Kendal Club Campsite

We hadn't appreciated how pretty this site would be. Located in the grounds of an old gunpowder mill, the pitches are scattered in small glade-like areas surrounded by woodland full of bluebells and wild garlic. Bordered by the Kent River, paths lead all the way into nearby Kendal. The town itself is also easily reached by bike along roads (safely on the pavement where its busy).
Nearby Sizegh Castle and Low Barn Farm shop are walkable distances away. The Lakes National Park is on the doorstep and makes for a great day trip.
Staff at the site are friendly and helpful and the wash rooms were spotlessly clean.
Mixed weather in Kendal
Just returned from visiting this wonderful site & area. We've not been to 'The Lakes' for many years and just wished we could have stayed a while longer. Yes, the access lane is narrow in places, but there are plenty of passing places and if travelling at walking place, is not an issue.
Ours is a fairly large unit ( caravan) and some of the roadways within the site itself are narrow and some corners a bit on the tight side. I would say, of all the club sites we've visited, these are the tightest. (and I'm an ex HGV driver)
Early May meant that the trees were not fully leaved, so the site was bright and pleasant for our stay. We like the woodland, especially the dawn chorus ( before dawn!!)
Due to COVID we didn't use the facilities, we've now got used to using the onboard ones and maybe won't ever go back - who knows?
The proximity to the M6 is excellent for access and also makes it it a handy stopover, although 1 night would be such a waste!
Highly recommended, the river runs next to the site which is delightful. After a long walk, we had a picnic on the banks and watched people swimming in it. We can't wait to return asap.
Inconsiderate members
Recently stayed at this site which was up to the usual standards which was more than could be said for some members present.
1. Someone wanted to get to their pitch but instead of walking and extra 10 yards they walked over someone else’s pitch and passed between the parked car and caravan pushing their bike.
2. Lazy motorhomer sprawled in his motorhome whilst his grey waste emptied all over the pitch. Probably too bone idle to drive to the motorhome waste point.
There is always a small minority who go out of their way to spoil a good site.

Great Location
What a lovely site with friendly and efficient wardens who worked well together as a great team and although I think that they are all fairly new to this particular site they were all excellent and well organised like they had been together for years
This is an excellent site and all though it’s quite a big site you can’t really tell because of the groups of glades which separate all the areas of the site and vans are all located in little groups - it was our first time, really don’t know why we have not been before but we will definitely return as the site itself and the walks by the river were so pretty with some great dog walking in all directions w
Kendal is only a few minutes away by car and is worth a visit for the shops and pubs etc
Can’t comment about the toilet blocks as we used the shower etc in the van due to the pandemic
Mobile Phone signal was good (EE) and we got a good satellite signal (pitch 96)
Lovely, peaceful woodland site
A lovely site just outside Kendal. Nice clean facilities and friendly staff.
Satellite TV coverage is non-existent and WiFi service is very poor and needs improvement.
Woodland site
This is a beautiful site, set in woodland. Although quite a large site it doesn’t feel like it as the pitches are set out in small areas. We stayed in April 2021, and the toilet facilities were open and very clean, operating a band system for entry. Although in woodland our pitch had a good amount of sunshine which was lovely and sheltered. There is an excellent farm shop just up the road at Sizergh, about a mile to walk, and we made daily visits for ice cream, hot sausage rolls and other delicious treats. If you go at 3:30 you can see the cows being milked. There is also a vending machine for raw milk. We went on some lovely walks, including along the river towards Kendal, and passed a swan sitting on its nest, just off the path.
Nice site
Situated just south of Kendal this is excellent for visiting Holker Hall, Sizergh castle, Holehird and Levens Hall. The site is in a wood and above the River Kent. Excellent walks on either side of the river. We got a level pitch for the motorhome on flat ground near the river. The toilets were closed. Mobile phone signal was good. Will visit again next year...

Fabulous!
I’m a single caravanner with my elderly dog. I just love this site. Safe and friendly which is why I’ll keep coming back. Set in amongst a beautiful woodland alongside the meandering river Kent, there are multiple glades for people to choose their own spot. There is a one way system in place and it works perfectly well. However, I did see two camper vans turn around pointing in the opposite direction to the one way but this was only so they could sort their grey waste and fresh water filling out. Maybe they should bring longer hoses in the future?. One of the camper vans was approached rather quickly by one of the wardens who pointed out the one way system to them and asked them to turn around, again this was in a polite but assertive manner. He was only doing his job and he did it well. The only one thing is the access so please bear in mind the departure arrival times. These have been put in place for good reason. It’s a single track access road which is about half a mile long with very few passing places especially for bigger outfits. On my last visit I saw at least three outfits leaving late afternoon and also some outfits arriving by eleven. Not good people and it’s not the sites fault as they do everything they can to keep people to the allotted arrival and departure times. Other than the access pitch up and enjoy enjoy enjoy!! Stay safe everyone.
Love it!
Absolutely love this site for so many reasons. The setting is picture perfect, the history behind it is fascinating, there are so many walks from the site so no need to use the car, there is a beautiful Farm shop within walking distance, there are 2 interesting Houses to walk to and visit and a local pub when it re-opens, and, as always, the site is immaculate and so well maintained even with Covid restrictions. It is just a pity that there are some who either ignore the rules or who don't even read them - it must drive the site staff mad.
Will be booking again this year if there is space. Sadly the wild garlic that "scents" the air will have finished but there are so many different birds to watch and listen to plus deer and other wild life. Fabulous.

What a wonderful Weekend Away
This was our first visit to the Kendal site and I cannot give it enough praise. The location is wonderful, nestled in the woods which gives it a wonder atmosphere. Very relaxing and a great location to unwind and recharge your batteries. We only went out walking locally but the river and ruins are great if you are a photographer plus plenty of wild life with birds and squirrels to keep your attention. I would recommend this site to everyone wanting something a bit different from a open flat camp site.
