Please can the Club introduce a standard arrival time for all sites and also for members to book the type of pitch they require.
This site has a shortage of shower cubicles at busy times
Grass V Hardstanding
We recently spent 3 nights at this site to allow us to visit The Great Yorkshire Show. Excellent bus link to Harrogate made this very easy, however very disappointed to find that on arrival at 1.10 we were clearly told we would be on a grass pitch. I was a little surprised as this booking was made in March but clearly it's a first come first served on day of arrival.
As it turned out we enjoyed the grass pitch as it was busy on the site and the additional field gave us a little more peace and quiet, and thankfully it was dry during our stay, however having stopped on our journey over to Knaresborough, being aware that others had been turned away for arriving early, it was the manner in which we were told quite clearly that we could take a grass pitch or leave it. Not the most friendly of welcomes at a club site, thankfully the spotless facilities, the added bonus of bistro on site and location for our needs took the blunt edge off our less than welcoming arrival.

Arrival time
What justification is there for not being able to arrive at this site before 1:00 pm, when the vast majority of Club sites allow arrival for 12:00. Why should this site be different ?

Bad attitude....
We arrived at Knaresborough CCS recently around closing time for a stopover while returning home from a delightful three week tour of the Scottish highlands.
We were told that all hard standing pitches were taken, but we could have a grass pitch which we gladly accepted.
The problems started next morning when we were ready to set off for home.
We had become bogged done. I went to the office to ask management for a pull out, and was told this was not possible. They did not have a vehicle to do this.
They suggested national breakdown services who might/might not enter a private site.
I asked if they knew anyone locally who could do it and was told no. I suggested a local farmer but was told they would not allow a tractor on the site because of the damage it would cause.
It was suggested I try and find a 4x4 vehicle was on site and request assistance. This was the only option left for me, which I duly did and was pulled out by a friendly fellow club member.
This unhelpful, negative and 'couldn't care less attitude' by management is a disgrace.
Upon arrival we should have been informed that the grass pitches were soft and given the choice.
So, fellow Club Members, beware of the Knaresborough CCS soft grass pitches....

A Great Weekend
This is the first time we have been to this site, we arrived on Friday 8 July just after 1pm and were greeted by very friendly wardens, we found a hardstanding pitch, as all that we could see, was quiet spacious and backed onto the bridleway behind us. As we have 2 small dogs the bridleway was great for taking them for a quick walk in the morning/pm. The site was very clean and tidy and just a short walk down the road (turn left out of the site, cross the main road and continue left) was the entrance to the Nidd Valley walks, we walked through the woods and into Knaresborough, the paths didn't seem too muddy (protected by the trees) and the walk was very good, took approx 40mins - great for the dogs. We would definatley return to this site and stay for a bit longer and walk along the valley into Harrogate, not too far, I think some people were staying at the site and then going to visit the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, a great conveinient base to be in.
We will be back.

Lovely Site
We arrived on a Friday night at 6pm to a lovely welcome from happy friendly wardens. Our friends had arrived and pitched up and so we saw a space next to them and took that. The site is lovely and clean and the hard standing pitches look new with fresh gravel. The toilets were always clean and the whole facilities were up to caravan club standard.
There is a nice play area near the camping field at the far end of the site. There were lots of wildlife to see with little bunnies hopping around. There are lots of hedgerows for the birds. Lovely and peaceful.
We had tea on Friday night at the bistro with a few drinks in the bar. The food was really nice and we received a very generous portion. Main course meals are approx £8.95 and £4 to £5 for starters and desserts.
Saturday rained but that didn't stop us. We had a lovely woodland walk down to Knaresborough approx 5km. There's lots of pubs in Knaresborough and a nice little shopping area.
We will definitely visit this site again. Lovely location! Lovely Wardens!
Thoroughly enjoyed it.
DISAPPOINTING
This holiday had been booked for months advising
make of vehicle, caravan details, hardstanding and awning required.
We left Scotland extremely early on a Thursday morning but due to roadworks journey took about
7 hours. The road from Knaresborough to Scotton
with a caravan is rather treacherous and the entrance to the site
leaves a lot to be desired especially when a vehicle
towing a van on arrival meets with another leaving.
The entrance floods. Only 2 hardstanding pitches left, wardens not interested in our Volvo XC70
with van and awning not being suitable for space available at that pitch so we
had to settle for the tent area which is like Watership
Down with a terrific amount of rabbits, totally unsuitable for a relaxing holiday with 2 gundogs.
The grass was full of droppings. The electric point
is hidden under trees and amongst shrubbery which is not maintained so my husband after attempting to track it had to return to the office to ascertain if there was an electric point available for the grass area. Fortunately we had a long cable and I mean "long".
The overgrown weeds and shrubbery all around the grass area were between 2 to 3 feet in height and the amount of insects especially when trying to eat outside was impossible with the aforementioned
army of rabbits and droppings underfoot.
We received a display badge from the Club earlier this year for 25 years membership but sadly it is not the same Club nowadays.
The wardens' attitude leaves a lot to be desired
too at this site at the present time. When approached to ask a question about the lack of space before I finished back came "well no-one else complained". Strangely enough the following day a hedge at one of the available pitches offered to us when we arrived the day before and was supposedly suitable for our requirements was fiercely
trimmed back enabling another visitor to park up with a VW Passat car and a caravan (no space for awning) and we were offered that.
This is a first complaint from a dissatisfied couple
who have always only used Club sites but our
attitude is quickly changing and alternatives will be considered and visited.

Disgusted
On arrival at the site, after some heavy rain, we found a lake at the entrance which made it impossible for pedestrians to get in or out without balancing on the narrow kerbstones. We mentioned at reception that this was poor, the wardens both had an indifferent attitude, saying " You should see it when it's bad". The site as a whole had an unkempt look, not the usual Caravan Club standard, with weeds galore. The bar/waiting staff in the Bistro had a belligerent attitude and would benefit from some customer relations training. This is one site we would not return to.
