Fantastic Site

Just returned from a weeks holiday staying at this fantastic site. All wardens were exceptional in every way and the facilities were spotless. The site is well positioned and pitch clusters in the woodland are well placed and very peaceful. The fish and chip van on a Friday is definitely a recommendation from us - fantastic!

Beautiful site

We loved this site! The welcome from the staff was brilliant, I felt as if they were waiting for us and we're aware of all our needs. Very enthusiast and friendly. We have a twin axle caravan and a perfect spot had been chosen for us, close to showers and water point. So peaceful and marvellous dog walks through the wooded areas. We will def return in spring, I am already looking forward to it.

One of the best CC sites in UK

This is a large site, but the caravans are are in separate secluded areas. Some areas will accommodate more vans than others, but at no time do you get the impression of a large impersonal site. This rural site is located around an ancient gunpowder works which is full of history and is a delight to experience. (history and maps at reception) Staff are always on hand and the site/toilets etc are kept spotless. Being in a wooded area, obviously the site can be in shade most of the time, but there are always opportunities to catch the sun on most pitches at sometime of the day. The site borders the River, so keep watch over how far children can roam unattended if they are young. Easy access to Kendal and National Trust properties such as Sizergh Castle, Beatrix Potter's house (Hilltop) and also Lake Windermere. Walkable to one of the best Farm shops in the Lakes

Lovely but restricted pitch choice

We had no idea the site was so large. On arrival the wardens suggested a pitch down on the lower road which was fairly level, no trees overhead and quite close to the toilet block. We were very thankful we went straight there and did not take the caravan on a tour round as we normally do when choosing a pitch at other sites. The site is terraced of sorts with quite a few cul de sacs, but some we thought too tight to turn around in if you changed your mind. Many looked quite uneven and some had separate parking plots. I would not want to use a serviced pitch as you were quite high up, away from the toilet blocks. The facilities were excellent as usual. I did leave a comment about what I thought was the one hair drying area in the lower block, only to by chance coming across a second hair dryer in one of the privacy cubicles. Perhaps a sign on the door to tell people it is there? Lovely, friendly wardens. Good location for a number of reasons. Within walking distance of Sizergh Castle and the excellent pub next to it.

New to us site

We haven't tried the Kendal site before and were pleasantly surprised on arrival, pitching up in a quiet spot amongst the trees was a good experience. Other vans were in a view but we had no immediate neighbours. The river Kent, which flows alongside the site, is impressive, worth taking rods if you fish and the walks were lovely. Next day we headed for Low Sizergh Barn Farm Shop in pouring rain, it was worth the twenty minute walk, we had a good lunch and bought some food in the farm shop, can't resist hunting out some local cheeses! Another ten minutes on and we'd have reached NT Sizergh castle, but we plodded our rainy way back to the van with our purchases. The CC Kendal site is well worth a visit.
