Beautiful location but left disappointed

Having come to this site for a number of years, I have to say, unfortunately we have chosen elsewhere for next years family holiday. This is for a number of reasons; 1) Poor site maintenance: 3x prime, Beach facing pitches still have not had their electric boxes fixed after a whole year, showers are muddy and run down, games room still out of order, kids play area still appears run down And the door on the washing room is still hanging off it’s hinges. 2) Staff: Not as friendly a welcome as usual, lacking the personal touch it previously had. We reported an issue with a dog fouling everywhere and this was never addressed with the owner, despite being told about it on numerous occasions by a variety of people. The main reception is no longer open all day and only a few hours AM and PM. 3) Site safety; it’s meant to be 5mph around the site and at best, people do 15/20mph. It’s become unsafe to let little ones play out and doesn’t appear to be enforced by staff. With all this being said, it is the most stunning place/beach. We have seen the site get busier and busier Over the years and prices hiked, isn’t it time the club invested more in this rough diamond, perhaps then we would go back and make more happier memories.

Nice location, but

Having been here for nearly a weeks stay we are disappointed with the site. The games room is closed due to flooding last winter. It should not be advertised with a games room, our son was very disappointed. The play ground was very small. The location is really great but the site it self needs updating badly. It could be a jewel of a club site if the club would upgraded and invested in this site. Would go back if upgraded,

No problem with electric

Stayed 5 nights and site full, few pitches to choose from on arrival. No problems with electric during our stay, but there were notices about possible problem in the laundry room. Problems were around new campers particularly this year, washing dishes in laundry and empting greywaste water in fresh water drain. Our neighbour said there was even a guy out on his first trip, emptying toilet cassette in waste water drain and remarked well it's waste water isn't it! For newcomers perhaps more explicit signs are needed. Good for cycling if you have electric bike or very fit as some routes very hilly.

Good rural site

Although this is a lot by trek from the M6 (over two hours) it is a very nice on the beach site. We managed to get a pitch on the front row. It’s quite a big site but has only two rather small toilet blocks. For instance each one has only three showers and three sit down loos in the Gents. Add into the mix Covid and the middle ones were cordoned off. But they were nice and clean as usual We had a grass pitch but I think there are no hard standings. Outside of the gate entrance there are a couple of really nasty potholes -real caravan killers but I guess this is council land Plenty to see in the vicinity. We likened the peninsular to a mix between Devon and Anglesey. Port Patrick is the jewel on the west coast. Apparently Boris Johnson wants to put a bridge/tunnel across to Larne(28 miles). But in the middle of the channel is Beauforts Dyke,a thousand foot channel where, after the war 1 million tons of unused ordnance (and a couple of tons of Nuclear waste) were dumped. Scary!!

Good location for the beach and exploring, however poor that you can be left with no electric.

We looked forward to this site, however left disappointed. The location was ideal for us and with the beach just being over the shrubbery brow, our little boy was going to love it. We did enjoy the location and liked the beach, albeit beware when the wind gets up you really know about it. This site just left us with disappointment as on the second night the electric went off around 21:00, I went down to the office but nobody was present and there was a sign stating that they are aware the electric can trip but there is nothing an electrician can do to stop it and so up until 20:00 please call the number given and they can switch back on, however after 20:00 you have to wait until around 09:00 the following morning to have electric on. It trips a whole row of pitches so not good at all! I find it disappointing that they are happy to have towards 200 pitches and charge accordingly, however the site can’t handle it and electric regularly trips, not good when you have a young boy to keep warm etc. Facilities are sufficient and generally clean.

Lovely quiet coastal site

Just planned an overnight here but stayed another night and would return. Large well laid out site just behind a gravel beach and lovely bay. Friendly staff, clean well maintained facilities. In hot sun it felt more continental than Scottish!

Fantastic site

Great pitches with plenty of space .. The site is one of the best on the network but don't tell anyone. The staff are friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be back.

Spacious grassy site, right on the beach

This was the first CAMC site we had stayed at and we were hugely impressed. Wide spacious pitches, mostly grass, uncrowded and in a beautiful setting right on the beach, ‘in the middle of nowhere’, yet still plenty to do, find and explore in the surrounding area. Roads in the vicinity were so quiet it felt perfectly safe to cycle on them. We will be returning, that’s for sure.

Forth time and counting

We just had our 4th visit and booked another week in August, can't get enough of the big pitch spaces, great beach and crystal clear water, peace and quiet, excellent Vodafone 4G signal, great staff, perfect for wind surfing and inflatable flamingoes

Never changing, always the best.

We first came here in 1976 with two young children who loved the wide open space and the beach and sea. For the past 15/20 years or so we’ve been every year and still love it. It’s as perfect for two rather decrepit oldies as it was for a young family back in the day. Yes, it’s not near a shop, but the village shop in Drummore is only 4 miles away and has everything you could want. The pitches are almost level (maybe just one board needed on some), and the long empty beach is just over the small dune. Only one complaint - where have all the rabbits gone?
