Nice site Bistro a real bonus !

Really nice quiet site . It seemed that most pitches had the sun all day . The children's playground looked great and there is also a 'games field'. What a great idea to have the Bistro, when we first read about it when booking l must admit that my wife and  both thought that it would be just be 'burger or chicken and chips'etc.  but no, the menu is quite extensive and good value. The Sunday Lunch was delicious and what a treat to be able to have a pint of REAL ALE! Could this be extended to other sites?

Nice site...great kids adventure playground

Wardens were nice... not a major issue but didnt advise of a toddler room despite having a toddler so needed to ask for key the following day as wardens office had closed by the time i had realised... play area was lovely for kids although right next to an open gate which could be accesses by anybody using the private road... that said kids absolutely loved it and haved asked when we couldn return... lovely weekend all round...

A little disappointed

Nice site clean facilities and wardens friendly and helpful. The Bistro was a real bonus, we ate there two nights running. The food was good and reasonably priced, and it was good being able to take the dog into the conservatory. The down side was the 40 minute walk into Knaresborough along a very busy road. Being motorhome owners we walk everywhere so were very disappointed with this. We did ask someone if we could walk along the River into town but he said he didn't think it was possible. Traffic in the town was horrendous, which was such a shame as it is a very pretty town. The dog walk behind the site was okay but very muddy. Such a shame but probably wont return

Not the Best

Having stayed here two years ago we were not impressed with standards. Bins in ladies not emptied at all in the three days we stayed and toilet block was decidedly smelly. Not as clean as it might be dust on top of handwasher and drier was thick I wrote my initials in it and it was still there after cleaning, for 3 days. Dead flies on window sills and generally an untidy site in need of TLC, probably will not return Restaurant was the saving grace, friendly good food and understanably you have to book as it is quite small, it is the one thing that may persaude us to return

Clean up the bar

We had a lovely, warm welcome from the warden and could see since our last visit that investment had led to tidy- looking hard-standing pitches and a great adventure play area for children. Now the big issue that needs addressing right away is the staffing in the bar/cafe area. On Saturday night every table in the conservatory was reserved from 6pm onwards, well rather them than me, because at 5:00pm it stunk vile of cigarettes that the staff in there had obviously been smoking in this 'public place' which is illegal and to me very offensive. It was not the lingering smell of a smoker on clothing or furnishings. It must cost the cc a fortune in glasses, as at 9:45pm anyone still in the bar was turfed out, glass in hand.

Lovely Knaresborough

The site was very clean in all respects, although the Bistro/Bar outside area was looking a little tired. My wife and I took the wonderful walk into Knaresborough via Nidd Gorge - entry to the walk starts just down the road on the right - when you reach the river turn left and this takes you along the riverside for much of the way, but take good walking shoes in case it's muddy. The town itself is well worth it & market day is Wednesday. The castle & museum are very interesting with lovely views of the river & viaduct. Boats are for hire too.

Disappointing start to our holiday

Mindful that members had been turned away for arriving before 1.00pm we purposely arrived just before 2.00pm. Only after paying the site fee were we then advised that we would be pitching on the ‘tent’ field, as no hardstandings were available. This was extremely disappointing and unexpected. We drove through the site and on arrival at the field initially found all pitches taken. We were directed to another section and although there were white marker pegs there were no EHU bollards, water or waste disposal points within that vicinity. We decided to speak with the warden and to express our disappointment and given the field location offered, request a full refund with a view to moving off site. Not the best of starts to our holiday ! The warden was quite clear that we could have a refund but would lose the first nights fee even though we had only just booked in. The field area is more suited to tents than caravans and you get a definite feeling of being on the outside of the site looking in. The warden did make an offer that we could move onto a hardstanding when one became available and we did therefore decide to stay. However, we were pitched directly opposite the farm buildings & children’s playground next to which is the gated access to the dog walk. Local teenagers we seen to be accessing the site via this gate and openly using the playground. Excessive noise was emanating on the evening and what was more concerning was that they were walking through the site to use the site toilet block. The next day we did move onto a hardstanding but be aware that these are not always available and members could be pitched on what is really an ‘overspill’ area. Would we return, yes as apart from the first night the site proved to be everything we expected it to be.

Dissappointed with clubs investment

I have been to this site many times over the years. I do like it apart from the tractor going up and down the track that runs alongside the site. I also agree with many of the points that other reviewers have mentioned but unfortunately I was a little disappointed this year. Most of the times I have visited the site in the past it has rained and because of the time I arrive on a Friday night due to work commitments etc I always seem to be sited on the top grass area which was always very muddy. I had heard this season the the club had invested over the winter and had converted many of the pitches up there into hard standing. Well they have on one little part but the main area is still the same albeit the area for the tents should always remain grass. To make it worse on the top grass area there is absolutely no wifi signal or water point and to get to the electricity post in some cases you need to cross a gully and climb into the trees. I would still go again though!

Worth a visit

Overall this is a good site, although unlike other sites we felt this could have been a bit friendlier, not that we had a bad welcome, we was greeted in a friendly way, and the guy behind the bar was very friendly and helpful, but other members seemed a little distant. I went in to the Bistro which was quite pleasant, I ordered a plate of chips to take-a-way at 4 minutes to 5, the chef did tell me they don't serve till 5 but got me some anyway, albeit I felt begrudgingly. The shower blocks are spotless as we have come to expect from a club site, as mentioned before the working farm can be a bit noisy, 10pm and a Saturday night and the tractor was still driving around.
