Most helpful Wardens ever

Just had 4 nights at this site. We arrived about 20 minutes early as we had set off early because of the bad forecast (high winds). Upon arrival the lovely Wardens let us immediately onto site, and also 2 other outfits that had done the same. Fantastic common sense rarely seen before at this site. Cannot thank the Wardens enough, we were greeted with pleasant smiles and a little bit of a banter. The site was immaculately clean, lovely facilities, and such a pleasure to be treated with such kindness. Thank you.

Excellent site

8/9 March 2019 Our second visit to this lovely site. Friendly and helpful staff, spotless facilities, with the additional bonus of an on-site bistro, The Wanderer. The site is just under two miles from Knaresborough centre, however, if, like us you have dogs, you can take a longer route via the Nid Gorge. This route will take you around two hours. Once in town, there are plenty of hostelries (most dog friendly) some lovely cafes along the river and the castle is well worth a visit. You can take the train into York or Harrogate for around £7 return (again dogs are allowed on the train.) Back on site, the Bistro offers a varied menu with a decent selection of beers, wines and spirits. We had two main courses and two drinks each and the bill was £48 so around the same price as the nearby Guy Fawkes pub that also does excellent food. All in all, this site will appeal to those who like peace and quiet but also like to eat out and a beer or two. First class.

Blissful

Well, what a warm welcome when we arrived. Plenty spacious pitches to pick from. The new restaurant serverd nice food pity the veg wasn't included (sorry that's my opinion ).But was delicious. Prices were not bad, staff were lovely couldn't be more helpful and pleasant.plenty information on how to get to places. Site was spotless.Dog area was good and pleased to say no dog mess,as being a dog owner, and even better the dog wash area especially after being down on the Nidd for a long walk into Knaresborough. Well done on all the wardens for this lovely site.

Best site near to Harrogate

This is the best, open all year site, close to Harrogate. Some lovely walks along the river Nidd straight from the site. The punch lock gate from the back of the site is especially useful to access the bridleway for a longer dog walk. We were given a Caravan Club leaflet on arrival which stated that the Guy Fawkes pub in the village was dog friendly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The landlord only allows dogs into the bar area only between 3pm and 6pm! A pity as the pub is only a ten minute walk away.

Not what we hoped

We had 2 nights on this site, friendly staff, beautiful site, facilities excellent. I did offer a slight observation that the underfloor heating in the disabled facilities was probably set too high under porcelain tiles. Bare feet, especially disabled people’s bare feet, could be burned without knowing. The bistro and bar were a welcome addition. Children seemed to be running wild, we have dogs and some kids seemed to only want to make them bark, which other campers were obviously not happy about. Loved the site, the staff, and the facilities just a shame we felt we shouldn’t stay there with our dogs. Not sure we would return which is a shame as it is beautiful.

Three night quick break in the sun, February ??

We booked this site for ease of getting into Knaresborough and the Nidds gorge just over the road, our booking in was easy with the receptionist being very polite. The site was very clean and tidy, along with the facilities, I used the on site bar / restraurant each night and was welcomed by the hosts, Gary and wife, very east to get on with, with plenty of conversation during the quieter moments, although the site was full I was very surprised to the bar very quite after 8pm,such a waste of facility. Our host were due to transfer to York soon, I hope to catch up with them there at a later date.

Excellent first visit

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Knaresborough and our first trip out of 2019! Great site with roomy pitches and excellent location close to lots of attractions. Facilities were spotless and the Wanderer Bistro served some delicious food at reasonable prices. It was nice to be able to nip across to the bistro after a long busy day. I agree with other visitors that I'm not quite sure we liked the idea of dogs being allowed in the place though. We went in twice and on the first occasion there were a couple of dogs having a barking match at each other - wouldn't have thought it was too hygienic either to have dogs in eating establishments. Staff in the bistro were very friendly and attentive. Toilets and showers were fantastically clean as usual, apart from one occasion when one lady hadn't cleaned up after herself - a big bug bear of mine why people can't clean the loo when they've finished using it, especially when each cubicle has a toilet brush in it!! Nice play area for the children to use at one end of the site. Lots of things to do in the local area. As a young family, we visited Knaresborough and the castle ruins and Sir Robert's Cave, explored the caves at Stump Cross Caverns, visited Brimham Rocks, took a walk through the Nidd Gorge and took day trips to Harrogate, York and Whitby. Loads more things to do which we couldn't do, due to out of season closures so would like to return to Knaresborough in the near future and explore the places we didn't get round to doing this time.

Disappointed we couldn't stay another night

We managed to get 2 days recently, when we asked the warden if there was any availablilty for the Saturday night she said they were fully booked and to watch out on the web site for cancellations. There was no cancellations. My husband asked if why we couldn't go up at the top area, and was told it is only open in the summer months, this area was hard standing. The weather was like summer last week, we could not understand why the other 19 pitches were not open. Talking to other caravaners on the site we were not the only ones looking for another night. It did not make sense. It is a lovely site cannot fault it until this happened.

Fab Few Days Away

We have just had 4 nights away at Knaresborough and hoping it wont be long before we are able to return. A lovely welcome from the wardens - despite parking incorrectly - yes that was us!! The site is immaculate and such a nice treat to have the "Wanderer" bistro on site. The staff were really friendly and the food delicious, lots of choice, well presented and at realistic prices. I'm not sure what my thoughts are on dogs being allowed in the restaurant - we have two dogs ourselves but even at home they are kept out of the dining area - still it didn't spoil our overall experience but might put other folks off. Lots to see and do in the area and great advice on destinations from the wardens and the exceptionally tidy information room. Perfect all round!

Lovely site

Just returned from a 2 night stay here. The site is lovely, wardens very helpful and easy access from the main road. It’s clean, quiet and very modern with a bar and bistro providing a welcome drink and food at reasonable prices. The facilities are very modern and spotlessly clean. A great dog walk is provided with an area to play ball! There are several walks available in the information room but we only had time to walk into Knaresborough via the Nidd Gorge which was lovely and well worth doing. Knaresborough itself is a lovely little town. All in all, a great site and well worth a visit.
