We had a lovely big pitch, loads of room between us and our neighbours.
The wardens are friendly and helpful. Facilities clean.
We enjoyed a meal at the Wanderer bistro with great service, it was nice to have an onsite facility like this.
We walked into Knaresborough along footpaths and the river which is a great dog walk but quite a way so if you have children it may be too far. We walked back along the main road which is a fast road and footpaths were tight in places. There is information in the info room about buses.
We used a recommended taxi service from the info room to go to Harrogate and they were great, prompt and friendly.
First Visit and Lasting Impressions
We have stayed on Club sites in Yorkshire previously but this Autumn was our first visit to stay at Knaresborough.
The smiling welcome at check in is standard at nearly all of the club sites wherever we have stayed and Knaresborough is no exception and with the warden making a suggestion as to the best pitch for our stay we were off to a very good start.
The fully serviced pitch that we occupied for 5 nights was reasonably level and the only adjustment needed for our caravan was easily achieved by adjustment of the jockey wheel.
The ethos of peace and quiet is preserved by the use of hand carts by the site staff to empty bins so no noisy machines and this was greatly appreciated although we realise that it may not be so practicable on larger sites.
The sanitary conveniences are cleaned to the clubs normal high standards but would be improved by increasing the number of WC cubicles as there are not enough during peak times of the day.
We enjoyed a pleasant and reasonably priced evening meal in the Wanderer restaurant with friends who live in the area. There is a local pub, the Guy Fawkes just 5 minutes walk away in the village of Scutton with a range of real ales and pub food but at higher prices than can be found in the Wanderer.
The Information room is well organised and tidy and the wardens have thoughtfully provided pre- printed 'tear of' slips of paper with directions to local services and the route for a wonderful walk in the Nidd Gorge to Knaresborough.
The city of York is close by (only 15 miles in the car) and easily accessed by using the Park & Ride which also has parking for Motor Homes.
The weather was dreadful during our stay with much heavy rain but it did not detract from our stay and we will definitely return.
Just one note of caution for when you are leaving the site the side road from the Site Entrance exits onto the busy Ripon - Knaresborough Road and extra care is need due to undulations in the road particularly from the right hand side.
Autumn visit
Great welcome from a very friendly team. Clean beyond all measurable levels and the restaurant helps set a high bar for all other sites.
The area is great for walkers and runners with the Nidd valley loop to Knaresborough a great loop for a family ramble
All round great site !
A benchmark for other sites
We stayed for a week here at the end of August, we had stayed at the old site and liked it but the refurbishment of the site is fantastic. The facilities are spotless and were maintained to a very high standard. All the staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful.
The improvements at the site should be used as a benchmark for other sites looking to improve their sites.
We were on a fully serviced pitch and these were situated at the top end of the site. Lovely big pitches off set from each other which meant you weren't looking into your neighbour's van across the way.
We ate in The Wanderer one evening and the food was excellent, it was so nice to have this facility on site and not have to go off looking for a local hostelry to eat at.
We visited Knaresborough on the Monday and found quite a few shops closed but it didn't deter us from exploring the town and the walks by the river. We also had a lovely shaded walk down Nidd Gorge which is situated a stones throw away from the camp site.
The improved play area was a great place for the children to meet at the beginning or end of their days and it is a very safe space away from roads.
My only critisism of the Caravan and Motorhome club is the inability of people to drive at 5MPH, there are plenty of signs for the maximum speed limit around the site.
I will be visiting the site again and have already booked my return trip. Keep up the good work!
Lovely site
We stayed here 9th to the 13th of September. It had been some time since we stayed here. Its a lovely clean and tidy site with hard working wardens. It is well placed for visiting places like York and Harrogate. We stayed four nights and dined in the Wanderer for two of those. We loved the fact that we could take our dog in the restaurant with us (as it is against club rules to leave them in caravans unattended). The standard of food and service was outstanding. I understand the previous comment about separate areas for dog owners. But as most people take their pets with them I'm sure the manager of the Wanderer would not like to see money walking past his window to be spent at local public houses that do allow dogs in.
JUST PERFECT
great site, great wardens , a bit of noise from the farm close to the serviced pitches !!! but hey people have to work , great walk down the nidd gorge into Knaresborough. Will be back again and again , perfect for, weekends away from it all.
Won’t return
Even though the site is lovely and the wardens are doing a fantastic job sadly we will not return. The club appear to be catering more and more for members with dogs. We have nothing against dogs but they are allowed in the restaurant therefore we could not go in. The club are not considering members who are allergic to dogs or petrified of dogs. Surely to be fair to all members the restaurant should have an area that allows dogs and a dog free area!

Knaresborough caravan club site
Lovely site, great friendly helpful staff. Site is immaculate toilets and showers extremely clean. Great for dogs nice off lead walking area and welcome at the bistro inside and out. Food at the bistro was lovely we ate in and had a carry out, fast service and friendly staff more than happy to accommodate your needs. Booking advisable as it can get busy. I think food was reasonably priced. Great place to explore lovely walk along the river Nidd. Bus service outside the gate. Well worth a visit. We will definitely be back.
Knaresborough
This was our first visit to the newly refurbished Knaresborough site and we were not disappointed, it is set in wonderful countryside just outside of Knaresborough. The standard of everything is way above the Club requirements and the Wardens were very helpful and pleasant.
The site is adjacent to a bus stop and we as Motor-homers always use the buses where possible. The problem is with this site is that the bus only comes every tow hours and the last bus back from Knaresborough is 5.15pm. The bus service from Knaresborough is every 7 minutes but it is a long walk into Knaresborough from the site, it say that it is one and a quarter miles but is is something more like 2 miles to the Bus station.
We enjoyed a meal at the Wanderer Restaurant and the food and service was brilliant and very good value for money.
A great site and we will be back.
Excellent site
Just had 5 nights at this beautifully kept site, its a credit to the Wardens. Bistro was lovely had a really good meal in there at a reasonable price and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
I would recommend this site to people of all ages. The children on site were happy whizzing around the site on their bikes and not bothering anyone. Lots of responsible dog owners on site too it was lovely to see so many happy people, no one grumbling about anything at all.
The Wardens were very welcoming.
Definitely a site to put on our favourite list.
