Lots of birds singing

We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at this site. Very friendly wardens who did there best to help you out As others have said the ground is particularly hard on this site so harder to get your pegs in, thankfully we didn’t have any high winds Loved the little cluster of caravans as all hidden amongst the trees and wild flowers. The walks along the river with the smell of wild garlic was amazing with a hidden waterfall! We saw a Herron on the river fishing, which was amazing. The road too and from the site is scary with the pot holes especially when towing a large caravan, very slow and steady gets you through it Some amazing ruins of past buildings on site Road works at night you could hear slightly during the night if you woke up Local farm shop is a must a great little cafe

Damn Those Pesky Crows

We absolutely loved our stay at this site apart from a couple of issues, which are probably down to bad luck! 1. Overnight roadworks on the A591 dual carriageway which kept me awake most nights to the point that I'm now sat at work exhausted (that's not the club's fault, but might be worth checking the Cumbria Council website for any roadworks nearby) 2. Crows. A sheer abundance of them. No doubt partly down to the neighbouring pitch's desire to leave bird feeders outside (why do people do that? The young birds need to learn to scavenge!). The crows were appearing in the early hours, making a right old racket and attacking car wiper blades when there was no food to be found. I suppose if you've been on the gin all night it probably won't wake you, but it work me. I also had to buy a pair of new wiper blades after the crows ripped them off. Sigh. Other than those two issues, it's a fantastic site, but we probably won't be back.

What a lovely site!

This site has to be one of our favourites. Similar to Coniston Coppice which we love. The setting is wonderful, walks are a delight. Loved the farm shop and watched the cows being milked. The smell is quite hummmm, might not be to anyone's taste. One downside for us was the ground on our pitch was so hard, our diamond hard pegs would hardly go in. We had hard pitches in the past but this one must have been the worst. We purchased a heavy robust mallet in Kendal and it did a better job. Not sure what people use in cases like these. The single track road is a bit of a challenge but if you don't arrive before time and clash with the departures, it's not a problem. The way out is very tight and very close to the river. Let's say we wouldn't do it at night with a big moho. We hired a car from Enterprise for a day to tour all the lakes. Had to get a taxi to Kendal to collect it as they don't deliver to the site or collect at the moment due to Covid. A hugely enjoyable stay, great wardens too, highly recommended

A surprisingly good stopover

We booked this as a one night stopover on the way to Scotland. Due to the layout it felt like a very small site with lots of small clusters of pitches. It was extremely convenient for the M6 being literally just a few minutes off it but you wouldn't know that once you were on site. The walk along the riverside was extremely attractive with a number of small waterfalls. We will be returning for a longer stay when we can.

Woodland setting

Lots of small groups of pitches hidden in the woods, very pretty setting with lots of Bluebells and wild Garlic while we where there. Need chocks as some pitches on a bit of a slope. Possible to walk into Kendal along the river bank, nice walk also to farm shop and then on to Sizergh Castle. Wardens very pleasant and cheerful and facilities very clean.

Wow!- what a fantastic woodland setting

We have recently returned from this fantastic site and already can’t wait to return- it’s a long time since we were here last and had forgotten what a fabulous setting this is ! The woodland was at its best with an abundance of bird life and wild flowers in full bloom- the scent of the wild garlic was amazing- I can imagine this site is spectacular at all times of the year, but especially now in late spring. We couldn’t fault anything, I’ve read other people’s reviews, yes the access is down a narrow lane, not unusual, there are ample passing places, the odd pot hole, none of this directly related to the site, that’s more of an issue for the national trust to address? Every member of the wardening team were outstanding- very pleasant and helpful, always cheerful, we felt very welcomed from the start right throughout our weeks visit- a lesson for some sites surely here ? The layout of this site is perfect, shaded or sunny spots, take your pick, we particularly appreciated the thoughtful idea of placing a cone out for our longer outfit, the pitch was perfect, a really helpful touch. Anyone thinking of visiting the Lake District - check this site out you will not be disappointed- very easy to find from junction 36 of the M6, with the ability to travel from the sites to the busier areas then retreat back to tranquillity!

What a disappointment

The approach road if you can call it a road is abysmal full of very deep potholes and very narrow and dangerous as there is no barrier between the track and the fast-following river! if you like the overwhelming smell of garlic from the wild garlic plants that are everywhere then you might be happy, some of the pitches are extremely small and very untidy. The was emptying facility I used was out in the open and covered with leaves and flotsam from the surrounding trees. We had booked for two nights but only stayed one that was enough, so we left never to return.

My favourite site

Well what can I say! I absolutely love this site! Peaceful, quiet and safe. Lots of glades with maximum probably around five/six pitches although I normally stick to one or two pitches. The staff are always polite and chatty. It was so good to get back to it. Been twice already this year and booked for June, august and September. All hard standing pitches although I have an awning I’ve never used it as I’m a solo traveller who has multiple health conditions. I’m sure however if I asked one of the wardens they would help me erect it and take it down as it’s only a small two berth van with a 3/4 awning. Lots of walks I’m told from the site. Nice little farm shop nearby but quite expensive. Stunning River Kent runs alongside the site but be careful after rain as it swells and runs very rapidly so don’t let your dog off for a swim as the current is rather fast after rain. Beautiful during the drier weather. All dogs must be kept on a lead while on site though. Definitely would recommend.

Wonderful site

Absolutely wonderful site, set in National Trust woodlands with the ruins of an old gunpowder factory on site. We loved the seclusion of the small groups of pitches nestled between the trees away from other groups. Surrounded by bird song. It did not feel like we were on a large caravan site. Location perfect, right by the beautiful River Kent with a beautiful wooded circular walk round it, with lots of bird life. This is the nicest site we have ever stayed on. We were sorry we had booked only one night as we were travelling north so had only an afternoon to enjoy the lovely area and couldn't do any more. There is plenty to do from the site without exploring the rest of the Lakes. Wonderfully friendly helpful staff on reception. They could not have been nicer or more informative.

Surprisingly beautiful

We hadn't appreciated how pretty this site would be. Located in the grounds of an old gunpowder mill, the pitches are scattered in small glade-like areas surrounded by woodland full of bluebells and wild garlic. Bordered by the Kent River, paths lead all the way into nearby Kendal. The town itself is also easily reached by bike along roads (safely on the pavement where its busy). Nearby Sizegh Castle and Low Barn Farm shop are walkable distances away. The Lakes National Park is on the doorstep and makes for a great day trip. Staff at the site are friendly and helpful and the wash rooms were spotlessly clean.
