Peace and Tranquillity

This is one of the most peaceful and well run sites. The staff are the most helpful and friendly you can get, nothing is a problem and the facilities are spotless. Also had an issue with my battery charger in our van and the wardens tried to help but when they could not fix it they put us on to Andy at Kendal Camping Ltd who is a gent of a guy. He fixed the issue in no time and was very reasonable on the price. Would certainly use again if I needed anything.

Great site

A lovely site close to the motorway although you wouldn't notice. There are several walks directly off the site so it is great for dog walkers. The facilities are good and clean, service points are plentiful and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is also game fishing available on the site. A very enjoyable stay.

Not regimental.

Pitches well set out, plenty to choose from, no need to park under trees, as there are plenty in treeless clearings. Toilet blocks spotless. Staff exceptional, friendly, helpful,  nothing too much trouble. No Over The Top Rules. One of the best sites we have been on, in one of best areas of the UK.

Unique woodland site with pitches in glades

This is a lovely site based around the ruins of the Sedgwick Gunpowder works. The works remains themselves are of interest to anyone interested in industrial history. Walks are available by the river and in the woods behind the site. The pitches are set in groups in woodland glades, some more open and some shaded. It is wise to consider this when pitching. Most complaints I've heard are from people who don't like the shadier spots. It isn't an ideal kids' site, though there is a play area. There isn't much else for kids to do and the potentially hazardous river is nearby. The only reason I haven't given facilities five stars is because the wash up water isn't hot enough for effective washing up.

Wonderful!!

I totally disagree with the last review. We LOVE this site! It is like holidaying in the middle of a forest, next to a river! Beautiful! Yes, it did rain some of the time while we were there but it didn't dampen our spirits as the surroundings are so pretty. It is a very large site but you wouldn't really know it as most of the pitches are in little bays of 5 or 6 caravans (sometimes only 1 or 2) & I love the privacy & sense of solitude this gives. Sizergh Castle nearby and the Farm Shop are both great for an afternoon out, followed by a lovely meal or quiet drink at the Strickland Arms (totally dog friendly). The wardens are friendly, the facilities spotless - I can't fault this site. But don't come if you don't like shady glades, tree lined paths & woodland walks!!

Too many trees

Having read the earlier reports, perhaps it is me, but, I found this site to be overbearing in terms of the continuous tree canopy, resulting in a damp and dreary atmosphere on the pitch. Booked for a 3 night stay, but only stayed one night, as this was not a site we liked. The facilities were spotless and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Someone described the site as a Marmite site, you either love it, or hate it and sadly, we were the later.

Good Stop Over

We stopped here on our way to Scotland as close to M6 The site was clean quite and very well maintained it also had some historical interest. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would fully recommend this site for stop over or a holiday as there is lots to do in the area and good places to eat

9 night holiday

Pleasant spot and good location for exploring the south lakes. Lovely river banks and rocks to paddle from. The site does not boast the biggest children's play area, but our two still made new friends whilst on site. Toilets and showers spotless and wardens very friendly. Our pitch was the one on the main photo (129) which was very large but at times it felt like we were on a main through fair for all campers on route to the site shop. However, if we had pitched the other way round, we could have avoided this. The site is very much within the trees, so pick your pitch with care if you do want some sunshine during the day - many spots seemed to be in permanent shade. Lots of wildlife on site, we even had a friendly hedgehog visit us in our awning each evening!

Just outstanding

Conveniently located near (but not too near) the M6 this is a wonderful site staffed by a great team. Although quite large the site is broken up by well managed woodland with some fantastic walks nearby. Cannot rate this highly enough.
