Great Hillhead

This is a great site kept very clean and tidy by the wardens.A convenient bus stop at the gate(they do occasionally run on Devon time)We have been coming here for a few years now,and the only BIG disappointment is the food served in what is best described as a bar cafe.IT IS NOT A RESTAURANT. Go into Brixham or Dartmouth for better food similarly priced. Also found that if you don't eat early the Bingo players pile in ready to play at 7.45 8.00 ish. Apart from this it IS a great site to base yourselves. Ps yes we did mention the food disappointment which was brushed off. We will return but not for the food.

Will definitely return..... fantastic site

This was our first time at Hillhead and we all really enjoyed it. The site is lovely and kept really clean and tidy. Toilets and showers were immaculate at all times and we were all really impressed with the site in general. We will definitely be returning probably in the summer months as my daughter was really disappointed that the pool wasn’t open (we visited in april). Staff were fantastic and staying an extra night due to the weather forecast was not a problem at all

Great site but £35 a night?

Usual good experience at excellent site. Good access to buses outside gate. Lots of great pubs and eateries in Brixham and great coast walks. The only negative was the cost had doubled since our last stay in November presumably to pick up on people wanting to tag on holiday to Easter. Result a virtually empty site. Not impressed!

Always good to stay here

We tend to return to Hillhead once or twice each year. We have a 7.6m motorhome so we tend to use the excellent bus service or walk to visit various attractions each day. We spend a lot of time in Dartmouth and usually take a walk to Dartmouth Castle. Unfortunately, we found that the cafe there was only open Friday to Monday this time of year. However, the excellent Smith Street Deli proved worth a visit on our return to Dartmouth. We managed to get a pitch on "Millionairs Row" (top of the site with the best view) for the first time ever. Well worth the wait - but not if it is very windy. Facilities clean and the staff were helpful. I was told that there are 6 miles of hedges to cut so that must keep them busy.

Great Site & Friendly Staff

I was almost put off staying at this site because of reviews about miserable staff (or atleast one). Nothing could be further from the truth. I was given a warm welcome & advice on bus timetables. There are some great views from certain pitches if you are lucky to get there when it's quiet. We went in March mid-week. There is a bus-stop right outside. It might be worth buying an all day ticket depending on where you are going. We went to Dartmouth & Brixham in one day. The bar/restaurant was closed as it was out of season so might be worth checking when you book. A lot of the pitches had hedges in between to give you added privacy.

Fabulous caravan park +++++

Having just spent 10 nights at Hillhead words cannot describe our expierence at this caravan park, the site was very peaceful and quiet, the staff friendly and atmosphere festive. The amenities clean and within easy reach .The entertainment was absolutely fabulous ,my only issue if I may was the catering , it could do with a little more imagination as our order was somewhat bland and tasteless, The menu at the bar was a let down as the kitchen did not have the food to cook or had run out, and this with an empty bar? These issues can be overlooked as it was end of season and most likely the stocks run down. This was our second visit to Hillhead. The bus service was very good with the bus stop outsite the site main entrance . New years eve party was mind blowing and memorable , will we come back? you darn right we will:)))))

Great site even on a wet and windy week-end

No much to say really, the rain poured down for most of Saturday we went to see the fireworks in Brixham that night and it was spectacular. Went back to site on the bus that stops right outside, had a nice meal in the club house with a drink, then went back to our van. The toilet blacks were always warm clean and dry and even the staff that were raking the leaves in the pouring rain were very pleasant. Great site all I can say is "go there"

Autumn break at popular site proves slightly disappointing

This is a site we would avoid during the main holiday season as its is obviously family orientated but we thought out of season in November would be an excellent base to visit the Torbay area. The added incentive of service pitches to take away the need to do the chores in the possibly cold & wet conditions and midweek discount ticked all the boxes. However, whilst arriving on site was pleasant enough when we looked to choose a service pitch we found that these differed greatly in size even to the point where it would prove impossible to pitch caravan, awning and place car as specified by the Club’s obligatory rules. We eventually chose pitch 7 but had to resort to moving the pitch peg to get all elements within the hedges. My OH actually paced out pitches 6 & 7 and pitch 6 was about 3 foot narrower! At least the view was worth It! Looking around the rest of the site it is pleasantly attractive with lots of bays and sections but I would imagine when busy would prove difficult to navigate and I would be concerned about children running around being at risk of cars & outfits moving around. We can’t comment on the restaurant facility as we chose not to use it. One thing that did concern us was the wardens failed to empty the recycling bins for the whole of the eight days we were there and they were overflowing to the point the lid could not be closed on the morning we left. The location of the site was good for visiting the Dartmouth & Torbay area with the ferry across to Dartmouth particularly enjoyable if a little unnerving at first. Also the Guardroom cafe on Berry Head serves lovely breakfasts until midday and allows dogs inside with doggy biscuits treats for them. All in all a great break but the site did not quite met normal expected standards.

2 stays this year

We went to this site in our motorhome twice this year and it was absolutely excellent. We have now booked for two weeks next year. We are walkers so we did not have to take the motorhome off site as there is a bus stop at the site entrance. One direction goes down to Dartmouth and the other to Brixham/ Paignton/Torquay. We had a great time.
