Nice site - if you like trees!

Our first club camp site - new members this year. very easy to get to - although you think you may have missed the entrance at first! Very peaceful site, but there is always the background sound of trees rustling in the wind. Most pitches seem to be partly covered by trees so you can find yourself shaded from the sun all day. Not much on site to appeal to smaller children (we were looking at the site as a possible place for a 6 year old to visit at another time). Very handy for the South Lake. We would go back again.

Late Summer Break

Just returned from a 5 night stay. The site was brilliant lovely woodland pitches in little cul de sacs. Having 3 large dogs we chose a pitch at the back of the site near one of the many dog walks. A little bit of a trek to the toilets but having walked round the site numerous times I have a few favourite pitches for next visit. Also the history of the gunpowder factory added to the ambience. The wardens were great and friendly sharing gravy bones with the dogs. Very helpful when we had an issue with the car ringing local garages. We visited especially for the Tour of Britain but found more to do in the area than we had time for. Definitely another visit coming up.

Still remains an excellent site - a credit to the CC.

This site was the first CC site I visited with my van nearly six years ago. It still remains, in my opinion, one of the best sites that the CC has. The site is situated in a wooded area on what was once a Gunpowder Factory. There are still ruins which you can see where the factory buildings once stood. The excellent layout of this site is what makes it so appealing to us. This is not what many sites are like: caravans in long rows like a caravan dealership! The layout of the site means that you can be as sociable or as isolated as you like. Pitches are dotted around the woodland area. Yes, some are very dark because you are in a wood and I do agree with one of the other reviews in that some of the trees could do with having a visit from a team of tree surgeons! However, there are open pitches available, you just need to drive around until you find one. I have driven around this site three times until I've found a pitch that appeals to me. Pitches have both hook up and aerial points and there are plenty of water and waste points around the site. The CC has also invested in significant wi-fi on this site and there are masts everywhere. We always get an excellent signal. Some people have stated that it is very dark at night. Again, you have to accept that you are in a woodland. A decent torch is a must especially if you are walking around the site at night dog walking or going to the shower block. Two shower blocks on site which are kept immaculately clean by the wardens. The team of wardens here are by far the friendliest team I have encountered across any of the CC sites I have visited. They are not intrusive at all when out on patrol, always very friendly to see you on arrival and cannot do enough for you: a credit to the CC in appointing this type of team on a site. The access road is quite narrow, however there are passing points along the entrance. Access onto the site is restricted by means of an electric fob operated barrier, but it is highly unlikely that you are going to get visits from 'undesirables' due to its location. It is also an excellent site at Halloween time due to the spooky atmosphere and layout. Most people who visit at this time decorate their vans, children can go 'trick or treating' around the site and you really can enjoy the Halloween atmosphere. All in all, an excellent site. It won't suit everyone due to the woodland location, however I would give it a go and see for yourself.

Choose your pitch carefully

Although in a lovely setting amongst the trees, the site is very hilly and certain pitches can be very dark. However, as on all club sites you can choose your own pitch, so choose carefully. Good facilities that are well maintained. Restricted access, so make sure you arrive at the correct time or you will need to take care on the approach road. Good access to Kendal and all of the lakes, and also the motorway.

Wonderful woodland

Although the weather could have been better, the site really delivered. Lovely woodland setting with spacious pitches and near to a selection of great walks and cycle rides. The toilet blocks were modern and clean. The staff were amazing - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Friday night is fish and chip night - we had a great meal from the van on our day of arrival. All in all a great week spent in a great location.

Comfy pair of slippers!

Another stay at one of our favourite sites. Helpful staff, clean facilities and the children love staying here. The only point I would say is that the playground needs updating especially for younger children. Chester Fairoaks style would help!?  Will return soon.  Thank you

Helpful wardens

Stayed there for two nights. Nice site but a bit remote if you don't want to take your van. Staff very helpful and good banter with them. Quite dark and one problem was whe the rain had stopped it took 30 min before it stopped on the van . Trees are lovely but do need cutting back.

Walk in the Black Forest.

This is a peaceful and well run sites. The staff are the most helpful and friendly you can get, nothing is a problem and the facilities are spotless. Unfortunately over the years we have visited the trees have grown to such an extent that most pitches are gloomy in the extreme. Come-on C.C get some serious thinning and reduction done. I wont be returning until some significant clearing has been performed.Shame its a great location and basically a super layout.

Deep in the woods

You will not believe you are on a site with 140 pitches. Little groups of pitches are mixed in amongst the trees. Many pitches are quite shaded but not really a problem. I think if we visit again (pretty likely) we might try to wander around and check out the available pitches to see if a sunnier one was free. Very good facilities and lovely wardens. Not sure the Strickland Arms is up to scratch on the food department though. We drove the four mile or so into Kendal to Romneys. This was fantastic for food and beer for the whole family (well the food bit!). Brilliant outdoor play area for our 6 and 9 year old too. Make sure you stop off at the nearby Farm Shop. Best day trip was to Fell Foot (went three times) bit like going to the beach but without the sand.

Kendal Sunshine

Not the normal CC site,no straight lines or perfect size pitches, lots of pitches under tree cover so can feel dark, toilet block good but no music ??. Tv reception good wifi poor, no way you can watch live football on iPad. Very nice pub 15 minutes walk away (Strickland Arms)and bus stop 25 minutes walk away for bus into Kendal then onto Windermere, also good golf courses close by.  We had fantastic weather on our visit at this site, but too much trees and woodland for us.
