Our First Caravan Holiday

As 'Newbies' to caravanning, my wife and I chose this site for its Dorset location. We went in early September knowing that any kids would be back at school. This was a good move as we were looking to have a quiet restful break, whilst learning the ropes regarding our caravan. We were delighted with the facilities block which was kept beautifully clean no matter what time of day and the site staff were always enthusiastic and willing to help. There was a little traffic noise but not enough to worry us unduly. We would not hesitate to recommend this site to other club members, this was our first trip - many more to come!

Heathland site, close to RSPB Arne

Having read the few bad reviews concerning nearby noise I was a little worried about booking, but a pre booking phone call allayed my fears, and the site was fine. We spent 2 nights here and used it as a base for touring the area, and there was no problem with noise. The facilities were excellent but being peak season it was busy and there were some uncaring people who left the toilets in a mess but this was before they were cleaned so no reflection on the wardens. As a motorhomer the main disadvantage was a lack of nearby public transport and would have influenced us in using the site for a longer stay in this very beautiful area.

Great weeks stay. Shame about some other campers.

Had a great week at this beautiful and welcoming site. The facilities were clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The site was peaceful. It was within easy visiting distance of several places of interest. The childrens play area was well cared for and tidy. The only down side was campers who arrived with their children on the Thursday. The childrens first task was to take over the play area until after 10 with no consideration for younger children and throw in a bit of vandalism for good measure. Not the sites fault, completely the parents. Looking forward to visiting this site again.

Perfect

Stayed here in June, Lovely well maintained site, with friendly wardens. Loads of places to visit, Wareham, Studland, Swanage, Corfe, Lulworth. Although almost full, it was never the less a very peaceful relaxed site. Easy access too!

Beautiful area

Just spent three weeks at this site and had a wonderful holiday. We have fallen in love with the area with all the walking and the Jurassic Coast. We were extremely lucky with the weather, with wall to wall sunshine most of the time. Would recommend The Silent Woman and pubs in Wareham itself, all dog friendly. The steam boat the Monarch is well worth a go as is the Orca boat trip, both from Wareham. Tyneham and Abbotsbury are well worth a visit too. The site is busy and, at times noisy, with folk leaving early for the ferry and the wardens are a little enthusiastic collecting the rubbish at 830 every morning (perhaps a little later would be kinder?). There was an issue of people driving their cars/motorhomes round the site well in excess of the 5mph but wardens did their best to stop this when they could. As previously stated the cakes baked by the wardens are delicious, as are croissants and baguettes at the weekend. There is also a well stocked herb garden which we appreciated. All in all a beautiful, well maintained site in the stunning Dorset countryside.

Excellent site!

Hunters Moon is a lovely site, closest place is Wareham which is worth a visit along with all the other big names along this part of the Jurassic coast. The site is the usual mix of grass and hard standing pitches some closer to the road, some that back onto the forest, some close to the children’s play area some further away, so should be something to suit everyone, choice late in the day can be limited as the site is very popular and nearly always full, but after checking with the warden, no problem at all with us changing pitch the following morning if we wanted to, in the end we didn’t as we had realised out pitch (114) got the sun all day. The whole site is clean, tidy and well kept, the toilet blocks are immaculate, despite some thoughtless members having no respect for the person after them, the wardens work very hard to keep everything clean and in good order and manage to remain cheerful and friendly too, well done to you all. We will be back!

Great site

We have just spent a week at Hunters moon. The second time we have stayed here and despite a major car breakdown, have had a lovely time. No noise, other than children playing and odd laughter when people sat outside chatting. The site staff were very helpful when we had to have our car picked up by recovery vehicle. Thank you 😊 As with all sites, no two pitches give the same experience. It’s always worth asking the wardens what they suggest. No problems for tv signal, didn’t use Wi-fi so cant comment. Plenty of facilities and water waste etc. Road noise not really an issue for us. We will be back and would recommend.

Awful experience

Booked this site based on good reviews. However, this is by far the worst site we have visited this year. We decided to leave early. Having booked a serviced pitch and paid a bit more we were disappointed to find ourselves alongside the entrance/exit barriers and within 20 metres of a 50mph busy road. The site seems to have a big daily turnover in incomings and exits. Toilet block was inadequate and in the mornings prior to cleaning was dirty. I saw a few wardens but in my opinion not very friendly or engaging. The Wi-Fi - apparently Silver level - was useless but to be fair I'm finding the Wi-Fi across all the Club sites I've visited as a bit of a joke, given IT technology available in this Country. One big positive was the Dog walking area where dogs could socialise with other dogs and owners with owners. Final gripe is that a bunch of blokes (Tradesmen) moved in nearby with their works van and caravan - worked all day and 'played' till late - keeping us awake until 2am. Doesn't seem acceptable to me.. Won't be going back.

Such a shame.

Such a shame we had to cut short this holiday because of the constant noise coming from the "Council Run" site next door, with motor bikes/quad bikes/cars being rallied around their site all day every day, you could not even read a paper because of it, it was crazy! The Wardens did their best to try to stop it and left a note in the information shed to tell everyone what was going on and they had complained to the Council about it. Not the Wardens fault as they did a great job at everything else and were very good and nice to talk to but we will not be returning!! Even the noise from the main road seemed to be much louder than last year with large trucks thundering past the site at 50 mph at times very early in the morning, and we were pitched further away from the road than last year? Such a shame that this once great and quieter site is being allowed to be spoiled for so many people. Never again!

Good facilities

Came to this site last year with 2 Grandchildren during school summer holidays and decided to do the same again this year. Worked well with so much to do in the Dorset area. We’re National Trust members so a bonus when parking on Studland beaches + other NT car parks. You save pounds! The site is well layed out and kept tidy. Mostly the toilet/ wash blocks were beautifully clean, but on odd occasions caravan/motor home owners had left it in a ‘not so clean’ state. There’s always some that spoil it!! No fault of wardens as they leave the areas scrupulously clean after attending in the mornings. Good information area where there’s a selection of pamphlets to pick up of things to do in the area. The site is safe for the children to ride their bikes/scooters. Play area ok ish. Found some children don’t have manners! But that’s not the fault of the site!! On the whole the site is peaceful, however we did experience loud noise at times in evenings from the travelers site next door, which we weren’t aware of! Noise from Motorcycles, loud banging and barking dogs. Thankfully it didn’t go on all night. The wardens work very hard to keep a high standard. However my only criticism is they come across at times regimental and abrupt. Managed to get a pitch in the shade during the hot weather. A good number of pitches do have the bonus of trees for shade.
