First of all I should say that we do not normally visit the same site twice in one year, but this time was an exception for two reasons:
1/ It's a lovely quiet site in a superb location, and
2/ Our first visit was during the really hot spell in July. It was so hot that we didn't manage to do very much during the heat of the day other than sit in the shade with cold drinks.
However, this time we made the most of it. The cycle ride to Upton along the backroads was very pleasant with very little traffic, and there are loads of walking possibilities direct from the site. The wardens sell a very handy little map in the site shop, which is a blown up version of the OS map of the immediate surroundings. It was really easy to plan several local walks starting at the entrance gate.
Apart from that the site is spacious and well maintained. The wardens are very friendly and helpful when needed . . . . . Will definitely visit again.
Motorhomers
This is a good site if you have a caravan, the details of this site are quite misleading. It says there is a bus service with a bus stop just outside the site, what it doesn't say is that on Saturdays and Sundays there is no service. It also says that there is a village within half a mile, but it is actually nearly a mile away and consist of a shop and a pub, not really worth the walk. So if you have transport I suppose it is a good site to stay on. But if you have a motorhome and don't want to move it every time you want to go out then don't bother going. We will not return.
Great Site and even better Staff
This site is great but what makes it better is the staff, nothing is too much trouble. We stayed here for a week at the beginning of October, it was a pretty dismal day on arrival so we picked the first pitch we thought looked good, there were plenty of other pitches available but we just wanted to get set up. When we plugged out TV into the van we could not get any channels at all, so began the investigation as to what could be the issue, the TV, the aerial socket, the wiring, the receiver/booster or the onmi directional aerial on the roof of the van. we went to see the wardens first of all to see if they had had any issues regarding signals and they said not, we discussed the possible issue and one of the wardens offered to plug our TV into his aerial in his van to rule out a TV issue, really nice of him, I brought the TV round, he plugged it in and to my delight 186 channel tuned in so we know it wasn't the TV, I did a bit more investigation back at our van and concluded that the socket and wiring were all ok. During our discussions with the wardens they pointed us in the direction of the nearest caravan spares store, about 2-3 miles away. Off we went to but a new receiver/booster and possibly an outdoor aerial, we didn't get the outdoor aerial as it was the booster that was the problem, replaced and sorted all thanks to the help of the wardens. The next day when the weather cleared it was obvious that he pitch we had chosen was not going to benefit from whatever sun was likely to shine as it was shaded by the trees, so we decided that we would hopefully move to a more open pitch, we went to see the wardens to check that this would be ok and they were more than happy for us to do this, just asked us to let them know the new pitch number and swap the barrier tag, simple. This is a big site and the wardens have a lot to do, but they do it with ease, all while keeping their calm when people do not show the respect they and the site deserve, see previous reviews from other. Keep up the good work guys and thank you.
Selfish People
Have read previous reviews regarding unfriendly wardens. This was not my experience at all. I found them all very helpful and friendly. I booked this site from the 8/10 until 12/10. This is one of our favourite sites but isn’t perfect. Wi if is terrible as is phone signal ( some may say hallelujah ) Surprisingly for a site this big and popular there is no service pitches ( come on Caravan Club )
I very rarely write reviews as I find most of the clubs’ sites to the same high standards. However, I saw something on my visit which has surpassed anything I’ve seen previously. On Friday 9/10 a couple turned up in their Dethleffs Motorhome driven by the man. The woman driving a Fiat 500. At around 2 pm they promptly parked the Motorhome on one pitch and the car on another across from them. There it stayed until 6.30 when it was noticed by the wardens ( Friday is very busy so am not surprised they didn’t notice until their end of day round ) When challenged by the warden they brazenly admitted the car was theirs but their friends were only 5 mins away. I heard the warden telling the woman that you can’t book pitches this way - she seemed completely nonplussed ! Simply they are selfish and not nice people ! This was also confirmed on the Saturday as they waited outside the Motorhome for their takeaway to be delivered . The older man was heard to say in a loud voice ( I wish they would hurry up I’m f ***ing starving. ) I heard inside my caravan 25 mtrs away. What made it worse was there was a young teenage girl there.
