Really Lovely Site

My wife & I celebrated our 30th Anniversary in October 2016 and we spent 5 nights at this really lovely site. We requested to be close to one of the two Toilet Blocks because of my wife's limited mobility and the staff accommodated us. The scenery around the site is really nice, we had a little stream behind our pitch. Highly recommended.

Club member or cash cow?

You really can't fault the site itself, it's in a lovely spot and idyllic. We have been here several times before and we like it. However... I paid an extra fee for a fully serviced pitch. Unfortunately the position of the caravan in relation to the fresh water tap was miles away and well beyond the reach of our pipes (which were reasonably long) Similarly for the waste water pipes. When I raised this with the reception there was no offer to refund, just a suggestion I could relocate to another pitch. When I pointed out that was not very user friendly for us having just manoeuvred and levelled the van, and having searched around for large rocks to put under the steadies at the rear where the ground slopes away sharply, they then said they could sell me longer pipes to overcome what they admitted were badly placed service points.  So having paid extra for facilities that were unusable, their solution appears to be to take more money still off me. TV reception is advertised as poor and that proved to be the case but there is a TV socket on the electric post. I asked if we could hire a cable to connect it to the TV (which we have done before) but they no longer do that. They offered to sell me one for £15. We got one in Kendal for 99p. Having only this month paid my annual subscription for the first time in 10 years I wondered why I bothered as it feels like I am not so much a member as a sponge from which cash can be squeezed out.  Such a shame that the attitude of the club has tainted such a fabulous site.

That good - we're going again next week!

First visit to a caravan club site and more than pleasantly surprised!  In fact it was that good we've booked to go again next week.  Immaculate facilities, friendly and helpful staff, good location, lots of local walks, close enough to the lakes but far enough away too!  Great effort made for halloween - balloons supplied for those who wished to take part in the trick or treat to display on their vans, lots were decorated. Just wish people would take notice of the notices - they say don't arrive before 1pm for a reason - the lane is NOT wide enough for two caravans meeting head to head.

A lovely site

Great welcome from the wardens. Best to arrive after 1pm as very narrow drive up to the campsite. If you met another caravan someone would have to reverse! The best information room I have ever seen. Lovely pitches. Drinking water, waste water and chemical disposal conveniently placed so no-one has to walk too far. Shower facilities etc always very clean. Fish and chip van Friday night-very nice. The best and longest dog walk on any site we have ever been to, with a tea room half way round. Kendal is just over a 1 hour walk along the river-lots of great shops.

Tranquil

Friendly greeting and cream tea available on arrival. The site has a wealth of small areas for just a few vans and is set amongst the woodland area. Pleasant walks nearby and safe for children - thanks to the club's 5 mph policy. Would certainly return.

What a wonderful site

This is a real find. Peaceful woodland camping with access to immaculate facilities. The friendly wardens provide plenty of information about the many attractions nearby, including a choice of walks from the site. All this with a first class fish and chip van on Friday evening. Take your time choosing a pitch because there are so many excellent ones. Congratulations to the wardens and we will certainly be back.

A lovely relaxing break

We had a lovely relaxing break. I am disabled and found the facilities easy to use and spotless. We will be visiting again in the near future.

Our first trip!

We have only just bought our caravan and didn't want to travel much more than one hour away first visit. We couldn't have picked a better place. The wardens were so friendly & helpful. The site is peaceful, yet superbly placed for trips to Windermere, Kirkby Lonsdale, Arnside etc. The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean. We only spent four nights due to other commitments but I was sad to leave. We will definitely visit again next year, and for a lot longer hopefully. Loved looking at the gunpowder buildings/ruins. Loved the walk over the bridge by the river too. So much more to see and do on our next visit.

Great for walking

We like to stay at this site due to all the various walks you can do. The site is always well kept and the wardens are always very helpful . The only downside would be the attitude of some of the drivers think that the sites are race tracks and have no understanding of what 5 MPH means on signs on site and explained by the wardens I wonder if they would listen if it was their child or relative was injured .

Excellent

This is our third visit, as usual, everything was spot on. We look forward to our next visit. We also need to remember that you cannot arrive on site before one o'clock!
