This is a big site and has as many pitches are squeezed on as possible. The club house and entertainment are not our thing, we tried it one night, great for a drink on site but I suspect the food is mainly processed and not homemade - ok if that is your thing but seamed popular, our appetites are bigger too. We did have a noisy neighbour who had two dogs but just left them in cages while they whimpered, why have dogs to keep them in cages. We have a dog and everything we do is based around if the dog can go. The bus stop at the site entrance was always busy but as it was so warm we didn't want to risk the dog overheating and us being stuck somewhere so we stuck to the car on this trip. My best piece of advice for visitors to this site would be to buy a ferry saver ticket to cross over to Dartmouth. There is a large sign at the ferry saying a return is £10. But if you read the other board you can buy 20 singles for £20 and 30 for £30 etc, much better and means you can go over to Dartmouth every day. We found some great independent dog friendly cafes in Dartmouth (Cafe Alf Fresco, Anchorstone (one in Dittisham too), Dart to Mouth Deli, a great independent butcher near the market, and in Brixham if you go further out towards Berry Head there is the Breakwater Bistro, Schoalstone cafe at the Lido, Guardhouse Cafe at Berry Head, also in Brixham a great fishmonger to the left of the Curious Kitchen and small bakery to the right, with a black front, for bread and scones - get to both early though and David's Fish and Chips we better than anything on the Brixham front, on Bolton Street. Dartmouth is closer to site and has more to offer with think, can't wait to return. Loved going for a swim everyday. (All places I have mentioned are on google maps if you zoom in). Don't go to the 'Farm Shop' in the file in the info room - its just an expensive supermarket. Go the local fishmonger in Brixham and butcher in Dartmouth instead if you are having a BBQ. I have given all five stars as the site can not control the people who are next to you, thankfully we were due to leave after a few days so we didn't have them for long. And I have no idea what they plugged in but the noise coming from their pitch was ridiculous, people need to consider others more. All in all great site and we will return in the quieter seasons maybe, if this site has one, the wardens couldn't get to the pitches fast enough for a quick bush trim before the next people arrived! Did feel sorry for the lifeguards round the pool think they need some shelter from the sun and rain, the poor lad was sat there in full sun all day - I couldn't have done it in the heat wave we are currently having.
Fantastic site
Had a week at this fantastic site, first time we have visited even though it is only an hour and a half from home.Although the site was nearly full we were amazed how quiet it was.
The facilities well kept and having the swimming pool was an added extra which we used every day. The food in the Restaurant was good and as previous reviewers have said not expensive. There was entertainment on ever night but it's not our thing but other people said how good it was and although we were pitched near to the entertainment and restaurant we never heard any noise at night.
The bus stops outside going to Brixham,Painton,Torquay,Dartmouth,Kingsmead and Plymouth, so no need to move the Motorhome or use the car.
I wouldn't like to be at Hillhead during the school holidays but great at other times for us retired folk.
Wardens helpful and hard working as are the other staff,Lifeguards,Chefs,Bar staff Shop assistants and Entertainers.
I hope that you give it a try it is worth the journey and we certainly will you it again in the not too distant future.
Lovely break .. But noisy neighbours 😡😡😡
This was our first visit to Hillhead .
Great location to explore Devon , facilities very good , we particularly liked the fact it had a swimming pool, shop, bar/restaurant , and fab dog area. We wish more sites had this .
Although we don't have children , the facilities for little ones also looked good.
Sadly we were next to noisy neighbours .... But thankfully the staff were happy for us to move after 3 days as we had booked for a week .
I am guessing it was because of half term ? The site was absolutely packed .
Aside from that , once we moved to our new pitch we thought it was a great site ... Staff ( except from our check in lady ) were lovely and helpful
Yes we would def visit again 🤗🤗🤗🤗
excellent site
Just returned home after 6 nights stay at Hillhead, third time I've been there. The wardens work tirelessly to ensure the site is maintained to the highest standards and they always appeared cheerful. The only thing that spoilt things were the other visitors some of whom were absolute throbbers. One chap executed a three point turn (with his caravan attached - I kid you not) driving over and across other pitches where caravans were parked nearly taking out a lighting bollard in the process and then drove around the site in the reverse direction just to reach a pitch. I observed 2 other visitors, one with an excessive sense of entitlement, address the wardens as if the wardens were their personal servants. The persons in question were members of the club not non member visitors and why do some folk still refuse to pick up the mess their dogs make? There are adequate numbers of bins around the site.
Rant over.....I would return there for another break but in the meantime will practice my own three point turns!

