Great site with terrible access

I have been using this great site for years. It is well kept with great wardens. The main problem with this site is the appalling access road . It is a one track road with passing places. Due to the local council currently not cutting the local hedges, the over growth now causes you to drive in the middle of the road unless you want your outfit damaged by overhanging branches. Add to this the increased local traffic of the static site next door, the access is simply dangerous. You take your life in your hands when you walk to the beach or walk your dog’s off site. The chances of meeting late departures are quite high if you arrive before 12 midday and an empasse will ensue. I believe a partial solution is to stagger arrivals and departures just like Cirencester which has the same problem and that is you must leave the site before 11am and not arrive before 1pm. That will also assist the wardens in preparing for new arrivals.

First visit lovely site

This was our first visit. Wardens were nice and facilities very clean. Nearby is Burnham on Sea which we personally did not rate. Ideal site for visiting Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury. We took our dog to the beach it is a nice walk from the site and a loveley beach. We did see a nearby bus stop but didnt use it.

No good for dogs

A lovely site with very friendly wardens and excellent location very close to drive on beach. But, no useful facility for digs. “Dog walk” is only the size a standard pitch with a “dogs on leads” policy. The road outside is far too dangerous to walk the dogs.

First impressions on arrival

Due to lack of traffic arrived 27 minutes early to site but parked in late arrivals and waited behind 2 other families. We were greeted by a very rude head warden who stomped over to us and told us we were causing chaos arriving early. This was not true as cars etc could enter and leave site easily. We explained about traffic but she was not interested and walked off. At 12.00 we were greeted by head warden's husband who told my husband to wait in car and woman go pay. Very caveman attitude! The site is advertising for wardens and highlights interpersonal and customer service skills required. Think the head wardens could do with a refresher course. Luckily the other 2 sets of wardens were very friendly. We have previously stayed here luckily, otherwise first impressions would have been off putting. Apart from that site is nice, quiet, and great location for walking to beach.

1st Time Caravanners Finding Life Easy

We are very new to caravan life, to be fair we only collected our first caravan 1 hour before arriving at this beautiful site. From the very moment we arrived we felt welcome and certainly not rushed. The site was easy to drive around with the caravan and there was loads of space for us to reverse onto the hard standing. The wardens took time to explain the site rules and we soon felt a lot more at ease, they were especially helpful with lending us a corner steady handle as we did not notice our caravan did not have one (rookie error). People in nearby pitches were very friendly and offered a few pointers. The site is very clean and calm with plenty of space between pitches and only a short walk from the beech. The directions given to the site were easy and accurate to follow, just take your time in the last few miles. The site seemed to generally level and our pitch did not require the use of any leveling ramps. Thank you for looking after two rookies and their little dog, you made our first time away in the caravan every relaxed and enjoyable. We will certainly be back, loved every second of our stay.

A really nice site

We had a really nice time at Hurn Lane it was our 1st visit and will not be the last. The site was well maintained and in good order with the usual high standard of the Caravan Club. My only observation about the site would be with regard to access and the lack of signage to the site normally there a brown road signs but there are none on the access road. The directions in the book are very accurate but a visual road sign would help opposite the Hurn Lane junction as this is a very narrow road junction.and could easily be missed. We had a nice walk to Brean one evening just be careful on the road lots to see and do in the area a walk up Brean Down is a must also a visit to western super mare and cheddar gorge.

Forgot to say

I wrote a full review earlier but forgot to thank - The kind female warden who had to come and find our motorhome as I had stupidly forgotten to collect my gate pass. The male warden who went beyond the call of duty to find a small nut for me without which one of our 2 chairs would have been useless. This support is what a good Club is all about and I am most grateful.

Great site - very well maintained - excellent staff.

We came for 5 nights and had a very enjoyable stay. The site is well laid out with good spacing, and despite the fact that it is surrounded by other campsites it remains quiet and peaceful. When we were there the other campers were a mature bunch, and there was a noticeable lack of children. The ablution blocks are standard CAMC layout but somehow seem rather more spacious. The wardens do a great job keeping everything clean and tidy. The site shop was closed but we used the Nisa shop in the first campsite on the right on the way to Brean Down. Frankly Burnham and Weston are not appealing to us but we did enjoy cycling to Brean Down and Brent Knoll. The area is a bit thin on things to see by bicycle. Nothing to do with the wardens but I slightly despair when men leave the loos and basins in a mess. It is bad manners and selfish. I wish the Club would put up more signs encouraging people to use the loo brush - or at least to “leave the place as you would expect to find it”. Rant over. We have enjoyed a thoroughly good stay here thanks to the good facilities and superb, hard working staff and highly recommend it to others.

Fabulous site.

Our first visit to this fabulous site. Pitchers well spaced out and level, all areas easy to access and plenty of shrubs and greenery to reduce any noise coming from the statistics which seem to engulf the club site. Noise levels went up on Friday and Saturday nights but nothing nasty. We wouldn't like to be around during school holidays but all other times are ok. People still seem to struggle understanding the wrist bands used outside the toilet blocks, so here's hoping that normality resumes in the near future. A great job done by the wardens on this very busy site. Thank you for your understanding when we didn't leave when we should have, thinking we were staying till Friday SORRY!, Wife put her hands up for that one. When we return we won't make the same mistake. And we will be back as the surrounding area has plenty to offer.
