pick own pitch which suited our dogs being so close to the lovely beach. Would definitely visit again, to get away from it all. Highly recommend for getting away from it all.
It’s 20+ years since we visited this site previously as a family with 2 touring caravans.
The site is still as beautiful- pitching areas for all tastes and a great beach for family fun, boats and dogs. Most pitches are grass but there are a few hard standing pitches, some pitches are in sheltered gorse lined areas and there are lots of pitches on the front very close to the beach. There seemed to be a few seasonal pitches and there are facilities for boat owners including a boat wash at one of the toilet blocks.
Facilities are up to the usual high standards and there are 2 toilet blocks. The wardens are very friendly and hard working and the office has a good range of necessary supplies including camping goods and milk etc (especially liked the idea of frozen lemon and ice supplies for the G&T). A fish and chip van calls as does a wet fish van- though we didn’t get chance try them out.
This time we came in a motorhome. We found our ideal pitch and enjoyed fantastic weather for the first 2 days. We were happy to stay around site- Mum has had a heart attack recently so isn’t as mobile as before.
However the lack of public transport could be an issue for motor-homers wanting a longer stay if they don’t want to take the van off pitch.
For a family break or for those with dogs, the beach and the dunes make this is the perfect site especially if you’re in a caravan and have the car if you want/need to go further afield. If the weather is fine, I can’t see that most people would venture far from the site and the beach.
A special mention needs to go to Steve the warden who helped in the pouring rain on our 3rd day when I was unable to undo the gas valve to change the empty cylinder. He then went above and beyond to bring the new cylinder to save me carrying it back to the opposite end of the site from the office. Saved the day- thanks so much.
All in all a lovely stay and I will be recommending it to friends. Hope to return again soon.
