We've just got back from 9 nights at hillhead, it's a beautiful site very clean and well kept. It's ideally positioned for trips to brixham, Torquay, babbacombe and many more. Before we arrived I'd checked out reviews which were on the whole good, I did read one which said you can't walk anywhere from the site as there are no footpaths. This is incorrect you can walk in both directions on a concealed footpaths/ bridleways set back from the roads. The shop is well stocked & reasonably priced. The clubhouse is great with entertainment on most nights & the food is lovely. All the staff were brilliant with a special mention for Paris who was always bright and bubbly. It was great great to have the pool which is heated for a morning swim, we did have to book sessions due to covid. The showers & toilets were always clean and the band system worked well. If I've any little niggle it would be that it was hard to find a available pitch as there are lots of little cul-de-sac's which were difficult to see down we found it easier for me to get out and walk round to find a pitch, then let my partner know the pitch number I'd found. But that's just a small thing overall an excellent site and would highly recommend staying there.
Just returned from a 20 night stay! The weather was very kind but was disappointed not to have the pool during the first really warm week. (A well kept secret by CMC) Always enjoyable here and the staff were helpful and hard working despite rather disappointedly ignorant visitors, failing to adhere to COVID rules and more importantly, speed rules. At times it was like a race track. Can’t they read the large 5 mile signs in the roads!
The shop, pool and restaurant staff always helpful and friendly …… thank you so much. However, the Wardens were always extremely busy and hardly had time for a chat or a smile! Seemed to need extra help, we think!
Needless to say the site is so well positioned for walks, bus, and towns nearby with fun for all ages.
The view from the field over the bay, with the cruise ships was amazing!
Fingers crossed we shall see you next year if we can get a booking!!!!!!
The wardens were busy but professional and we found one of the last 4 pitches ok -though with hindsight we picked the only pitch with shade after 5pm which was a shame as the weather was fantastic.
We used the local buses nearly every day as no easy walks from here and roads not safe for cycling. The bus is great and day tickets lets you travel all day -though we went on the bus and then got the ferry back to Brixham which was nice.
holiday sadly not as expected though as pool shut -due to Covid, don't really understand this as in general pools have been able to open since 19/5. I appreciate not site staff fault but we should have been informed in big letters when booking -not having to find this fact hidden in Covid FAQ's.
the staff in the bar were excellent but sorry cant recommend the food and this was after the kitchen shut for 3 days (not told on check in about this or the pool closure)
I'm afraid a few disappointed people around the week we were there but sure its fab when the pool is open and the regular chef is back.
Good site with lots of facilities to keep most folk happy and their dogs. The access is also good as are the wardens. The surrounding area is also fantastic. We found the electric bollard was new to us this year, you have to plug in and raise a switch, nothing difficult when you know. The shop only take cards as payment as well.
The site as with most sites this year was choc a block, we found a pitch easily as I asked the warden if there were vacant pitches in a certain area, however other folk were not so lucky and it took time for them to find one. Another person suggested allocated pitches which I don't agree with, however when there are only a few pitches left perhaps the wardens could mark them on the map for the people. I use the 50% off offer when I visit this site as IMO the prices are sky high
Hillhead is a big site with lots of facilities but the hedging around many of the pitches makes it feel more like a small site. All staff are great in all the roles from wating staff to wardens.Location excellent, really liked parking in Kingswear and taking the ferry to Dartmouth. Highly recommended!
A very well run busy site that we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with lots to see and do in the immediate area but oh that wifi!
The wifi on this site is without a doubt the worst we have ever come across on a Caravan Club site.
The staff even had trouble accessing it when members tried to make contact less payments with the card machine!
I would also like to suggest that on large very busy sites which are full like Hillhead and also Looe, where we were before, the Club allocate piches, grass or hard standing, rather than members struggling to find an empty pitch, particularly Hillhead with all its little cul de sacs as this is very stressful.
A final observation and a plus for Covid. It's so good to see that the shower curtains and stools have gone. May they never reappear!
First time we have stayed on this site and we were pleased to be located in the upper field which had its own separate toilet facility which was very convenient. Main facilities were excellent with a shop and restaurant on site. Access to the site was straight forward. A lot of the pitches are very tight. The card access and exit reader was difficult to reach through the car window and would benefit from being on an extended arm. The main toilet facility was excellent and the site was well maintained by the wardens.
We had a really enjoyable 7 days at Hillhead but, when leaving, we had a problem getting off our pitch. We asked the Wardens for some help and, immediately, they dropped what they were doing and helped us get going. The two guys who helped were, I think, called Matt and Andy and we can’t thank them enough both for sorting us out but also being so supportive. Thanks guys to you and all the team!
Very well organised site, friendly and helpful staff. Good facilities and excellent dog exercise field. Enjoyed our 4 night stay in May despite the awful weather. On our one good day we (and our dog) took the bus to Kingsweir and then the ferry over to Dartmouth. So easy as the bus stop is right outside the main site entrance. Will definitely make a return journey.
What a fantastic, clean, friendly and well run Club Site. We were met at the gate by one of the site staff who was friendly, jovial and helpful.
Although only there for 2 nights we still managed to have a full day in Dartmouth which is a really arduous walk back, but excellent if you like a challenge. Will definitely go back as the site is well situated and the views are fantastic.
Didn't use the catering facilities on this occasion but they looked really good. Site pitch we used was really well positioned and was easy to park in and had good sheltered hedge breaks.
Thanks to the staff for making this an excellent stay and look forward to coming back later in the year.