Expensive for what it is
Stayed here for 2 nights visiting family. Certainly wouldn't have paid £39 a night otherwise. 2 adults on a pitch in a motorhome and I left wondering what I got for that money. Wouldn't rush back.
Hillhead in school holiday seasons
re the latest review, we have been many times out of school hols. and that is the reason for my review rating. After hearing similiar stories in peak school holiday times with incidents similiar to the latest with children knocking on caravan doors and running away etc. nothing on earth would tempt us there in the silly seasons. The rules clearly state no motorised scooters, skateboards etc. are allowed so the poster would have been quite entitled to report to the wardens. Why oh why do the few have to spoil it for the majority.

Not disabled friendly and more suited to families with children.
We have just spent the end of May Bank Holiday weekend at Hillhead. Our welcome was very friendly and welcoming. The pitch we found was on the opposite side to the children's play area and far enough away from the pool for us, the views were beautiful and to sit and listen to the birds singing and watching the rabbits around was great We had a lovely meal up in the restaurant where you were allowed to take dogs in one part undercover which was great, good food, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Unfortunately that is where our good experience ended, it is not at all disabled friendly at all, no pitches on the level near the shower blocks which do have great disabled facilities, but if you are not too near you are stuck due to the steep inclines. Then there are the children, we have stayed at sites with children before, but this was the worst. Kids on bikes, scooters, motorpowered skateboards and electric cart things constantly going up and down the hill past our motorhome, which then set our dog off barking not content with that they kept stopping there making him worse! They have a park use it! Or play outside their pitch where the parents are, people moan about dogs making noise this was kids being annoying and not watched by their parents.
Lovely site
First time at Hillhead and it certainly won’t be my last. A beautiful, clean, well run site with friendly helpful staff. The pitches are a good size with a choice of hard standing or grass with bushes or trees separating them. Some have sea views others views of the hills. If you are a dog owner there is a good sized fenced area where a dog can go off lead. The site was very peaceful when I stayed but I can imagine in summer, when full, it might not be.
The only slight downside is the fact you can’t really walk to anywhere but there is a bus stop right outside the site if you don’t want to drive.

Hillhead
Another good stay at this site, the usual warm welcome and a nice pitch with a sea view.
A few differences since our Autumn visit. The motorhome service point has been moved to the area near the playground and recreation area, still a longish drive round for some but a grid has been installed making things easier.
The shop has more camping/vanning accessories for sale and less food space but still a good service.
Approach roads via the back of Paignton have yet more road widening works so expect delays, especially through the summer.
We enjoyed our usual bus trips down to Kingswear and the passenger ferry to Dartmouth. Plenty of shops and eateries to enjoy, our favourite for a coffee and cake is Saveurs (dogs welcome) very tempting French patisserie, savouries and bread. We also took the ferry to NT Greenway, lovely place to visit, tasty cream teas and attractive gardens surrounding Agatha Christie's interesting old home. All easy to reach from Hillhead on a short stay.
Great for Family Holiday
We stayed here last summer during school holidays for a week. Great location for everything in the area. And there is lots of places to go and see. We went to Brixham a couple of times, Torquay, Babbacombe and the Model Village, and Dartmouth( which is absolutely beautiful). We caught a bus outside the site entrance down to Kingswear, caught a ferry over the river to Dartmouth. A great day!
The site is as the name suggests on a hillside but has beautiful views from some pitches and especially from the large dog walk/ field area.
Pitches are in different areas and sometimes can be difficult to get onto. Its pot luck how good a pitch you get at busy times.
The site though has everything for the family and we will definitely go back sometime.
