Wow...beautiful site. Wardens friendly. Only there for one night but wish I’d booked longer! Will definitely be returning.
Our favourite Caravan and Motorhome Club site
We have stayed at this site many times over the past few years and will continue to do so. The setting in the ruined cordite factory grounds is magical. With trees all around and separating individual placements, you never feel overlooked or crowded. The facilities are always immaculately clean and the wardens are really helpful. There are brilliant local walks in the area, especially up to Levens Hall and to the surrounding villages. It is also well placed to visit other areas within the Lakes and Yorkshire.
Trials and Tribulations of the access to the site
I feel that I have to share my recent experience with both fellow members and the club team with a hope that some action is taken so to avoid others having to endure the same experience…
When arriving at the Kendal site earlier this week just after 13:00 as is requested by the club (note that the latest departure time is 12:00) towing out 7.5 meter caravan we were confronted with a large motor home heading towards us on the single track road leading up to the site who had no intention of making any effort to look for a suitable passing place resulting in a stand off until we “shoe horned” ourselves into a passing place coming perilously close to hitting a grass embankment and eventually passing the motor home with centimetres to spare. The driver of the motor home words to me were “it’s not my problem”.
Can’t the club make it clearer through appropriate signage where there is restricted access to the site not to try and leave the site around the time new arrivals are allowed to turn up and secondly surely members must realise this as its made very clear when new arrivals can start to turn up when booking that there is likely to be some congestion?

Great lakes walking stay
This is a lovely peaceful wooded caravan site. Nice friendly wardens and with easy access in and out of the site. Really nice dog walk from site across a wooden bridge then left along the river side where we sat on the river bank and just watched the world go by. We had a drive to Ambleside which was about 25 minutes away from the site and went up Loughrigg fell which the views at the top were amazing. Good site to stay at for visiting different place in the lakes, would definitely stay here again.
First trip to the Lakes in our van and we landed in a FIRST CLASS site :)
The site is very simple to access with easy road access. Our arrival was seamless (as with most C&M sites) and the staff were friendly helpful and keen to make our stay enjoyable. We had help and advice choosing a pitch and we settled for a wooded pitch (67) very near to all services. The site is very spread out and not at all open so you do get the illusion of being quite secluded due to all the trees. For us this was perfect as we also had the playground at the rear of our pitch and it is after all our 2year olds caravan!
There are many great walks of varying length from the site and one takes you to a lovely farm shop and café without the need to cross a road. We also indulged in the local free range produce for sale just off the site over the suspension bridge.
All in all this was a great place to base ourselves for a 5 day stay in the lakes. The staff always stopped and chatted to us. The baby change and other facilities were very clean. COVID19 measures were in place and seemed to be followed.
We loved it. Thank you
Great site amazing location but trees and rain don’t mix
Came up to Kendal from south England. Weather changed to wet no suprise there. . Site and organisation is brilliant. Showers and toilets worked great. Site next to river and loads of walks and scenery to see. Only issue when it rains all pitches are under way trees. So noisy. Only thing that lets it down.
Our first ever club site
This was our first visit to a club site since joining last year 2019. Due to the situation of 2020 and Covid we have not had any holidays this year and in the past we have always gone abroad
On arriving at Kendal site we found a warm welcome and a charming wooded site. Our pitch was private which makes it easier with a dog.
The toilet facilities where spotless and we did not have to queue to long due to the Covid rules which most followed without question. the odd moaner was soon put in place by the sensible members.
The walks along the river are stunning and both myself and the dog enjoyed them however the path is rough which does mean those with reduced mobility like my wife cant enjoy any part of them.
A walk or cycle up the local farm shop for coffee or a trip under the main road tunnel to the pub is well worth it has both provide excellent food.
The national trust site under the tunnel is also worth a visit.
Overall we were very pleased with our visit to our first club site

A peaceful break
Had a 3 day break at Kendal. It’s a woodland site with many cul-de-sacs for between 1 and 6 units, giving a level of privacy. Campsite delivers a lovely ambience ( especially when the sun shined) and is kept clean and sanitised in the public areas. Only issue is location of site. Bus stop is available but is 20m walk away. Nearest pub is also 20m walk away. If you have a car, then this site is ideal
First visit
We visited the Kendal site as part of our trip to the lakes, in August. We found the site easily, and queued for registration. . This site has lots of different bays for pitching, and although extensive, the Caravan Club approach of “find your own pitch “ and a one way route mainly, saw many unit's passing us in the waiting queue, going back to previously discounted pitches for a second circuit.
Site is convenient safe and pretty, even though it is wooded. Facilities are good, and staff more so. Numbers in facilities were better, with yet another band system change.
We will use again.
Not our favourite type of site
This is really down to personal preferences so not a criticism of the site or wardens. Although it’s called Kendal caravan site it’s located miles from town in the middle of a heavily wooded area. Therefore sunbathing, if it ever makes an appearance is a hit or a miss. You really need to plan ahead if you want to stay here and make sure you have all your supplies beforehand or else pack everything away (motorhomes) and drive to town. The toilet facilities were spotless and the wardens polite and friendly.
