Second Visit to Hunters Moon.

Just arrived back from a nine night stay, wish we had been there for a month! Love this site, the area is great for touring Dorset. We went as far as Lymington and Beer in Devon on this visit. What a stunning area of the south coast! The site is spotless, clan and tidy and the facilities spot on. Showers work great and there are separate private sinks too. The shower blocks are kept to a terrific standard of cleanliness! There is a small shop inside reception selling a few basics if needed. Staff are friendly and helpful. The site is situated in Wareham Forest and it is so peaceful and quiet. The weather was a bit hit and miss during our stay but that did not spoil our stay, still got out every morning and stayed out till dusk. My only gripe, and this is the people staying on site at fault and not the site itself is the responsible dog owners letting their dogs fowl around the site, I saw this happen frequently. Okay the do pick it up, but I do think this should not happen. Maybe a sign or a leaflet handed out with the welcome pack giving strong rules of the near by dog walk area? Also they should be on a lead at all times, saw this rule broken too.........Might add I have no objections to dogs in the slightest, we sometimes take our daughters dog on holidays with us.....I just think owners should be more responsible! All in all first class stay and first class location for touring Dorset....we will return!

Wet weekend

We stayed over the Easter weekend which was wet. Very wet. This meant that we couldn't enjoy the site to its full potential. Reception was warm and friendly and the staff were constantly in evidence keeping everything clean and tidy. The toilet blocks were kept spotless. Dog walking locally was impossible due to water-logging and surface water but the beaches at Swanage, Studland, Knoll Beach, and Shell Baymade for great walking. The only gripe was the wifi was terrible and reminiscent of dial-up for those that can remember it. However, I suppose if it is pouring down everyone is in their van trying to get online at the same time so contention becomes a problem. Maybe it will be better when the weather improves. I look forward to returning in better weather

week away

We have just come back from 4 nights at this site. The staff were so friendly and helpfull. Facilities were always clean and nicely presented. The site itself was very tidy and spacious. Although we had no children i feel that this site is a bit child limited. No pubs local that will allow them inside. You have to drive for that.

Very helpful staff

First time out this year 16th March for 3 day break great location as we love Wareham and Swanage. Back gate leads straight into forest so you can avoid roads to walk or mountain bike. My caravan refused to budge when due to leave because of a problem with the ALCO ATC system the brakes locked. The staff were great. Especially Graham who could see that I was struggling and came out of the office to help. With his help we got started and will definitely return again. Thanks again Brian

Cold Snap Warm Welcome

Recently returned from a week at Hunters Moon. We endured 2 nights of snow during our visit which quickly went. There are numerous places to visit close by, RSPB Arne, Studland Beach is a must, Swanage, Dorchester, Poole & Bournemouth. There are loads of walks from or close to the site but a bit muddy this time of year in the woodland, no problem though with your boots on. Wardens are great, hard working and nothing seems too much trouble.

Winter visit

Good site in foul weather - no waterlogging or vehicle access problems. Disabled facilities very good for wheelchair user. Good access for lovely dog walking in Wareham Forest, with a handy & secure gate from the site onto the adjoining bridleway (although the neighbouring council-run site is a bit of an eyesore when seen from the path). The local heathland soil is sandy and dries fast, so doesn't get too claggy in winter. The view from the top of Woolbury Hillfort was well worth the walk! No TV reception, but our aerial is never very good, and I've never bothered to take advantage of the coax plugin at the hookup, so no complaint. Site was full on arrival (last day of half-term) and felt it, but emptied out rapidly when the kids went back to school. Staff were a bit picky about lining up with the pegs on the pitch, but given how full the site was that was understandable, and again, no complaint. The local pub, the Silent Woman, is a gem - lovely food and friendly hosts (dogs welcome in the bar, but kids not admitted). Good base for exploring East Dorset - we easily covered Dorchester, Weymouth, Swanage, Wareham, Poole and Blandford in four days. The location combines being in the middle of a large forest with ready access to the main through routes to the West & North. We extended our stay, and would happily go back.

Potted music

Good clean CC Site. Usual facilities. Helpful staff. But PLEASE TURN OFF THE GASTLY POTTED RADIO IN THE TOILET BLOCK. I can have it on in my van if I want, but please don't force us all to have to endure it in a public area. I hope this isn't a "new development" across the network.

Huntersmoan

If its a warm welcolm your after i would suggest another site , first thing the warden (she) said was " your early" well yes half an hour but we waited patiently as the other two were there was only three of us ? then it was if you all turn up early they'll be a que in the road we've got a sat nav theres no need to be early and don't park or drive on the grass because if you get stuck we can't help you ?? well actually we don't have a sat nav and if we all turn up at mid day you would still have a que and we had no intention to drive on the grass ?? Anyway we won't be going back, the site it's self is quite noisy because of the main road lots of traffic and HGV's in and out of the quarry . The electric post's could do with some one to maintan them coax cables for the Tv's fall out and power sockets on our pitch were loose . It was only a weeks stay to air out the van for the coming summer . And might i suggest to the club if one of your wardens is so rude and stipulates how one should park the van then they might want to have a walk around their site .

Lovely site to visit the local attractions from

We stayed here as a couple for 2 nights in early February. Cold wet weather was no problem as pitches with gravel style hard standing were readily available. We pitched up on level ground (no levelling ramps needed) with a south facing pitch to enjoy what little available sunshine we could grab! Although tv reception is listed as poor, we had no problem picking up plenty of digital tv and radio shows from our caravans own aerial. If you are struggling there are tv booster points you can plug into onsite with the usual caravan club co-ax style connectors. The generous electricity hook up points meant our caravan was toasty and warm throughout our stay. Toilets and washrooms were immaculate and heated - lovely! Wardens are very helpful and friendly and the whole site is kept to a very high standard. We chose the site for its location - we wanted to cycle to Monkey World and this site is only 6 miles approx. from the attraction along mainly quiet roads. Also the Sika trail is not far from site by bicycle and made for a scenic afternoon ride for me. Both bike rides were affected by the recent heavy rains with puddles galore but Hunters Moon site was as good as unaffected by this - very little standing water on site. We didn't have time to visit but if you know the area you will already know the tank museum is also very close to the site and ideal for a rainy day. So if you are travelling as a couple or as a family this site has a lot to offer. We enjoyed our stay here and would happily revisit in the future. The location is great for the two big local attractions and if you feel up to it cycling to them is better for your health and cycles don't get stuck in traffic jams!
