Great Site but just a bit too busy during Pandemic

We had a really enjoyable week staying at Merrose. It is ideally positioned for great coastal path walking, close proximity to St Mawes and Portscatho and an easy walk to lovely beaches that were not overly busy. However I did feel a bit sorry for the wardens who were doing their utmost to keep the site safe and clean but the site was just so busy. There is only one toilet block on this site and with only three male showers and three male toilets available for use the queues began to form before 7am - I worked out that there must have been at least 300 people on site. Also, I’m not sure whether there are any rules for dog owners or if there are they are certainly not adhered to. We stayed on pitch 35 and the caravan opposite had six dogs with them. The caravan two removed had two dogs which they took for a walk as far as our pitch and let the dogs foul on the grass right in front of our van and the van behind us thought it was ok every morning to open their van door and let the dog out to do its business. What I can’t understand is why the club charge for children and not dogs. I’m sure that providing dog walks and clearing up after dogs is more hassle than any child would be. Anyway have been to this site twice before and loved the surrounding area but will definitely not return in these busy times during the pandemic.

Super site - clean and safe

First time out for a couple of nights under COVID rules and Merrose Farm made the experience as painless as possible yet provided a clean and safe site. The use of the band system works(place band on hook which limits numbers in facilities at any one time). Despite some Covidiots who could not understand that when the three or four hooks were full with bands on, they had to wait until someone comes out, the measures in place provided for a reassuringly safe place. Plenty of hand gel for going in and out of facilities, however a sign is needed to control the use of dish washing facilities. The site provides all the measures and advice but we would recommend you look out for yourself as there are some Covidiot campers who do not believe In abiding by the rules. Yes there are a few queues but they are a small price to pay for safety. Lovely area but you do have to cross a main road from the site to walk to the beach but it is worth the effort. Fish and chips and pizza vans visit the site and the off lead dog area is a treat to see so many dogs free playing. Popular site, was almost full when we got there. Would definitely recommend. thank you Merrose Farm.

Great site

We normally do north Cornwall so this was a first , very nice relaxing site and great location for the coast path walks . Love the fish and chips and pizza and lots of good pubs near by for food . Loved the st Anthony head walk and the village of portloe lovely . Winding narrow lanes a bit scary . Only criticism that really needs to be address is house rules on site . We did have people walking in front of our caravan to the dog walk and that was acceptable as that was the location we had available but what is not acceptable is people just walking in between the caravans and not following the paths as this is intrusive and suspect this is non caravan club members who no no better . So note to wardens please just make this clear when people arrive that no cutting through the caravans and to use the path . This got worse our second week as got busier Apart from this small criticism the site is well positioned and enjoyable and would come again

Quiet location

Have just returned from a lovely stay after the site has now opened for the summer . Friendly and helpful staff on a well maintained site . Peaceful and unspoilt area of Cornwall , ideal if you want to get away from it all. Due to guidelines introduced as a result of Covid 19 we felt that this had been organised well by the staff however the wrist band system seemed to confuse some members and often all the pegs were full whilst facilities were empty and on numerous occasions more than the maximum allowed were utilising the wash rooms at the same time . Very disappointing for those of us without the luxury of our own facilities , having to queue as people were choosing not to use their own . Unfortunately without reducing the capacity on site and enforcing the use of facilities in individual outfits the issues will not be resolved . Well done to the staff for their endless cleaning and ensuring that they were compliant.

Great Site in a secluded part of Cornwall

This site is out of the way which means the beaches even in August are not packed. It does take longer to get to other parts but worth the trade off. Can walk to the coast path in 10 minutes.

A Wonderful Site!

Last month we stayed a Merrose Farm for a second time. It is beautifully maintained by the ever helpful Staff. The main attractions for us are the location, and of course the most excellent dog exercise field, which is kept in pristine condition which enables one to exercise an active dog in compete safety. This aspect is very important to us, so we always make sure the "dog walk on site" means an area such as that at Merrose Farm. We expect to return there next year.

Peace and quiet in an unspoilt area

Our favourite site but do not go there if you like commercialised areas. It is so beautiful and natural with loads of walks and plenty of places to visit. The wardens were wonderful I broke my wrist on the first day of my holiday and they couldn't do enough for us, an especial thank you to Steve who was the warden on duty when my accident occurred he was so thoughtful and caring. Looking forward to returning next year!!!

A Lovely Stay

I had not been to this site for many years and hopefully will not be many years before I return. A lovely site and so well situated for easy access to so many beautiful and interesting places. The coastal path is easily accessed by just crossing the road and the King Harry Ferry is nearby aiding road travel. The site is spaciously laid out, beautifully kept and very attractive. Staff were welcoming and helpful, creating a relaxed and respectful atmosphere.

Second visit to this lovely site

This was our second visit to this site this year. Good approach with the traffic lights making access so easy. The staff are very friendly and when we inadvertently put our caravan on the tent pitch the lady warden was very polite when told me cannot put our caravan there saying it was probably her fault for not telling us which stopped us feeling idiots! Facilities were good very clean nice hot showers. Excellent dog walk in a field where you can let your pouch of the lead. Area is beautiful Portscatho to is a lovely Cornish village with sandy beach and short walk along coast path to the Hidden hut for tasty lunch. It will be on our list for another visit.

A brilliant site!

This is a hidden gem! Beautiful, spacious site. Generous pitches, clean facilities and friendly staff. A fair distance to big supermarkets so we pack accordingly as it's worth the drive. Quiet site but plenty of fun for the children in the park. A calm and friendly atmosphere. Will come here again and again. Wish we had stayed here longer instead of going to treamble valley afterwards, which was awful!
