Planes

Lovely if you want to see the planes, but can be a bit noisy. Location is ideal, but could with more information where safe to cycle or catch a bus if you don’t have a car. Lovely friendly helpful staff.

Convenient, good for plane spotting but rules don't apply to everyone it seems!

First the good. This site is spotless, showers & facilities great, nice dog field with bins, lots of birds (& rabbits), interesting to watch the planes & convenient for the M23. I wouldn't stay here when the planes aren't stopped by Covid but people complaining it is noisy because of them I just don't get. It's Gatwick airport. Does that really need an explanation? The wardens are lovely too so lots to like. Yes there are a lot of people living here and I do get people take offence to them taking pitches, but we have done it whilst moving & they pay their way, so no problem for us. The problem we had was that there are rules but they didn't seem to apply to one family. Taking up more than their share of the site with belonging & washing. Child running around naked not under any control as is supposed to happen, which is embarrassing and dangerous for her & drivers. At 10.15 at night they all take a walk of the whole site, child shouting when people are in bed & dog running everywhere off lead under no control. Most club sites are strict but you get a standard you expect & we thought this let that down sadly. That may not offend some people but for us it let things down.

I'm glad we went during travel restrictions

This is a delightful site, with signage that was very clear and amusing. However, it is extremely close to Gatwick Airport, and I imagine that in normal times the aircraft noise is very intrusive. As there is very restricted overseas travel just now, this was not a problem, as there were no flights the evening we stayed there, and very few the following morning.

Great site great staff

We have returned to the Gatwick site on a few occasions since the Covid restrictions were lifted. We were fortunate enough to be here on the weekend it reopened as well as having a number of other weekend stays and a longer 10 night stay in early September. The site is much quieter now, each time we have been recently it has never been over half full. I think this is due to all the contract workers at Gatwick no longer using the site to stay at as they have unfortunately lost their employment. I don't want to sound like I am profiting from their misfortune, but it does make for better pitch selection and we have always been able to get a pitch even at the last minute, something we have struggled with in the past. The site is well located for local shops as well as having good transport links to the many attractions in the area. We would like to compliment the wardens, both the regular ones and the ones providing cover for their leave. The site facilities are kept spotlessly clean and there is a great system in place to help ensure social distancing. With regards social distancing "It would be perfect if all the visitors to the site could read the paperwork given to them on arrival to the site and then abide by the instructions and rules on it". This would make the wardens job easier as well as ensuring all visitors are safe. The club and wardens have gone to great lengths to ensure the sites can open safely. All visitors should respect that to help ensure the sites stay safe and open for us all to enjoy. That includes users of the storage facility who generally seem not to follow the procedures. Post Covid lockdown we cannot fault the staff or the site. If you did have a problem at this site I am sure the wardens would do anything in their power to help you, they have always been great with us. This is a great small and friendly site.

Lovely, well maintained and clean site but let down by the wardens

This is close to being an excellent site, it is really noisy but is reflected in the price, its very cheap. My only issue is with the staff, I think they fit the job title of "Wardens" verry well.......

Overnight Stop

Used Gatwick for 1 night to avoid travelling on the M25 on a Monday. There was very little aircraft noise due to COVID but I think it would normally be very intrusive.

Wonderful wardens

We stayed here over the weekend of the 19/20th October. My 93 year old father had been rushed into East Grinstead hospital miles from home. We booked this site so that I could be close by to be with him. Carol the warden was fantastic....she called me back to confirm a booking for me....I was in a bit of a panic. She reassured me that a pitch would be available as long as we needed it. Nothing was too much trouble....she was so caring kind and helpful. Dad was not in as long as we thought and again Carol was able to help and cancel extra nights I had booked just in case. The site was perfect and immaculate, shower block was spotless. I cannot thank her and Geoff enough. Wonderful wardens. What would we do without them.

Lovely small site, wonderful wardens

We stayed on this for only one night to prepare our van for our first ever long trip with it. Carole and Geoff and are amazingly friendly and helpful; noting was too much bother and we arranged temporary storage so that we can pick up and go on Saturday. The site itself is small as the site also operates as a storage facility but it is immaculate and the toilet blocks were always spotless. It is right next to Gatwick Airport so so can see the planes take off and land. Flying stops around 11pm and commences around 6am but I loved the sound of the aircraft - it sent me into the deepest sleep I've had in months! We can't thank Carole and Geoff enough and look forward to seeing more of them over the coming months as we come and go with our van.

What's missing

Excellent facilities, cleanliness and welcome by staff. BUT..... We only stayed one night and found the site to be somewhat soulless. It appears that there are more long-term working occupants who seem to use it as home (I assume to take advantage of the seasonal rates for living in that part of the world, with only 10 day a year non-occupancy regulation it's a cheap way of living near Crawley) . We were also advised by staff not to walk along the road outside the camp due to the amount off traffic, so confined to the site! It was fascinating to watch the aircraft, but it's not top of my list next time I'm that way.

Noisy, and I do not mean the planes !

I stayed here for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday). The welcome and wardens were great and the pitch level and tidy. All facilities where spotless and in good order (very nice hot shower). There is noise from the planes taking off, but given the location this was not an issue. The main issue with the site is the location of he entrance to the Caravan storage area. It holds 500 caravans / motor homes and the entrance to this is on the far side of the site. This means you have a constant stream of caravans / cars / motor homes coming and going. The cleaning area is on the site just outside the gates so again there was a constant stream of people cleaning (jet washing ) their caravans and motor homes (one with a petrol driven jet washer that made a racket for over 45 minutes. I raised this with the staff onsite, but they said the rues are they can clean between 08:00 - 18:00 everyday and can use a generator / petrol powered cleaner. The cars coming and going did also not seem to be sticking to the 5 MPH / 1st gear rue I was told about when I registered. Given the noise and "traffic" flowing through the site, I would not say this is a relaxing site or suitable for small children. I would suggest moving the entrance to the storage to a location nearer to the site entrance, to avoid the need for the users to go right through the site to collect and also move the cleaning facilities to the inside on the storage area away from pitches.
