As we like the minimal facility sites, I've considered booking before, and been slightly deterred by apparent slopes. That was a misperception as it's not hard to find somewhere level - didn't even have to use leveliing blocks. It looks green too, which is always good if the ground is firm and having had one overnight of incessant rain while there, it seems to drain well enough not to require a hardstanding. The abundance of green space is a delight, and much more appealing than the gravelly style the club seems to favour. Its open nature on high ground does mean the availability of shelter is not as good as some sites, but 'swings and roundabouts'.
Access to Ilfracombe means a short drive. Like many coastal towns it's not all glam but the town and harbour and well worth a visit. What you make of the 'cooling tower' theatre or Damien Hirst's "Verity" will depend upon your taste but the coast is pretty spectacular. On our visit, while the winds blew and showers fell back at the caravan site, it was sunny and warm in the valley below.
Our visit was just two nights, but I reckon we'll be back.
Peaceful location
Lovely peaceful site near Ilfracombe. Access down a lane but no problem with a motor home.Site is on a slope over two fields but used levelling blocks so fine.Site has a large amount of service points but no toilet block.
Wardens very helpful and site is very clean and well maintained. Much cheaper than many caravan club sites .Has a dog field and a field for children to run around in .
Would definitely stop there again . Great location for Exmoor and North Devon
Helpful, pleasant and hard working wardens
The helpful, pleasant and hard working wardens are the best that we have ever come across since we joined the Club over 20 years ago. This lovely site is set in beautiful countryside with pleasant country views. It has more water and waste points than any other CAM club sites that we have visited and they are kept spotlessly clean. There are wonderful beaches within a few miles of the site. For those people who don't mind using their own facilities and want to visit this part of beautiful Devon, I thoroughly recommend this site. We will definitely come back here again.

Good value, but access not great
Stayed here for a week last month. The friendly wardens have clearly done a lot of work to re-open the site - the grass was well trimmed and everything was tidy. No toilet block or shop but this means the prices are low so it was a cheap week!
Most of the pitches slope (some are very steep) so you'll need blocks.
Good dog walking area.
However...the site is high up and quite exposed so if there's a storm you'll need to make sure your awning is well tied down. Limited public transport and not in walking distance of anything of note. The road down to the nearby village has no paths and some of the locals drive down it really quickly so we didn't risk the walk. Pub had good reviews but limited opening. You'll need to drive to local attractions of which there are many such as Lynton, Infracombe itself and the numerous beaches.
The major negative is the approach road - there are minimal passing places which make it awkward even in a car...we were unfortunate enough to encounter the bus which only runs twice a day as we arrived. we had to reverse quite a way back up the lane and into a farmyard and then back into the lane - not great if you are not a confident reverser or don't have a co-pilot to assist!
Another lovely stay.
We have been using this site for a number of years, several times a year and love it. It has no facilities but it says that if you read about the site. Suits us especially this year with Covid 19. The wardens are lovely, hard working and friendly we have never seen the site so busy for only two wardens. We need to think this site had been left from September 19 until it opened in July 20 so It must have been in a state. The site is in the Devon countryside and in Devon we often have limited bus services, so if you have a MH and do not want to drive it and have no other transport this site may not be for you.
Great location and great staff
We have spent seven nights in this site. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is great to explore North Devon and Somerset (Dunster is less than an hour away). There are no tolilet blocks but a service point is never far away. It also has a dog area where the furry friends can run off lead, and a play area where the kids can do the same! :-)
The weather wasn't the best, so we'll go back in a better occasion, and we'll go again to this site!
A site for a self contained... caravan/ Motorhome
Lovely site.
Clean, friendly, good views.
If you’re going to miss you’re toilet blocks and site shop...This site is not for you. So don’t complain when you get there.
We will go back again and again.
Thanks to the Leeches (site wardens), for being so friendly and helpful.
Great local shop and a choice of beaches 10-15 mins away.

No facilities, but great site and fantastic location to explore
This site is based on "pay for what you get". Do not pay £14-£16 per night and expect a shower block and fancy toilets. There are no facilities on site which actually makes it quite nice, although the site is quite large.
Everyone on site is self sufficient and there are plenty of waste areas located around site which are regularly checked and cleaned by the site wardens, whom I must say were extremely friendly throughout our visit.
The site is located high up with fields all around and far enough from a main road not to have any traffic noise apart from the odd car/tractor going down the lane.
The pitches around the road ways are quite level and therefore fairly easy to set up on, however if you end up on a pitch near the far end of the site if may not be so easy.
Woolacombe, Ilfracombe are 10 minutes drive away, as is Braunton which has a large amount of places to eat and drink.
For those which wish to explore a bit further, Croyde Bay (No dogs allowed on beach though) and Saunton Sands which is a fantastic beach and seems to be a bit quieter than others in the area are only 15-20 minutes drive. Lynton and Lynmouth is about 30 minutes drive away but well worth a visit along with the National Trust walks just round the corner from the village.
We will definitively visit this site again and cannot grumble about any part of our stay.

Lovely quiet site
Lovely quiet site without toilet block/shower block. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Short walk down a steep country lane to pretty village of West Down. Several very nice beaches within a short drive. Site was almost full for one week stay but remained quiet and peaceful. Site as kept spotlessly clean and wardens could be seen disinfecting water, waste and rubbish areas regulary throughout the day. Would definitely visit again.
Delightful location and organisation
Having stayed on this site twice in the last 5 weeks, I can honestly say that it is a lovely experience. I feel that the negative reviews are not justified and don't reflect the enjoyable aspects of staying at this location. The pitches are well spaced out and the hard-working wardens allow you to choose any available pitch that takes your fancy. The views are spectacular (when it doesn't rain or become enveloped in mist!) and it is quiet and relaxing.
Our first trip this year was when it opened on July 4th - the first caravan in at at 9.00am! and Sharon was so helpful and welcoming. She explained that during Lockdown the grass had gone wild: she was so disappointed that the grass cutter had cut the field and had not collected the clippings. Every morning we saw her and her husband trying valiantly to collect them. Yes, there is still some loose grass and in places it is slightly long but it is an outside field - it all adds to the 'away from it all' experience. Wellingtons are always required for the early morning dew and rainy days.
The facilities are meticulously cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis - we felt very well looked after. The absence of toilet and shower blocks suits us because we want to keep contact to a minimum and don't want to take any unnecessary risks during this pandemic (we also want to help keep the tourist area free from any increased number of infections). We have met some lovely people while fetching water and emptying waste - the majority of folk are quiet and thoughtful: indeed, we slept like babies because it was so quiet. All in all, This CC site is exceptionally well looked after by friendly, helpful wardens. Looking forward to our next visit in September. You won't be disappointed...
