Booked for 3 nights, but only managed 2 due to breaking down on way ! Explained my situation and kept site owners informed, who assured me it wasn't a problem arriving late as they lived on site.It was worth all the hassle when we eventually arrived to find a warm welcome and our own choice of pitch which was well presented and maintained . The town of Minehead is about a fifteen minute walk and we were surprised as to the size of the Main Street with plenty of choice for eating etc, the local pub was a five minute walk away. Facilities on site were excellent , quite a few people with dogs which wasn't a problem( dog friendly pub) had a good stay and would recommend it to anyone.
Really nice site and friendly wardens. Turned up to book in, offered a chocolate and advised to leave the van parked near the entrance whilst we had a wander round to see which pitch we wanted as most of the roads round the pitches were dead ends so it’d be awkward to turn our van round. Nice large pitch (No. 9), all pitches seem nicely spaced out. Clean, warm shower block, just like any other C&MC site really. The site is based in Alcombe, literally just on the edge of Minehead, so had a walk down to the seafront which took about 20 minutes. Not a lot going on as it was the middle of January but good to feel the wind on your face. Near to the site is a Co-op, pub, Indian Restaurant, Kebab shop, fish and chip shop so great variety. We went to the Indian Restaurant for a meal which was really nice. On the Saturday we walked up to Dunster Castle which was a nice walk on a track and took about half an hour. Disappointed that the castle wasn’t actually open but spent a nice hour wandering around the grounds. Stopped in at the Britannia Pub on the way back to the site and had a couple of well earned beers!!. Nice local pub, but made to feel welcome. We take our cat when we come away for weekends and obviously like to take him for a little wander on his harness where it’s quiet with no dogs and part of this site has a few pitches up on a higher level. This area was unoccupied when I first took Ollie for a walk so he enjoyed exploring. Loved this place and just over an hour from home so will definitely be back, lots more to explore. Big thanks to the wardens.
Stayed here from Boxing Day to NYE in caravan. Had the best pitch location we have EVER had in all our years of caravanning!!! excellent facilities as always from CMAC. Carol and Chris were like long lost friends even though we had not met them before. You can see that they are very passionate about their site. There is a 20 minute walk into town which has all the shops needed, along with a variety of eateries (even in December) there are larger retailers at the end of the town also walking distance. It was its location to the beach which attracted us. We have a small dog who adores the beach so we made the most of it - even in icy gales!!!! nice to blow away the cob-webs.
Stayed at Southport last Christmas for 11 nights at CMAC site, the atlas gives huge sandy crescent....BUT NO SAND mile and half of marsh land so no access to any beach apart from getting in the car to Formby!!!! Very disappointing kiss me quick run down place...would have left except paid in full for the whole stay...
The steam train ride from Minehead to Bishops Lydard was an extra bonus and picked the best sunniest day to go - blue seas and snow on the hills....we need to use these facilities as far too many are in decline to thanks to all the special "volunteers" who keep these line open and magnificent trains running.
Overall great site we do know its location to many other special lovely places but did not take advantage this time around. At just over 3 hours from our home its a great stay in every respect.
We will be back as soon as we can.
Stayed over a very wet and windy New Year weekend. The site was immaculate, showers & toilets all as expected in CC. Wardens very friendly and helpful especially as we arrived nearly an hour early on a busy Friday but were still allowed in to choose our pitch and set up. Pitch 19 was brilliant with non real close neighbours and room for the dog to have a little run, there is a great dog walk on site too so very pet friendly. Despite the site being full never had to queue for facilities. My only issue - recycling, there are no facilities for members to recycle any waste. Everything goes into the big Vidor skips & it says on the skips that recycling done back at the waste centre. I will be surprised if it’s as efficient or cost effective as if it was done on site but I could well be wrong! Great site no road noise of any note and so close to so many things to do you can’t get bored.
Great site, immaculately presented and looked after by a lovely couple.
Weather was dire whilst there but didn’t spoil our time there.. great location and very close to variety of supermarkets should you need them
Will certainly be returning
Very well kept kleen site,as always, with dog area.Wardens very helpful with all the local information etc. Walking distance to the town, local shops and beach. The beautiful village of Dunster is only 3 miles down the road. Exmoor is only a few miles away with amazing walking, views and pubs. We enjoyed it so much we are coming back for christmas, as the site is open all year.
We have been here before in our motorhome. It is well sheltered site in several levels. Only one toilet/shower block. Easy access to Minehead town and beach, ten/fifteen minutes walk. Chippy down the road, five minutes also shops and other take-aways. Pub tucked up in the village, ten minutes walk away.
Lovely walking right from the site through the village and up on to Exmoor. We walked to Dunster for coffee then down to Dunster Beach and back to Minehead along the seafront. Hairy Dog is MInehead is a big busy pub.
Nice walk along past the quay (Old Ship Aground) up through the woods almost to Porlock, to the Burgundy Chapel. You could walk back via North Hill.
Great dog walk on site but too many signs about the danger of sliding down the bank. Why so many signs, one at the stat of the walk is sufficient.
We WILL be back.
Just returned from this site and found it very well kept, Showers and toilets immaculate. The couple running the site were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble and they had time to explain things we needed help with, as this was our very first experience of caravanning, will return again,
Visited for a 3 day break during half term with grandchildren. Site was kept really well & wardens very friendly & welcoming of the children. We didn't miss a play area as there was so much to do within a few miles of the site. Spent a great day at Dunster Castle and another in the forest at Nutcombe Bottom. Easy to walk into the town & to the nearby fish & chip shop. Thoroughly recommend the site as so much to do nearby and wardens are so hospitable.
This was a lovely little site and ideally situated for Exmoor and the coast. It is in within walking distance of the town and three major supermarkets.
We visited Dunster Castle and Lynton and Lynmouth. Porlock is also within a short car drive. As we only live in Newton Abbot we will visit again for a weekend.
