Great stay

We were warmly welcomed by a warden who advised us which pitches were available and which got the sunshine and when which was helpful. The site is large and has a lot of open space and it was nice that it was not so regimented as some sites. You really did feel surrounded by nature, Our stay was also very peaceful. There are two factories in Chirk but you can barely hear any noise - it is very minimal and did not affect our enjoyment at all. There were some children enjoying time on their bikes and scooters around the site but it is the August school holidays so it is to be expected really. The facilities were clean and we did not have to queue at all. Yes they do need a refurbishment but we understand this is in hand. Chirk itself is small but with a Spar and Co-op plus some takeaways it has everything you might need. We enjoyed walking along the Llangollen canal over Chirk Aqueduct towards Ellesmere, walking in the Ceiriog Valley, cycling along the towpath to Llangollen across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and visiting the adjacent Chirk Castle and its estate. All in all we had a great time!

KINDNESS (OR NOT) OF STRANGERS

Not so much a site review as an opportunity to say thank you. We were all set to come home yesterday when my partner started to complain of chest pains, and then collapsed to the ground. I immediately panicked, as he quickly became very unresponsive. Our pitch was next to the storage compound. A lady who had just returned her caravan to the compound came over and was kindness itself. She even took over from me on the phone to the emergency services, as I was becoming very stressed & was just desperate for an ambulance. The male warden, whose name I did not get, had become aware of the situation. He came down to the pitch & stayed with me (after the kind lady had to leave) until the ambulance had arrived. These two strangers personified the meaning of kindness and I am deeply grateful to both of them. A person who was not so kind was the Coachman owner who thought that her dog barking non-stop within earshot of the ambulance treating my partner was hilarious, and did nothing to quieten him down even though it was disturbing the paramedics.......As for my partner, he was admitted to hospital for immediate surgery and will hopefully be restored to full health in due course.

Lovely

Super site with so many options for getting out and about locally. Great walks through the castle parkland and canal. Stay only marred by children racing on bikes around the grassed areas and between pictches.

Slice of Heaven

This wonderful, peaceful site should be renamed Watership Down, we have never seen so many rabbits in one place and they are cheeky. This site is perfectly placed for wonderful walks, close to shops, train station and the canal or just to sit back and relax. Site Wardens were friendly and helpful and facilities though limited due to still be in Covid restrictions it was not a problem. Yes they could do with been updated but still very usable. This site was a slice of heaven after a three week tour around Northumberland and Yorkshire, this was a fantastic end to our holiday.

Nice but in need of shake up

Stayed August 21 as covid rules changed over. Very nice site in an excellent location for walking and cycling. However very disappointed with the way the wardens or CC use the covid restrictions to do less. Only 2 shower for approximately 80 odd pitches wich were in need of a refurbishment. No bins out, so even the aged had to take their rubbish to the central bin locations (long walk). Other sites still operating bin sites!!! . When the covid rules changed on Saturday 7th aug the site opened the remaining 4 showers đź‘Ť However closed the annexe still loosing 3 showers, so 4 to the whole site, no shower curtains, and in desperate need off that long awaited revamp. And although rules relaxed still no bins out, WHY ??. Being cynical is this down to the wardens taking advantage of the covid restrictions and doing as little as possible?? Not seen much of them. Shame as this is a lovely site, great location but being spoilt by lack of investment. Come on CC / wardens get a grip and put some effort in.

Perfect for motorhomes

We stayed here for 3 nights in July and can’t wait to book again! The area has everything on it’s doorstep. Chirk Castle is a 20 minute walk away and is well worth a visit. Beautiful town, a canal path and great area for dog walking. We will definitely return, don’t know why we haven’t visited it before.

Wonderful stay

What can I say, we had one of the most enjoyable and relaxing breaks in the years we have been motorhoming. From the welcome when we arrived, to the pitch being ideal, the toilets and showers clean and tidy, and to top it all off the field.... well!! I have a deaf Collie so it is so hard to find somewhere he is able to run with his sister, this was an added bonus. This site is now top of our list and cannot wait to return. The staff even took time out of their busy day to chat and check on people on the site whilst doing their job, not many staff do this, so a great big thank you to the staff for going above and beyond. Along with the stunning walk through the Castle Grounds followed by the walks along the Canal, a perfect weekend had by all.

An ideal location for exploring Welsh countryside and magnificent canal and rail engineering by bike or foot

This pleasant tiered site is adjacent to a small town with good facilities and access to major roads. You can easily walk to Chirk Castle (NT) and along the nearby canal and over the impressive aquaduct. Even more exciting if a train goes across the adjacent viaduct at the same time. There is also a small canal basin and tunnel. The onsite facilities block has been criticised by some as in need of an update, but in fact the current arrangement of having the showers in a separate block from the toilets etc can be an advantage, especially if you are queuing. It was great to wake and find the motorhome surrounded by baby rabbits in the morning, and the visit by the local bobbies on their mountain bikes was a reassuring gesture (I think!). All in all a very pleasant experience.

Struggling with the logic (or lack of it).

We've been to LM's several times & really enjoy the site & the surrounding area. However on our recent visit I struggled to understand the sites approach & logic being implemented under the guise of logic in relation to Covid. All the showers in the men's toilet block were locked, leaving only 2 showers in a separate annex to use, totally inadequate give the size of the site (which was packed). I understand it the same for the women. Wrist band system was evident however, it clearly didn't work as bands often on the pegs but the showers/toilets unoccupied (yes, this is down to the members). When the main services were being cleaned there was no toilet contingency for those 'emergencies' or desperate requirements. When asked why the disabled loo could not be used, Covid was blamed again. However, when I visited the shop to purchase a much needed Ice cream (weather very hot) my attempt to pay contactless was rebuked & an insistence of 'cash only' advised. Surprising seeing they try to portray an image of safety around Covid. Needless to say, the ice cream was returned to the fridge as currently I don't carry cash as I don't want to risk passing on any virus should I be unfortunate enough to come into contact with it. Seems like Covid safety is there when it suits them.

My first visit

This is a sheltered site about a half mile walk from the village and close to Chirk Castle estate. I noted an odd smell (like malt) when booking in and the warden advised me it was either the wood processing factory or the Cadbury’s chocolate factory. Be aware that the wood processing factory works 24/7 and the noise from it is like traffic roar from a motorway. We were in the middle of COVID-19 lockdown when I visited and members were struggling with the concept of rubber bands on hooks when you went in to the toilet blocks. Or they were deliberately ignoring it. I admired the patience of the motorhome driver who waited as I filled my tank with fresh water. It took an age with low pressure the culprit. The walks to town are pleasant but I’m afraid there are not many positive comments one can make about Chirk. The railway station is beautifully cared for by a volunteer group and the aqueduct and viaduct with canal tunnel make for an interesting walk. Try elsewhere for interesting destinations of which there are many. Planning permission is in for a major overhaul of this site.
