We have stayed at Hillhead on quite a few occasions over the last ten years .We think it is a wonderful site, perfectly located and offers great facilities. I have one or two negative comments regarding our recent visit. Please put some WD40 on the toilet block hinges/closers. Shave the bottom off the main door into the block. It hasn't closed properly for over 12 months! Change the ale in the bar. I am aware that some undiscerning drinkers think Doombar is okay. But what about those who like a proper hoppy ale. Tribute is better than nothing. The bar manager obviously is not a beer drinker. On the plus side this meant that we had to avail ourselves of the house doubles at £3 what a bargain. I appreciate that this is a very busy site. We are booked in for Xmas again as well as next summer. Lets hope the doors aren't squeaking and there is a decent beer on draught.
1week stay
We arrived last Saturday for a week were still here facilities very clean louise on reception very helpful we come here twice yearly and its never disappointed us views fantastic. I agree its all about getting the right pitch but I think that applies to most sites. Bus stop right outside is perfect and all the places to visit are so local. Entertainment in my opinion was better last year. Swimming pool excellent. We avoid school holidays here as it can get rather busy and better suited to families rather than us couples in that school holiday period. Haven’t eaten at the complex so can’t comment on that but we have heard some good remarks from neighbours who had gone there for dinner. Cant fault this site and we will continue to come for many years to come.
Don't be fooled by website photo !!
We choose this site as the photo's looked lovely, which is just what we wanted, sea view, grass separated by hedge pitch, looks perfect....
Unfortunately when we arrived last Sat the site was at full capacity and there was one pitch only available for our motorhome (whatever you do don't be honest and book 'no awning' as the pitches are minuscule !!!) We did have a slight view through the trees of the hills, but honestly after camping for 35 years have never been on such a small pitch and the whole row was hemmed in like sardines, not quite what you want for a relaxing holiday..
Having said that we found the site very clean and enjoyed the swimming pool, the shop is well stocked and it has a great dog walk but if it's a relaxing get away to the countryside with privacy and space this was not the case for us and to be honest ruined my holiday :o(
Great location but........
We were on pitch 187, a serviced pitch. When we arrived we had a limited choice of 2 pitches both on the same row. The access is narrow with no way of turning round without the use of a motor mover. Having said that the pitch was relatively quiet and we enjoyed our stay.
The facilities were a disgrace. Water everywhere, seats in the showers, floor etc. Soap not refilled and dirty, disgusting toilets. Maybe once a day cleaning is not often enough.
Bus service from the gate is excellent.
Our stay cost us in excess of £45 a night. This is very expensive and well over the going rate. I do worry for the Club and a full review of income and expenditure might help us get back into the real competitive world before it is too late.
Stunning views
We have just stayed for 1 week at hillhead site. The views from this site are fantastic, beautiful rolling hills and the sea. Walking our dogs on the dog walk field was lovely as the views from here are especially lovely, looking down over brixham, the sea and cliffs.
Our pitch was grass, it was fine, we had an awning and there was lots of space in front of the van where we parked the car. Pitches on this site vary in size and situation. There are lots of small grassy areas with pitches which makes it feel private.
The bar and pool are very good. We ate in the bar once, the food was just o.k. Nothing outstanding but o.k. if you’re looking for something convenient.
Wardens were very friendly and busy, this is a big site with multiple areas to maintain and everywhere always looked clean and tidy.
Toilet block is fine, the showers were always busy during our stay.
One big disappointment we had was the absence of WiFi. We pay for the annual WiFi package but we didn’t have WiFi access from our pitch. A mast near us wasn’t working properly and it wasn’t fixed during the time we were there. WiFi was available in the bar area. If you rely on the club WiFi as we do and if you need access to internet services I would advise you to ask wardens if there are any issues with WiFi before you choose your pitch.
The big pluses of this site are the amazing views, the great amenities (except for WiFi!) and the variety of different types of pitches.
Wonderful site
We have just spent two weeks at Hillhead. As others have said, warm welcome and lovely facilities. We too were initially daunted by the size, but there are plenty of hedges and trees ensuring some privacy. Plenty of pitches have lovely sea views. The shop sells most basic food items, caravan spares and newspapers. Be sure to catch the hot pastries for breakfast, they are lovely. The bus outside the site has an hourly service to Paignton, but more frequently to Brixham, Kingswear and Torquay. We bought a book of tickets for the ferry to Dartmouth, which represents a considerable saving on pay as you go. Only one thing marred our visit. If you like your privacy, avoid pitch 88. We had people walking across the front and behind our van the whole time. They were taking a shortcut to the toilet block.
Disconcerting as our bathroom is on the back of the van!

Not good for big outfits
Just return home after spending a week on site, the site was very clean as was all the facilities but we were disappointed with the access road to the service pitches (we were on pitch 182), you only have to look where caravans have driven over the kerb & see the tyre scuff marks on the kerb & scrape marks from wheels, we managed to get pitched up as hubby was confident in reversing all we can say is thank god for our motor mover, we was quite concerned as to whether we could get off the pitch but thankfully we managed it in the end, the non service pitches seemed to have better access & size in the majority of them we would have expected to have better pitch access wise seeing as we paid for service pitch, after talking to other caravanners who was also on service pitches we all seemed to agree on the access to these pitches, although everything else was good sadly because we prefer service pitches we don’t think we will be back.
Lovely Four Days
We’re currently touring Devon and stayed at Hillhead for 4 days. I was a bit wary about the site being so big as normally go for smaller sites but our pitch had hedges both sides and a road bordered with a hedge in front so very secluded. Motorhome service point was large and very easy to empty and fill. Shop had all essentials, shower block always clean and site was well kept. Bus stop right outside site takes you to Kingswear, Dartmouth, Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. All in all the site was good and we would stay there again if in the area.

Enjoyable stay
Had an enjoyable week over the Bank holiday, good site - loads of friendly/helpful staff. It is so nice to be able to have an evening drink and not be driving! Good walks along the coast linked in with the handy buses. My only moan is the new style electric bollards - I had two new neighbours during my week and they both managed to switch off my power rather than switch on theirs. The first time meant I arrived back home to an "off" fridge, the second time was in the evening - switching off my computer, clocks, kettle.....a pain.
Poorly kept
Well just got back from Hillhead £411.00 for a week !!!!
No toilet paper in 4 out of 8 toilet all week 😡
No hand soap in dispensers all week
Horrid used plasters in pool showers
Guttering pipe fell off ended up in the pool
Warden with the short blonde hair all of the above was mentioned to her she didn’t care 😡
Hygiene this is how germs spread disgusting
