Stayed for 2 nights in February. Weather cold but fine. The walk into Knaresborough along the Nidd Gorge is a delight. The pitch was perfectly flat and the site as a whole was well maintained and clean. The facilities are quite new and it was great to have the Wanderer Bar on site. We ate there twice and enjoyed the food. Definitely one to return to.
Stayed for Friday and Saturday night, the weather was mostly very windy and rainy, wanderer on site was excellent, very friendly and great food , small choice but was very good with generous portions.
The site and all facilities were very clean and in great condition. The site itself was also very well looked after and a short bus ride to knaresbrough.
Very nice local pub in the village about 10 mins walk, need a torch in darker nights.
Would happily stay again and recommend.
We have just returned from a short stay at the Knaresborough club site between Christmas and New year. This was our second stay having previously stayed last summer. It is a lovely site in a great location with the added bonus of a lovely bar/bistro on site. We would stay again.
Situated less than 2 miles from Knaresborough town centre it is in a great location and was a nice walk into town albeit along quite a busy road which you had to cross a couple of times as the footpath doesn't go all the way along on one side. It took about 30 mins. On a drier day the walk through the Nidd gorge is lovely.
The village of Scotton is nice too and has an excellent pub, although we didn't eat there, we popped in for a drink and it had nice atmosphere and the menu looked good perhaps we'll try the food next time.
The on-site bistro is excellent, the food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose a take-away pizza, chunky chips and veggie-burger, both were really good and we would certainly use it again.
The site is generally really clean and tidy, the pitches are well maintained and level, the motorhome service point and chemical disposal facilities are excellent. The dish-washing area was also excellent.
The only slight negative is that both my wife and I felt the main toilet and shower blocks let this site down. They were not as clean or as well maintained as we would expect e.g. dust / cobwebs from ceiling vents / tiles . There was a lack of hot water by mid morning in the ladies shower, and in the gents showers there was more water coming from the the shower manifold than the actual shower head. The new toilet/shower facilities adjoining the bistro were certainly more modern but were showing signs of a wear, eg. wobbly toilet flush handles and wonky toilet seats. I also got the impression that the other users weren't taking as good care of the facilities as is more usual.
In summary, a lovely site, great location, the bistro is a bonus but the toilet and shower blocks need some TLC for the price you pay.
We visited the Knaresborough site a few weeks ago and it is fast becoming one of our favourite sites, up to the usual standard of CAMC sites, with friendly and helpful wardens.
Unfortunately I don't have the best of mobility now, so the on site restaurant is a great bonus, and they are now open again for both eat in and takeaways.
All the food we tried was of great quality and at reasonable prices, the Sunday Lunch especially,
The only downside was that the restaurant was fairly quiet, if we don't use it we will lose it, which would be a great shame.
The other bonus for us is the bus stop just outside the gate which enables us to get to Knaresborough, Harrogate or Ripon, you do need be aware of the timetable though as they do not run at regular times and not at all on a Sunday, but this is not the fault of the CAMC.
We will be returning very soon
The campsite is worthy of a 5 star rating however the staff at The Wanderer pub/ restaurant let it down which is why we only awarded 4.
Unsure if this is franchise or not however it is advertised as a bar/restaurant! Currently it only provides takeaways that are mediocre at best and it's staff are rude. The club advertised it is pet friendly and information provided on arrival did not state pets are unwelcome in the Wanderer facilities. There is a lovely, welcoming, dog friendly pub in the village.
The campsite itself was immaculately clean with very welcoming staff, lovely area for walking and cycling.
Will visit again however will not use the bar facilities.
We spent a week here for half term and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Knaresborough and the surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed walks exploring Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Nidd Gorge in addition to Knaresborough itself. The site was very clean and tidy and we enjoyed a drink in the onside bar and a very tasty fish and chips takeaway. All in all, a great visit and we highly recommend this site.
Having read the latest magazine and the info about power cables I was reminded of what I saw at the Knaresborough site.
My friend and I have both been approached on different sites because we were a couple of inches off with the marker on the pitch. The Wardens were correct and we adjusted the position of our vans.
On the Knaresborough site I noticed a caravan which looked to be two feet or more off the two markers the car was parked on the awning side of the caravan and the electricity cable was not completely unwound. This remained the case for the final few days of my stay. The position of caravan, car and unwound cable was therefore an hazard to users of the site.
Apart from that the site was as good as we have come to expect from club sites, we were pleased to see a restaurant and bar on the site which I would love to see on more sites.
After reading the recent reviews we were very dubious as to whether we should come to the site or change our booking. We decided to give it a go and did not regret it one bit. The assistant wardens made us feel extreme welcome, although it might have been our dramatic entrance that broke the ice.
The Bistro was open, hours are limited but its due to staffing, which shouldn't reflect on the site experience. The staff in the bistro are lovely and the food is great. One of the best veggie pizza's my wife has ever had. We are really looking forward to returning in the new year. Thanks to the site and the bistro for a great stay.
We visited here from 12th-15th Sept, we booked it due to the fact it has a bar/restaurant on site, as I have limited mobility so it would be a bonus, and it also stated there was bus stops at the gate to York and Knaresborough.
However, when we arrived the bar/restaurant is closed with a note saying ‘closed 7th Sept until further notice’ and there are bus stops however the buses are every 2 hours so only 3 in the day as the last one back is 5.30!
Very disappointing!
I feel the site information online needs updating to reflect this and also the prices lowering accordingly.
I feel we should have been advised by email that the facilities would not be open allowing us to cancel if we wanted to.
This is the first time in the 20 odd years we have been members that I have felt it necessary to complain but I feel other members need to be aware.
