Nice peaceful site

This was our very first stay at a CMC site. Upon arrival staff were friendly and gave us a map of the site.Due to arriving mid afternoon there were only 3 pitches left, so we had to drive round several times to locate where they were. The only one we could find was at the back of Bluebell Dell, right by the chemical/waste water drains and the storage compound, so not a very attractive pitch! The area was under a canopy of trees so very secluded, quiet and peaceful. Lots of rabbits and squirrels darting about and there was an owl who hooted his way throughout the night - but didn't disturb us too much. The site is in close walking distance to Chirk and the castle entrance is next door. Warning, if you're planning on visiting the castle be prepared for a steep 3 mile trek from the castle gates, hard going in places! Also don't use SatNav as it takes you through the smallest of lanes and then told us to drive through the castle grounds which brought us out by the castle gates and the site entrance! Ideally you need to come into Chirk itself and then turn right at the war memorial. Can't comment on cleanliness of toilets/showers etc as they were all closed due to Covid. We had a lovely break and are looking forward to many more ;o))

First visit, very impressed

This our first visit to this site, only an hour from home for our first trip after lockdown. This is a lovely site with nicely spaced pitches amongst the trees. The bluebells were out which was a bonus! Very friendly, helpful staff. Facilities closed due to Covid. Beautiful area for walking, Chirk Castle grounds a were lovely with great views and there are lovely walks along the canals, aqueducts and river. Very happy to return here, loved it!

A lovely site with plenty of space

We stayed here for the first time on 27th Nov, the weather was cold and wet but that didn't stop the stay being great. The welcome was lovely and the pitch was was spacious, we backed right onto the woods which made for a great experience. We will be booking again as soon as we know what's happening next year with covid regs.

Beautiful site.

Beautiful peaceful relaxing site with plenty of wildlife about especially at night with big brave rabbits hopping about like a Disney film. About 10 mins walk to town or chirk tunnel and aqueduct. Large site but very spacious and either out in the open or plenty of pitches under the trees in the shade. Whats not to like. Will definitely come back.

Lovely Tranquil Site

Charming tranquil site in a splendid location. Close to castle, canal, town and gorgeous walks along Ceiriog valley. Spotless facilities. Range of pitches in shady glades or more open. Will definitely return.

Great site, Great Location.

NIcely tucked away location. we found it peacfull even though it was busy. The warders were helpful and nice. the village is with in an easy walk as is the castle. The village it's self has plenty to offer from a Spar to a number of take aways and resturants. The TeddyBare Tea rooms is a must. we also found a pleasent supprise in the Chirk tavern, from the look we assumed it was a converted school house and would be a oldy worldy ale house. No it was a working mens club, The beer and food was cheap, dog firendly and people friendly. We wehere only there for a few nights so we still have a lot to see and explore in the area, so we will be going back.

Beautiful Site

Well presented and managed. Convenient location for places to go and things to do. The Hand Hotel ok for meals, but if you like a Curry the Castle Tandoori is excellent.

Lovely and peaceful

Been to this site a few times over the years and always enjoyed the peace and quiet. Nice friendly wardens working hard to keep the site and toilet blocks in tip top shape. This site has plenty of things to do in the area also good dog walk on site. No play area but if like my granddaughter they enjoy nature and the outdoor life it is great. We spent a few happy evenings sat out watching the rabbits which she loved. Lovely walks in the area on the canal or up to Chirk castle. Bands in use for toilets helps a little here as the showers are separate so no crossed leg waits for the loo whilst someone has a leisurely shower. Local fish shop in village OK and a lovely butchers with loads of choice. Small coop and spar also in the village. The poachers inn a few hundreds yards down the road or can be reached by walking on the canal. OK reasonable meals puddings great and dogs allowed in. Lovely outside seating and play area next to the canal for fine days. Love this site and would highly recommend.

First visit

Our first visit to this site. We have tried many times got in at last. We could only book 5 nights but the warden managed to get us 2 more nights thank you. The wardens well a site is only as good as the wardens and both couples were superb so helpful too and chatty. The facilities well yes very old BUT old and clean so no problem to us. The set up due to Covid was very good as the toilet block was separate to the shower block and the pot wash was outside. Chirk is lovely and the area lovely. Canal great for cycling. The site is in need of upgrade. But this I believe has been delayed due to Covid this would not stop us returning. Thank you

Another stay

Second stay of the year at this site unfortunately Covid got in the way for more, site wardens doing a brilliant job under trying conditions, coping with frustrated campers, extra cleaning to an already "clean, but tired looking site" broken dog waste bins and blocked drains, my only niggle was nothing to do with the site itself but of the inconsiderate people walking through your pitch to take short cuts to the toilet block regardless of how many times you asked them politely not too, do people not read their paperwork or conditions of access, apart from that, weather was brilliant, walks from the site as easy or as hard as you wanted, location and wildlife excellent, another visit already on the agenda.