I may be wrong but I think the advance party tactic is the norm. First ones there are probably retired and the second finish work and catch up. So maybe safe to say they will do it again ! As they were club members it should be possible to flag this up against these people’s account so that future sites can be pre-warned . I’m not being a prude or busybody but there must have been dozens of people who drove passed the blocked pitch who would have liked it.n
Helpful in time of need
We had a wonderful stay on this site. One way circulation system was well signposted and easy to manoeuvre. Great idea tom have separate use toilets attached while the main use toilets and showers were being cleaned. Unfortunately my wife fell on entering the toilet block and cut her knee. We were helped by two ladies while I phoned for an ambulance, luckily one was a nurse. The Assistant Warden and his team on duty that evening were superb in taking over to direct the ambulance though the site when it arrived. The paramedics were both exceptional and while we sat in the ambulance at Worchester Hospital for two hours were very interested to learn about our club, one having just bought a new caravan the other wanting to buy a motorhome. I think we succeeded in pursuing both to join our club. Linda received 10 stiches in her right knee but luckily no bones were broken, but this will not stop us visiting Malvern Hills in the future.

Beautiful and spotless
Stayed here for 2 nights and wished we had booked for longer.. What a beautiful, large and very open site with outstanding views.. Large pitches and very clean shower blocks.. Would highly recommend to anyone as they have facilities to suit everyone... Very well maintained and would like to say well done to all the wardens... Will definitely be back as soon as we can...
Confrontation with the warden
Arrived just behind my sister and we wanted to pitch together after an older club member took exception to that and reported that my sister refused to allow him on the pitch, although he made it clear he didn't really want it he went to the warden. The warden came down on his bike and was not interested in the other side of the story and told us about the rules etc in a stroppy manner. He then saw a man on a motorcycle who he shouted at with the words "Hey you" which was totally out of order, he could have spoken properly to them and told them about going all the way round. Instead that too became an issue .
We have stayed on this site before with no problems and when we pointed out the dogs were loose and fouling on the grass instead of the dog walk he was uninterested. Club rules apply to everyone and wardens can not pick and choose which ones they want to enforce.
He was very confrontational to everyone other than the dog owners.
The shower block that was close to us had a big permanent puddle in the middle of the floor and we were told that the cost outwayed the repair so slipping was a real danger and no warning signs.
The site itself was well maintained and easy access to the shows. I don't normally complain but felt this particular weekend the attitude of the warden to us and others around us was unacceptable.
Malvern Hills
A Lovely, long weekend visit, third time visiting, but all different times of the year, and just as spotless and well maintain whenever you visit
Wardens very helpful, from booking in to leaving, very pleasant
Would recommend for all types of visitors, great for couples and families alike
Perfect site and perfect site staff
Spent 6 nights at Malvern Hills mid Sept could not fault it in any way. Site beyond clean and tidy and staff the most helpful we have encountered in 20yrs plus as club members. This site could be used as an example some sites on the network.
PERFECT!!
Nice site, but pay close attention to the on-site direction signs
This is a lovely large site. Mainly grass pitches, with a varied layout, as opposed to the standard rows of pitches found on other CAMC sites.
The entrance/exit of some of the areas aren't particularly well marked. Because it's mainly undulating grass pitches, an 'ideal entrance/exit route' to these areas has been designated. Some are quite ambiguous, which we found out when arriving and selecting the area for our van. The entrance to our particular area, was marked with a sign which we believed we followed, that led to a large concrete pad, with no units sited on it. As our chosen grassy spot was right next to the pad, we drove straight to it.
When we were reversing onto our spot, we were politely-ish told off by one of the wardens. Apparently, we didn't enter the grass area between the small sign and a single 12" high scaffold pole in the grass, with red tape on it. No words on it, just a single pole with red tape. I tried explaining that if I'd known that, I would have done so. He did volunteer that the grass area entrance signing could be a little ambiguous, if one hadn't been to the site before. His attitude, whilst completely polite, was 'but, if I catch you coming in that way again....' Local knowledge is key. Needless to say, I hugged that post whilst entering and leaving! (Looking at the tyre tracks in the grass, I certainly wasn't alone at missing the entrance/exit. They were all over the place!)
Our 'telling off' didn't detract from our stay. I only put it here so other newcomers can look out for the area entrance/exit posts, when selecting their pitches.
We'd definitely recommend the site. It's kept very clean and is spacious. The local area is stunning and well worth a visit.
