Great site; I wish new members understood site etiquette

What a lovely site. The location is fabulous with the Guy Fawkes a short pleasant stroll, the river Nidd (hard to get that past Apple’s spelling witch!) a short stroll in the other direction and the on-site bar / takeaway is great and add an an off lead dog walk and the word outstanding comes to mind. The facilities are clean and warm and the pitches are very spacious and well laid out. All in all the site has everything one could ever need……but why are the new (lockdown induced) members dead set on upsetting things by walking through occupied pitches, having Blackpool Illuminated units alight all night, overflowing the bins, and assuming the whole site is an open playground for their children. The speed limit should also apply to bicycles and especially scooters, and dogs on lead means errr keep your dog on its lead when not in the fenced off beautiful dog walk. Not Knaresborough site’s fault at all but please CAMC reiterate the unwritten polite “rules” we have shared and enjoyed for years before quiet sites become too annoying to bother with and we no longer need be a member of a club!

Lovely site but cold facility block

At 12:57 pm we were queued up along a very narrow road with a number of others. he van behind us arrived at 13:00. The access road to the site was blocked by a sign, yet could have easily accommodated all who were there. This is the very same road, where, some years ago a fatal accident occurred as frustrated local drivers tried to get along a route stopped up by a number of vans. To expect folk to arrive at 13:00 exactly after a 2 or 3 hour drive is ridiculous, who can estimate their arrival time that accurately? Why do customers arrive at as close to 13:00 as possible? Because by then half of the first day had already gone, yet we are charged the full rate for half a day. At sites like York we are not allowed to arrive before 13:00, yet have to be off by 11:00. Full rates for part days. Poor service CMC, can't blame the wardens, they are just following Head Office instructions. All of that combined with massive price rises (not seen amongst many of the non club sites) along with the reintroduction of a deposit system (the single biggest commercial advantage the CMC used to have over all others) means that we along with many others will be actively seeking alternative pitches in future. As for the site: Once allowed on and pitched up it is excellent. The Wandered is a great bonus as is The Guy Fawkes in nearby Scotton. Knaresborough is a very pretty town (once away from the busy main road) but very busy at times. Easy walk there along various routes, although the drag along the main road is the easiest. The toilet block was cold whilst we were on site, there appeared to be little or no heat on in the block, chilly when first getting out of the shower. That apart the site is well kept and attractive.

Another wonderful stay

We have been here on four different occasions now and we are never disappointed. The site is well kept and the facilities are clean and tidy. It is close to home, but we do love this site for a host of reasons. The Wonderer serves lovely food at reasonable prices. Today, Valentines night the bistro offered a two course steak meal , with a dessert and a bottle of good wine for £36! The food and service was spot on. The ladies received a red rose on arrival too! Excellent value for money. Well done the site team!

Lovely site

Stayed for 2 nights in February. Weather cold but fine. The walk into Knaresborough along the Nidd Gorge is a delight. The pitch was perfectly flat and the site as a whole was well maintained and clean. The facilities are quite new and it was great to have the Wanderer Bar on site. We ate there twice and enjoyed the food. Definitely one to return to.

2 night weekend stayover

Stayed for Friday and Saturday night, the weather was mostly very windy and rainy, wanderer on site was excellent, very friendly and great food , small choice but was very good with generous portions. The site and all facilities were very clean and in great condition. The site itself was also very well looked after and a short bus ride to knaresbrough. Very nice local pub in the village about 10 mins walk, need a torch in darker nights. Would happily stay again and recommend.

main shower block needs attention

We have just returned from a short stay at the Knaresborough club site between Christmas and New year. This was our second stay having previously stayed last summer. It is a lovely site in a great location with the added bonus of a lovely bar/bistro on site. We would stay again. Situated less than 2 miles from Knaresborough town centre it is in a great location and was a nice walk into town albeit along quite a busy road which you had to cross a couple of times as the footpath doesn't go all the way along on one side. It took about 30 mins. On a drier day the walk through the Nidd gorge is lovely. The village of Scotton is nice too and has an excellent pub, although we didn't eat there, we popped in for a drink and it had nice atmosphere and the menu looked good perhaps we'll try the food next time. The on-site bistro is excellent, the food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose a take-away pizza, chunky chips and veggie-burger, both were really good and we would certainly use it again. The site is generally really clean and tidy, the pitches are well maintained and level, the motorhome service point and chemical disposal facilities are excellent. The dish-washing area was also excellent. The only slight negative is that both my wife and I felt the main toilet and shower blocks let this site down. They were not as clean or as well maintained as we would expect e.g. dust / cobwebs from ceiling vents / tiles . There was a lack of hot water by mid morning in the ladies shower, and in the gents showers there was more water coming from the the shower manifold than the actual shower head. The new toilet/shower facilities adjoining the bistro were certainly more modern but were showing signs of a wear, eg. wobbly toilet flush handles and wonky toilet seats. I also got the impression that the other users weren't taking as good care of the facilities as is more usual. In summary, a lovely site, great location, the bistro is a bonus but the toilet and shower blocks need some TLC for the price you pay.

Use it or Lose it.

We visited the Knaresborough site a few weeks ago and it is fast becoming one of our favourite sites, up to the usual standard of CAMC sites, with friendly and helpful wardens. Unfortunately I don't have the best of mobility now, so the on site restaurant is a great bonus, and they are now open again for both eat in and takeaways. All the food we tried was of great quality and at reasonable prices, the Sunday Lunch especially, The only downside was that the restaurant was fairly quiet, if we don't use it we will lose it, which would be a great shame. The other bonus for us is the bus stop just outside the gate which enables us to get to Knaresborough, Harrogate or Ripon, you do need be aware of the timetable though as they do not run at regular times and not at all on a Sunday, but this is not the fault of the CAMC. We will be returning very soon

One disappointment

The campsite is worthy of a 5 star rating however the staff at The Wanderer pub/ restaurant let it down which is why we only awarded 4. Unsure if this is franchise or not however it is advertised as a bar/restaurant! Currently it only provides takeaways that are mediocre at best and it's staff are rude. The club advertised it is pet friendly and information provided on arrival did not state pets are unwelcome in the Wanderer facilities. There is a lovely, welcoming, dog friendly pub in the village. The campsite itself was immaculately clean with very welcoming staff, lovely area for walking and cycling. Will visit again however will not use the bar facilities.

Very enjoyable half term break

We spent a week here for half term and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Knaresborough and the surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed walks exploring Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Nidd Gorge in addition to Knaresborough itself. The site was very clean and tidy and we enjoyed a drink in the onside bar and a very tasty fish and chips takeaway. All in all, a great visit and we highly recommend this site.
