TOO HOT...

The site and the Wardens are great. The temerature in the Bistro is totattaly unaccetable and it is uncomfortable too hot, to the point it put us off going again and rather than go the Bistro we went and ate in the town because it is that uncofatable for us. Sweating and eating is not a good combination.

Excellent

Our second stay at this site and can't fault the place. The wardens were welcoming and helpful, facilities top class and spotlessly clean and the overall site is tidy and well looked after. The Wanderer was a different experience than our last visit, with more of an atmosphere and pleasant who were very helpful and attentive. We visited the Guy Fawkes Inn, a short walk, both evenings. Didn't have anything to eat, but they have a good selection of drinks and the locals were very welcoming. A walk along the Gorge to Ripley or Harrogate is a must.

Outstanding

I enjoy all CAMC sites but I never leave a review. Having just spent 3 nights at Knaresborough with my wife, brother and sister in law, I can honestly say that it couldn't have been more perfect and I feel compelled to write about it. The difference with Knaresborough is the Wardens, the Bistro and the staff. We loved the fact that they had a Bistro on site and we enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much that we didn't eat anywhere else in the evenings. The staff in the Bistro were welcoming, polite, pleasant and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was excellent. What really made the difference though was the fact that Jan and Steve (The Wardens) really looked after us. We felt so valued as customers/members I'd locked us out of our Motorhome as we were on our way out to the Bistro on the first night there. Jan and Steve couldn't have been more helpful. Jan got me some numbers of Auto Electricians, and by the end of the meal the Motorhome was unlocked and I'd retrieved my keys. Jan and Steve took the time to make sure we were sorted and then went on to tell us about the local area and where would be good to visit. We took their advice and had a great three days. We were made to feel like family, and I cannot commend them highly enough. We will definitely be returning to Knaresborough. An outstanding site with world class wardens

Fantastic Restaurant

Our first stay at this site. We received a warm welcome and as the site wasn’t busy we were given the pick of the pitches. As we arrived quite late in the afternoon we decided to use the on site restaurant. What a gem it was with some great specials and a good standard menu too. The wine list was both good and very reasonably priced and the staff were really friendly and didn’t tell me off when I broke a wine glass. If you do stay at this site give the restaurant at least one visit during your stay - you won’t be disappointed.

Great weekend in Knaresborough

Just spent Friday and Saturday night at this site and will most definitely return. The location is excellent with a nice walks to Knaresborough. There is a bus stop almost right outside the entrance to the site which goes to Harrogate and Ripon. The site itself is very well run by friendly wardens and the facilities are spotless. We visited the Guy Fawkes Inn a couple of times and really enjoyed their ales. We didn't try any food but what was being served looked very appetising. We like the idea of the on site bistro and gave that a try too. We enjoyed take away pizzas from there which we would definitely recommend. Just one small criticism of the bistro is that it has no atmosphere and the staff could do with smiling a bit. Nevertheless, a good trip.

Be careful what you wish for!

Having visited this site in August for a week I was really impressed by the standard of the facilities on the site. We even enjoyed a meal in The Wanderer and overall the experience was a good one. So much so that we booked again for mid-term break - a fully serviced pitch for a week. Arrival and set up was painless despite the rain and wet weather. My husband had to return to work and wasn't coming back until Thursday evening, I booked a table in The Wanderer for 19.30 and sat back to look forward to our meal. We arrived at the restaurant at about 19.25 for our booking to be told our table wasn't ready and we would have to wait 20 mins, there were many things that weren't right with the experience and too many to go into here but to have to wait over an hour and a half for your food and then to find it raw was a few.The club need to look at the service they can provide in these restaurants and ensure that they are not biting off more than they can chew, we were informed by the waiter that the club are looking at opening other restaurants at other sites and I worry that the expectations won't live up to the reality. We love the convenience of Knaresborough and the site wardens are friendly and efficient however the experience of Thursday night will stay with me for a long time. Please don't lose sight of what the club stands for.

Response from the Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The Bistro team have been in touch to pass on their apologies that unfortunately on this occasion they did not meet your expectations. As explained to the customers at the bistro that evening, an agency chef was covering the kitchen due to holidays and as such diners could expect a delay, but we apologise for the inconvenience. As you can see from previous reviews, your experience is not the norm and we sincerely apologise this impeded your enjoyment of your stay. The team will learn from your feedback and will strive to avoid it happening again in the future.

Love having a bistro on site

We had a lovely big pitch, loads of room between us and our neighbours. The wardens are friendly and helpful. Facilities clean. We enjoyed a meal at the Wanderer bistro with great service, it was nice to have an onsite facility like this. We walked into Knaresborough along footpaths and the river which is a great dog walk but quite a way so if you have children it may be too far. We walked back along the main road which is a fast road and footpaths were tight in places. There is information in the info room about buses. We used a recommended taxi service from the info room to go to Harrogate and they were great, prompt and friendly.

First Visit and Lasting Impressions

We have stayed on Club sites in Yorkshire previously but this Autumn was our first visit to stay at Knaresborough. The smiling welcome at check in is standard at nearly all of the club sites wherever we have stayed and Knaresborough is no exception and with the warden making a suggestion as to the best pitch for our stay we were off to a very good start. The fully serviced pitch that we occupied for 5 nights was reasonably level and the only adjustment needed for our caravan was easily achieved by adjustment of the jockey wheel. The ethos of peace and quiet is preserved by the use of hand carts by the site staff to empty bins so no noisy machines and this was greatly appreciated although we realise that it may not be so practicable on larger sites. The sanitary conveniences are cleaned to the clubs normal high standards but would be improved by increasing the number of WC cubicles as there are not enough during peak times of the day. We enjoyed a pleasant and reasonably priced evening meal in the Wanderer restaurant with friends who live in the area. There is a local pub, the Guy Fawkes just 5 minutes walk away in the village of Scutton with a range of real ales and pub food but at higher prices than can be found in the Wanderer. The Information room is well organised and tidy and the wardens have thoughtfully provided pre- printed 'tear of' slips of paper with directions to local services and the route for a wonderful walk in the Nidd Gorge to Knaresborough. The city of York is close by (only 15 miles in the car) and easily accessed by using the Park & Ride which also has parking for Motor Homes. The weather was dreadful during our stay with much heavy rain but it did not detract from our stay and we will definitely return. Just one note of caution for when you are leaving the site the side road from the Site Entrance exits onto the busy Ripon - Knaresborough Road and extra care is need due to undulations in the road particularly from the right hand side.

Autumn visit

Great welcome from a very friendly team. Clean beyond all measurable levels and the restaurant helps set a high bar for all other sites. The area is great for walkers and runners with the Nidd valley loop to Knaresborough a great loop for a family ramble All round great site !
