New favourite Lake District site

After a 10 year gap we decided to revisit the Kendal site. We've been going to Coniston the last few years but couldn't get in this summer. Absolutely loved this site. Best welcome we've ever had at any of the club sites. With two older boys there was the freedom for them to play by the river, in the woods and go biking. Excellent shaded pitch which was great first half of the week when it was very hot but no so great when it rained in the second half. Had some noise from young people having late night parties across the river on the hot weekend. Swimming, alcohol and drugs not a great combination but we were grateful they all went home safely. Despite that we'll definitely be back.

Probably the best site !

We visit the site regularly as only a few hours drive. Fantastic walks with inviting woodland setting keeps us returning with our dogs. This is one of our favourite sites. Wonderful layout with a sense of space and freedom. Over the last year, no fault of the wardens or Club, we have noticed more dogs running around off leads. Dog mess NOT PICKED UP by owners, dogs out of control and barking at what or who ever passes by. Owners of the dogs seem oblivious and do nothing. We have 2 dogs that travel with us, so its no get at the dog owners. Kids play in the woods in and around the site, so the constant dog mess is not only dangerous to these children but is now spoiling the walks, dodging the mess, that we often pick up and correctly dispose of. Inconsiderate members/people are starting to ruin the experience. Also many blue NON awning pitches are on the whole pitched up with awnings out, taking up their neighbours pitch space. Why? What is the point of having these blue peg pitches if no one follows rules & wardens fail to even approach these people to remove awnings from other neighbouring pitches. We saw an older couple being very nervous about someone who was in a blue pitch next to them. They had to squeeze their unit in and park car across their pitch to accommodate an awning that shouldn't be there. The Club needs to mae members aware PLEASE.

Tranquil woodland haven

Stayed 3 nights here and all aspects met club standards. Good sized pitch for our 6.35m van with room for canopy and more. Warm welcome from staff who met new arrivals and got everyone processed efficiently and timeously. Relaxed attitude to choosing your pitch with the advice to drive round as many times as you’d like before making final choice. Weather on the whole good - trees provided natural shelter from the light rain showers. Plenty of opportunities for us to explore the area on foot and/or bike. Lovely riverside and Forest walk. walkAn ideal spot to break your journey if travelling north/south or vice versa. Low rating for good for families as this didn’t apply to us but am sure the families we saw there were enjoying themselves.

Excellent site staff and facilities.

This site is in a beautiful setting by the side of a lovely river with a mixture of pitches which can be in either sunny spots shade or dappled shade. Upon arrival the friendly staff guide you into a well managed holding area for reception and booking in and you are given a selection of pitches to choose from. Everything is well maintained and clean and in our 10 day stay every member of staff we encountered were friendly knowledgeable about the local area and happy to help us with any of our questions. There is an excellent farm shop a 10 minute walk from the site and plenty to do within walking distance in the area too or jump on a bus get a taxi or just drive into kendal which is 5 miles away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this site and highly recommend it 10 out of 10.

Wooded, peaceful campsite

This is a lovely campsite very wooded and shady, you can walk to local farm shop that also has a cafe. Also a walk along the river which is beautiful with waterfalls and very unspoiled. Some form of transport would be useful if staying several days. However the approach road is particularly narrow and severely potholed ( I don’t know why this is not rectified) . Also it can be difficult to find a free pitch as the site is divided up into little cul de sacs which makes it tricky to locate a pitch.

Short break.

This CAMC site maintains the high standard you'd expect. Access is clearly described but is down quite a long single file drive. Although it's quite a big site it's separated into small groups of pitches so feels secluded. The walk across fields to Sizergh Castle is well marked and passes a high quality farm shop. The walk along the river into Kendal is longer but very pleasant. There's a site TV aerial feed, but it's not maintained so not all pitches actually work. ( Our own aerial picked up a signal.)

Wonderful! Apart from the road up to the site.

