We first visited this site last year and could not wait to return. The wardens were as friendly and helpful as usual. Both the site and toilet facilities are kept clean and tidy. The site location is really good, just a few miles to Kendal, and a little further to lake Windermere. There are several circular walks from the site. You can buy the route maps from the site shop. The site is set adjacent to the river and there are lots of trees (coppices) and rocky outcrops. Children would love it, but the river is fast flowing and care should therefore be taken. There is a narrow suspension bridge for walkers to cross the river. Access to site is down a narrow lane with passing places. I would recommend a visit to this site.
Peace and quiet
I recently spent 6 days at this site, my favourite in the Club's portfolio over many years.
The facilities are excellent, and the surroundings of the site are well maintained.
Over the Winter and early Spring months a number of trees have had some surgery and others taken out completely to bring more light into the location and give the ground plants more light to grow in.
This has resulted in a wild abundance of daffodils and I'm sure that they will be joined by masses of bluebells over the coming month.
This is a great site for walkers, bikers and fishers plus there are many places of interest for all members of the family to enjoy within easy travelling distance.Kendal is a good centre for shopping and has plenty of historical interest. The site is in the Lake district and about 25 minutes drive(dependent on traffic)from Windermere, where there is boating for all sailors.
Great stay
Ex site .v friendly wardens,it was our 3 rd visit and won't be the last .extremely clean facilities, peaceful location.and fish and chips on a Friday what more could you want ? First time visited(not the last)
Its always nice to arrive to a warm friendly welcome and we were not disappointed. We loved the fact that the club have used the natural layout to create individual areas. The walks from the site were lovely. My only concern is the "family friendly" description. While we were there kids were climbing all over some of the ruins and could easily have fallen off and seriously hurt themselves. Having said that, maybe it says more about the parents. The river would be like a magnet to children and would I caveat the "family friendly" with "under supervision". We will return.
