Lovely site - tricky access for larger caravans

Kendal is a lovely peaceful site in a woodland area very close to the main town. Small secluded areas create a peaceful setting and create a true sense of being in the middle of the countryside. Facilities were good, though the toilets are a bit of a hilly walk from some pitches so be sure to mention when booking of you have any mobility issues. Our main problem was the tight access to the site, and then to the pitches. The main access road is single track with passing places for the last half mile or so, however the passing places are quite tight and some distance apart. One on the site, the roads are quite hilly and very narrow in places with steep verges and embankments in some places. We have a twin axle, 8 foot wide caravan and found access to be too restricted in some places, though we made it with extreme caution. We were lucky on delarture that the pitch opposite us was empty (motorhome left for the day) so we able to use that to manouvre onto the road - had the pitch been occupied it would have been almost impossible to get out due to steepness of the road and sharp turn required to get onto the exit route. We'd recommend the site to anyone looking for a peaceful location - it's lovely, however we probably won't return with our current caravan which is simply too large for the site. We'd recommend that the Club mention the restricted access on the main site webpage, perhaps mentioning that some visitors might find the narrow roads difficult to negotiate with twin axle or extra wide caravans.

Fab site, look forward to the next visit

Fabulous location if you want to get away from it all, little glades that only take a few caravans in each, so you feel really off the beaten track. Very dark if popping off to use the facilities late at night, take a torch! Warden helpful on arrival, but it's a one way system and hard to drive round to select a pitch, we had to keep exiting under the barrier and ask her to open again, at other CC sites of yours, normally we are lent a temporary barrier key, but for some reason not here, lots of folks experienced the same issues while we were there. Lots of Service areas, almost hidden behind little stone built areas, really in keeping with the woods. Easy to access off the M6, we did get stuck exiting at 10.30am due to parked vans on the lane, as its very narrow. 20 min walk uphill to a good pub with nice food, don't walk back in dark, as no footpath. This site and many of the club sites are so much more expensive than other sites we use, some of which are adult only with amazing facilities and even a swimming pool, and free excellent WiFi, and no annual fee. Wonder why they are so much more expensive?? Only one thing marred our stay here, one day as we were going out crawling down the very narrow exit road, as we approached the exit barrier a warden we hadn't seen before leapt out and screamed through our window 'slow down, it's 5MPH' I can assure you we were driving at a snails pace.

Great family weekend

Cannot believe we have never been here before! Great place for exploring with the children. Lots of Walks through the woods along the river, even spotted the local dears! Fabulous safe mainly off road bike ride all the way to the sea at Grange. Loved the space of this site where you feel like your alone in the woods (rather than open space with van after van). Will definitely return, so easy off the motorway that I might even drive next time!

Stopover, once and once only.

The toilet block was new, best yet. The staff were very helpful. Access was narrow but arriving late afternoon and leaving early meant we had no problems. The site is however not pretty on the eye. It is totally overgrown and beyond the capabilities of a few wardens to clear or maintain. It looked more like a ‘travellers camp’ than a CAMC site. I would not have stayed any longer than one night and won’t be returning. The whole place felt too claustrophobic.

Good quiet site with an unusual layout

One of my favourite sites. It has character and due to its layout feels smaller than it actually is. It has a good farm shop nearby, a pub and a NT property with walks and a good cafe, all within 2 miles. You can walk across a suspended footbridge across a river onto a grass field where you can relax.it is also the start of a footpath. You might have to clean the sap from your car and van when you get home !

First visit

Our first visit here, the first stop on our journey to Scotland. Amazing site with all the history of the gunpowder factory, borrow the booklet from reception, fascinating. We were on a service pitch at top of site, lots of little areas dotted around this wooded hill site, most with open spaces. Very friendly helpful wardens, excellent cream tea on sale at reception, 8 scones, 2 pots jam and 2 pots cream £4, bargain. Sites as usual clean tidy and well kept, must say not a lover of too many trees, but this was lovely. Lots of wild life around, we had a visit from a Jay and a squirrel to our bird feeder. The Farm Shop just up the lane near entrance is very good. Kendal a very nice town with lots of history and good shops.

Underneath the foliage canopy

First time here. Well spread out site re small clusters of pitches with varying degrees of sky / foliage depending on choice. Would have liked to have stayed longer than our one night. Helpful site staff re our electrics. Small streams, paths and rivers combine with old ruins. Great for M6 break.

Peaceful in a lovely woodland

Think this will turn out to be one of our favourite sites. Great, friendly staff, picturesque woodland, very peaceful and perfectly placed to access the Lakes. Good sized pitches, well maintained grounds. Spotlessly clean facilities too. Just wish it was open all year round, but after speaking to one of the wardens, understand the closed period is for the National Trust to get in and do necessary work.

Great over night stay

We used the site for and overnight stop over on our way south. It’s such a peaceful site with lots of local walks. Friendly welcome and the facilities were spot less. Well done to the staff.

Offers more than you expect

This is our 3rd stay. Being honest this site offers far more than you expect, if you like to explore. With the river Kent running by, you can walk into Kendal along its banks. The local farm shop has the most amazing raw milk. The site is kept extremely well, and the team are all happy to meet you. It is set on lots of different levels, with lots of hide always. Located just of the M6, it’s excellent for overnight stops as well as longer lengths.
