Great Site in Winter

We have just visited this site for the third time and always in winter as this fits our touring programme. The site facilities have steadily improved and are very good indeed. We booked a fully serviced pitch and it worked well despite the fallen leaves being attracted to the drain. The welcome was warm, as were the spotless shower blocks and the whole site was very tidy considering the time of year and weather. The main road can be noisy with some big lorries passing but this did not cause us any problems. The site is well situated with easy access for even large units and there is plenty of walking directly from the site or from the Sika Trail car park about a mile south towards Wareham. The off road circular walk to and around the Saxon walled town of Wareham is a favourite. The Silent Woman was great for meals and beer as usual, lovely and warm, very friendly and attentive staff and brilliant food (The venison steak was awesome!). An easy drive away is Swanage where the sandy beach is open to dogs Oct-May and there are cliff top walks to Old Harry and Durlston Head. Don't miss Lulworth Cove, where the Boat Shed Cafe on the beach is a great for coffee and a snack, and the iconic Durdle Door with more walking and swimming.Only down side is that the Club WiFi is poor.

Full marks for Hunters Moon!

What a wonderful site! We received a warm welcome from the temporary wardens who were really helpful and friendly. We chose pitch 32 which is nicely tucked away in the corner by the washrooms, backing on to the path leading down to the rear gate into Wareham Forest and the path to the play area and dog field. It was a nice, quiet site, with morning visits from the pheasants and evening visits from the owls. We were worried that, in winter, it would be a bit shaded by the trees but it was fine - we even managed to sit in the afternoon sunshine a couple of times. However, I probably wouldn't want this pitch in the summer unless we had our grandchildren with us, as it could possibly get busy with passing traffic of children on their way to the play area. In the winter it was fairly quiet and secluded, apart from the dog owners who tramped across our pitch - if we'd put the awning up I swear some would have walked through it! We are dog owners and if it irritated us, it would really annoy those without! The dog field was excellent, with a wooded area for kicking up the leaves and playing hide the ball! We saw lots of birds here, including jays. The showers and toilets were spotless (apart from when used by those who have not mastered the art of using a toilet brush!) and 99% of the time I saw no-one else in there. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I always take my own bath mat - saves cold feet or dried feet becoming wet again. We tried The Silent Woman but weren't overly impressed - the pub and staff were very nice, but the food wasn't really that good. However, go down to Wareham Market on a Saturday and try the filo pies which are amazing. We recommend RSPB Arne with the walk down to Shipstal Beach, and Tyneham Village - both wonderful! Thank you to the lovely couple who helped by opening the gate to let in the ambulance when my husband fell ill on our last night. At 11pm it was so kind of you, and I'm sorry we didn't see you before we left but I hope you got my note. A wonderful site, wonderful weather (sunny but cold) and one of the best weeks we have had so far.

Enjoyed our 5 nights at Hunters Moon

We have enjoyed our stayed at Hunters Moon, the the site is well managed, the relief wardens both made us welcome, they have worked tirelessly to pick up the autumn leave around the site. The toilet block was spotless every time we used them, shame the heating temp was not upped a degree or so when the temperature dropped down to 2 degrees. Enjoyed visiting the local area, if you are here on a Saturday visits the Wareham market, the farmer selling pies is good to browse, the steak and Guinness pie is a very good choice.

Looking forward to returning

This site set in the Wareham forest was a delight , clean and friendly. There is lots to explore near by and some great walks. We are looking forward to returning in January. The local pub the Sient Women is to be recommended for service and food. If you get the choice don’t park under the trees in Autumn. We found cleaning the stains of leaves off the roof achievable but hard work

Hunter's moon in the Autumn

We have been coming to this site for many years,it's always spotlessly clean and kept to the highest standards. The downside and this seems to be on the increase across caravan club sites is that many members excercise there dogs on the site only, and not in the dog designated area, resulting in a lot of dogs defecating all over the site, even near the service areas!.There were also dogs in the toilet block and one one barking at 4-30am in the open, the owner calling it in waking many, obviously let out to do his duty. We are a nation of dog lovers,I'm not anti this ,having owned many dogs over the years, but I feel there needs to be more control of dogs on club sites with reprimands for dog owners who persist in flouting the rules.

Late season weekend

The approach via Bere Regis is preferred to Sandford/Wareham. There is no problem of access to and from the site so could not understand why the Rally starting time was not before 14.00 on dark November days. Chose a hard standing pitch and then found I needed levelling blocks! Sad Otherwise a good CC standard.

A great site for the Isle of Purbeck

A well run site, with helpful and friendly wardens. Facilities spotlessly clean. It is worthwhile keeping to the side away from the road, as there can be noisy motorists going past!

Another visit

We've not been back to Hunter's Moon for some time, as we tend to go to Haycraft as it's nearer to the things we like to visit - in particular, Studland Bay. We were here because we have a new dog - Barney - and wanted to introduce him to caravanning in general and to the area in particular. We didn't deviate from our normal routine - Friday afternoon on the beach at Studland (just perfect in the late autumn sunshine), Saturday morning into Wareham - the market, the shops - and then the Banke's Arms for lunch before another stroll along the beach at Studland. Sunday we left having had a 48 hour break which was just perfect. The site - I wish the serviced pitches weren't next to the road, in contrast to others I don't for one moment think it needs more lighting, the wardens were helpful, unobtrusive and friendly, and the pitches well maintained. We'll be back - again.

Why haven’t we been before

Just enjoyed a short stay at Hunters’s Moon and we’re very pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. We pitched in a more open spot towards the back of the site and it was very level, quiet and peaceful. Our welcome from the wardens was friendly and efficient and they were all very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, recommending us to two excellent dog friendly pubs. The facilities were always spotless and our dog loved the large dog walk. The TV booster system was excellent, as was the WiFi most of the time. The only downside was a very poor phone signal from Vodafone most of the time. The beaches at Swanage and Studland are excellent, as was the long dog friendly walk round Poole Quay. Overall an excellent site in a beautiful area. We can’t understand how we’ve missed it out when driving to the West Country over many years in the past and we’re already planning our return for a longer stay next Spring.

A Quiet Break.

We wanted to return to explore Poole and the surrounding area so we felt that Hunters Moon was the most convenient site and our presumption was correct. The welcome that we received could not have been better, friendly and informative. Our pitch was level and situated toward the rear of the site so we suffered no road noise at all, in fact the only noise that we heard were from the occasional military helicopters. The site facilities were excellent and kept very clean indeed. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the dog walks in both areas although we would not have let her off lead even if there had been no notices - Rabbits!! and squirrels which are our dogs favorite chases. We felt also that the provision of the television aerial booster service was a very nice addition to the facilities - a good signal on the odd occasions when it was required. In conclusion the site gave us just what we wanted - a quiet restful six days in a friendly environment and area.
