First visit

Always wanted to try this site and were not disappointed. The walks from the ste and around the reservoir are what makes it special. Food at both visitor centres is good value and quality. Bird hives offer great viewing of the interesting birds on the water . Parking for motor homes at the visitor centres is reasonably priced and transferable between the car parks. Night barriers are raised during the day!

SWIMMING POOL OUT OF ACTION FOR OUR HOLIDAY

ARRIVED ON MONDAY 7TH AUGUST TO BE TOLD THE SWIMMING POOL HAD A BROKEN PUMP AND NOT SURE WHEN IT WOULD BE OPEN BUT HOPEFULLY BY THURSDAY, HAVING A 15 AND 6 YEAR OLD, FINDING ACTIVITIES FOR THEM BOTH TO ENJOY IS HARD. WE LEFT ON SUNDAY AND NO SIGN OF THE POOL BEING FIXED. WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE WE LEFT FOR OUR HOLIDAY, AND NO REFUND WAS OFFERED. OUR PITCH BECAME VERY BOGGY AND WATER LOGGED IN PLACES, WHEN IT RAINED DRAINAGE NEEDS LOOKING AT SITE WAS CLEAN AS WAS THE TOILETS. OLDER CHILDREN DOMINATED THE PLAY AREA PUSHING YOUNGER CHILDREN AWAY, AND PLAYING OUT TILL LATE. 5 mph ON SITE NEEDS TO BE ADHERED BY

Disappointing ... pool out of action for too long

We arrived on Thursday at 1pm but by 4pm the pool was closed due to a fault. Initially it appeared the closure would only be temporary but it soon became clear there was a major problem with the pump. Very disappointing ... something that should have been spotted during the pre-season service? By Wednesday 11am the pool was still closed. We booked this site more than 8 months ago in order to spend quality time with our grandchildren - we didn't get to so much as put a toe in the water! Playground short of play equipment and for the first 4 days of our stay the playground was totally dominated by older children. Suggest more equipment and a play area for little ones.

Disappointing

We stayed for one night in July 2017. We thought we would try this as an alternative overnight stay on our long journey south but I regret to say we won't come back. The warden was friendly on arrival and we were advised to take a particular pitch as not all had access to wifi. To be fair it was busy, but the whole impression of the site was unkempt and untidy. The grass was not cut, the hard standing areas were sprouting weeds and were not properly defined. There seemed no way we could easily access the toilet block without virtually walking past the door of the caravan opposite. It all just seemed disorganised and a bit of a mess. Toilet facilities were clean however. It may be that the site has just not had investment recently but it was not up to the standard we expect and usually experience from the club.

Very welcoming

We read the previous negative reviews and arrived on site thinking the worst! However, nothing could have been further from the truth. The wardens John and Sharon Hope were very welcoming. John was very helpful in sorting out our little problem with hooking up! We are relatively new to caravaning so are still on a bit of a learning curve! The only downside was that other caravaners walked right in front of our van as a short cut to the toilet block and the few children that were on site thought it fun to play hide and seek using the toilet block as a hide out , letting the door slam every time!! Also running around everyone's vans! Apart from that it is a lovely site.

Excellently Run

Having stayed on 18 campsites in the past 3 weeks travelling from the South of France to Landsend then John O'Groats due to my husband raising money cycling for a charity on the Isle of Man we can comfortably say that this is the most relaxing and well run campsite we have been on which is weird reading the previous reviews. The wardens who we were dealing with were Sharon and John Hope and we found them extremely helpful, relaxed and the campsite clean, tidy and the swimming pool something to be proud of..... So either these are not the normal wardens running this campsite or when the other people who reviewed this site met some other wardens but for us excellent service, excellent facilities and excellent groundworks.... Job well done as far as we are concerned and a massive thank you for showing us how a campsite should be run.....

Not welcome here?

We recently spent six nights on this site arriving on 6th July. We got to site at 11.50 and was not the first in the que, after approx 15 minutes mrs warden came across and told us we were early as 1pm was the earliest arrival time. So yes I have accept we did not check with latest info.apparently it is to avoid congestion along the lane, but it also meant they could have an undisturbed lunchbreak. As another reviewer has mentioned there are homemade signs everywhere. Each time we went into the office mrs warden (we never got first name terms!)would have a moan about early / late arrivals, how poorly they were treated by the club. Mr warden seemed to have a very easy time; someone else cut the grass. The whole site is obviously unloved with just the basics being done. This is only the second time in 30 years as a member I have felt it necessary to make a comment about the wardens attitude; let's hope it improves or they are replaced

Don't ask for ice cream!

Let's get the negatives out the way first. If you like home made wardens notices telling you what you can and cannot do this is the site for you. There are 11 at least in the gents toilets, 4 in the washing up room and that's just for starters. On the office door the new style wardens name sign tells us that we're here to help. Not true at 17.15 on a very hot Saturday afternoon, I went to the office to buy a couple of ice creams, Mrs Warden was checking in a motor home. She stoped serving the new arrival and abruptly told me that she was closed, I explained I only wanted to purchase an ice cream but no that was not an emergency so go away. Which I did and hence this review. The site itself is a little unkept the warden seems to rely on a volunteer to do the hard work of keeping the site tidy. There is a local community run shop a few minutes walk from the site for all your needs and Grafham water is also a short stroll. The village church is stunning and they have a book stall in their porch. Note there is no pub in the village. On a final positive note the swimming pool is nice.

Peaceful and Relaxing

We arrived and were greeted by the friendly Sue who directed us to the pitches available to us and we were allowed to choose the one we wanted, and we chose well. The weather was HOT, but it would not have mattered if the weather was poor. All we wanted from this week away was peace and quiet and just total relaxation.......and thats just what we got. The wardens are really happy and friendly and always had time for a chat. If we were in this area again we would have no hesitation in booking in here again.
