Caravan Newbies

We have just retired and brought our first caravan and decided to use 2 days at Grafham Water to try it out . The site was great quiet and clean in mid March 2018. But my reason for this review is to give many thanks to the site wardens who got us sorted out. We had problems with our vans heating, putting up the awning and hitching up to leave. We received lots of help and advice but more importantly patience and understanding as we fumbled through our first venture out. We left wiser and more confident for a next triip. If all wardens are as professional and understanding in the other seven sites we have booked we will be very fortunate!

First Time

Its the first time we have been to this site, it was lovely apart from the screaming kids opposite who were on hols with grandparents who were more interested in TV than supervising! We didn't let this stop us, went to grafham water and lovely place all within biking, driving distance. Toilet block clean but dismayed to see a few loos out of order and a shower. We will be back ....

Peaceful & Pleasant Site

Upon arrival we were made to feel welcome and the warden was very helpful (and in my case patient) in helping us set up for our couple of days stay. The standard of all facilities were very high and well maintained as expected at all Caravan & Motorhome Club Sites. Not a very large site but in a lovely location for exploring Grafham Water within easy reach. A 10 minute walk takes you through the local village where you will find the Community Shop, what a lovely facility this is, stocked with any essentials you may have forgotten as well as some local produce, including bakery goodies. We were recommended the lemon drizzle cake but opted for the port and brandy cake (hic), very nice. Children on site were all well behaved and the play areas appeared to be well maintained and safe. A popular site and quite rightly so, very peaceful and pleasant.

Excellent Weekend

We were not sure about this site when we booked but it was close to what we wanted to do for the weekend so went with it. We were very surprised at the quietness and peacefulness of the area, the site was lovely well maintained and a joy to stay on. Not quite sure about the other reviews but I would not hesitate to stay there again, the showers and wash facilities were clean and tidy, the water was hot and plenty of it. All in all we had a very relaxing three night stay and would not hesitate to go back again.

Peaceful Compact Site

We visited with family and chose a Serviced Pitch which was very convenient with our motorhome. Warm reception by staff and directed to the "best" pitch with the most sun which was very much appreciated- both for us and our solar panels! The pitch was large and mostly level (we did require levelling) and backing on to trees. We couldn't pick up any reception on our TV which wasn't an issue as we were out and about but useful if you're here for longer and wish to use the TV. We used our onboard facilities so didn't use the site toilets or showers but we were told that they were clean and well appointed. The site is in the "sticks", a short walk from the lake and the local village, but there is not a lot there. The village shop is a community run one which wasn't open when we visited and the onsite shop was empty. We saw some toilet paper and chemical, so the absolute basics. It would have been nice to see some milk, bread, butter, maybe some eggs- the essentials if you are really in a pickle. Otherwise you will have to stock up before you arrive or use a car to get to a larger town. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, the site was very compact, the smallest Caravan Club site we've ever stayed at and we would return if it was a convenient stop off point on the way somewhere else. The lake was pretty but was covered in mosquitoes and midgies which made is unpleasant to walk around. The pathways were covered in dog excrement also, you really had to be careful where you stepped, which is a shame.

Relaxing weekend

We have just returned from a lovely relaxing weekend at Grafham, the site was lovely and clean and tidy. The wardens helpful friendly and polite. We found plenty of different walks for the dogs so that kept them entertained and tired! All in all a lovely weekend as we went on a trip down memory lane as well, we use to have a boat on the River Ouze so went to some of our old haunts. Lovely.

Great Little Site

Stayed at this site in September and had a lovely time, weather was kind to us so were able to sit outside, site surrounded by fields so was lovely and peaceful, walked into village down quite lane to local community shop and easy walk to Grafham lake, not many site can say they have a American Eagle Owl as a frequent visitor, causes quite a stir among campers. We chose this site as it was central to where we wanted to visit, ie Cambridge and Old Warden. Well looked after site, toilets clean and grass cut, no real reason to complain so I wont.

A relaxing stay

Our latest visit to Grafham proved to be just as nice as our previous visits. It's always very peaceful and relaxing here. My wife and I have previously cycled around the reservoir, but on this occasion we only went for walks, and the wildlife in the fields and waterside is a pleasure to see and hear. On-site staff are very welcoming and helpful, and we are sure to visit again.

gem of a site

We decided on a late break and booked in at Grafham 21st to 27th September. The site was almost full and we were offered a full service pitch which cost a few pounds more. I was a bit surprised that it was a little narrow but no awning so we were okay. The site pitches are a little untidy but so what! Its obviously a very busy place and there are only so many hours in the day. The wardens were out with the tractor and the toilet block was spotless. My answer to the moaners is, if you dont like it leave. The site sits just outside the village which has a very friendly community shop with all the usual essentials and very friendly staff who live in the village. At the end of the approach road is a right of way that leads through woodland down to Grafham Lake which was showing signs of Green/Blue algae. The dog was kept well away from it but we did see others in the water. The lake walk is around 9 miles in total but going one way leads to a cafe and bike hire place. the cafe is fine but the bike hire seemed very expensive compared to some of the places we have been to this year. Lots of good flat walking. There is a good Asian resteraunt in the village with great food but do book as it gets very busy. We visited the Steam Fayre at Kettering, spent a day wandering around Cambridge using the Park and Ride, free if you are wrinklies like us. The Warden John showed us an easy route to the Park and Ride place without getting involved with the A14 which runs about 3 miles to the north of the site. There is a resident escaped North American Long eared Owl that visits the site daily, we didn't get to see him but we were given a few feathers by the wardens which are in my Ozzie hat along with an Eagle tail feather. Loads of pictures of him in the info shed. A great smallish site with great staff both regular and temps with tons of loacl knowledge. One that we will be back to.

So helpful

Stayed here on our “maiden voyage” in our new motorhome when unfortunately had a problem with the electrics. The site warden could not have been more friendly and helpful and couldn’t have done more to try and resolve our problem. We will definitely be back once we have a working motorhome.