We are regulars at the Kendal site and have stayed on many of the pitches over the last few years. As with all CMHC sites, it is well-kept and facilities are spotlessly clean. It's in a beautiful wooded location, shaded in many parts however this has never been an issue for us as the sun doesn't shine a lot in the Lake District anyway! The walks from the site are stunning if you like woodland and wildlife. There is also a river adjacent to the site which provides stunning views and adds peace and tranquility. The walk to the farm shop is lovely and also nearby is the Strickland Arms which has a nice beer garden and does decent food. This time we visited Leighton Moss RSBP which was a lovely walk, and also the Foulshaw Moss Nature reserve, both worth visiting if you enjoy birds and wildlife. Arnside and Silverdale are worth a visit (the chippy in Arnside takes some beating) and it's not far to drive up to Windermere if you want to battle with the tourists. The only issue I would like to raise is not the fault of the site at all, but I feel I should warn people about the terrible condition of the road leading to the caravan site. There are some serious potholes which could really damage your caravan - please beware! I wonder if the CMHC could contact the council or whoever owns the road to get it repaired?

Unpredictable weather

We've visited at least a dozen times and will probably visit even more it's a fantastic site and location we really love it, our last visit was slightly different though, we found a perfect pitch for our needs (107) superb spot, only problem was we arrived Thursday evening for a short stay of 3 nights and unfortunately for us and everyone else we had torrential rain for around 36 hours, not the best but you can't control the weather, unfortunately when our neighbours left on Friday they reported discovering a large hole in the ground beside the pitch, the wardens arrived and quite rightly were very concerned, and as I was barbecuing our dinner we was politely asked to vacate the area and move to another pitch, because potentially it could have resulted in more subsiding or even a sink hole, we understand completely that this was done for our safety and we appreciate that totally, but as all caravaners know you can't move with things inside rattling around, so we had to pack everything away inside and out, including chairs, pegs out porch down, electrics, water, waste water, hitch up and set up all over again, and on our main full day wasn't ideal and put a bit of a dampener on our weekend (parden the pun) but the wardens were great coned off another ideal pitch for us so not all bad, but something we could have done without having to do all over again but was obviously unavoidable due to the weather conditions, great staff and wardens will definitely be back 🙂👍

Another great stay

Another great stay on my favourite site. Stayed for seven nights. Solo traveller with my dog. I unfortunately had a leak on my kitchen tap (my van is 21 years old). I rang and left a message with reception and within minutes one of the lovely wardens arrived to see if he could help. Unfortunately it was beyond his remit but he did bring a small card with him with the details of a mobile caravan repair person I could ring. I did ring that same day and the repair man came out the following morning. He had it fixed with the new part in no time and only charged me for the cost of the part without putting any markup on it. I did however pay him his £45 call out fee which included the hours work. So in total a cost of £54.50 which was a fab price as it was a life saver to my van keep being flooded. Some people complain about the approach road to the site. Yes it is narrow and yes it ones have quite a few big potholes which do need filling in. If people stick to their departure times in the morning and arrival times in the afternoon then there shouldn’t be a problem meeting oncoming other outfits. Enjoy your stay at the site it’s my go to happy place.

My favourite site over many years

Lovely site in woodland glades, with the added bonus of the historic industrial remains of Sedgewick gunpowder works, and a choice of lovely woodland and riverside walks. An ideal touring centre from which you can head in all four directions. The wardens are friendly and helpful and coping well with the additional, (covid related), workload which means that the site is almost continuously full, plus the extra cleaning, etc demands. Choosing to use the, (covid limited), facilities at 7.00am worked well for us for the first six days of our stay but was problematic for the last two; no logical reason, just the personal preferences of those staying. The site can be difficult to navigate to choose a pitch, and manouvering skills can be needed for some pitches. Alternatively, be a coward like me and fit a mover to the van, - stress gone! A lot of pitches, but not all, are reasonably level, so be prepared with appropriate levelling equipment. One complaint. PLEASE do something about the lane in. The potholes are reaching DANGEROUS. The patches which had been put on the earlier patches have given up. I don't know if it is a public lane or belongs to the site, but whichever, action is needed.
