Just sublime

My parents used to come to this site, as did my grandfather, now I know why! Magnificent views, friendly locals, interesting towns and, walks. Our stay began with the welcome from Ann and Martin, who offered every help as my wife and son are both disabled. We got on like a house on fire enjoying the odd meal at the harbour inn which is walkable from the site.  The towns of Wigtown (Scotland s book town) and the isle of whithorn are worth a visit as is port William which has great views of Luce bay Peace and quiet at this site allows you to recharge your batteries! This is truly a special place!

Perfect!

I thought of writing a terrible review for this site, in the hope that other members would give it a miss and it would remain as quiet and serene as it has been on every occasion we have visited. Even though the site is a mammoth 370 miles from our base in South Wales, it is worth the effort! It has to be our favourite site. The site itself is immaculate and the location and views (if you can get on the harbour side of the split site) are magnificent. This was our third stay at Garlieston and we once again cancelled a forward booking to give us a couple more days here. The Wardens are lovely and couldn't be more helpful - the site is a credit to them. Apart from the views, there are lovely walks in the area. A coastal path runs for many miles, although we only got as far as Rigg Bay (about 2 miles walk). You can also walk through the grounds of Galloway House and that is definitely worth it too. The local pub (The Harbour Inn) is a two minute walk and the locals are friendly. It changes hands in the summer and the new owners are already starting to make improvements. We are looking forward to coming back in July (already booked) to try their new menu (currently a tad sparse to say the least). There is no need to worry, as a local butcher and a fishmonger both call at the site on Tuesdays. I can recommend both. As Motorhomers with a large 6 wheeler, we tend to look for sites where we can park up and not have to use the vehicle during our stay. We thought that Garlieston may be a bit too remote for this, but we were wrong. It's lovely - quiet, picturesque and very very relaxing. Now for the downside, although it is pretty insignificant. Some of the pitches towards the rear of the site are not great for those with satellite dishes, as tall trees interfere with reception. Apart from that, I can think of nothing bad to say about this wonderful site.

Wonderful Start to Caravanning

Just back from our first weekend in our new caravan and we struck lucky with our first choice of site. A great welcome, all the help we could ask for and a lovely, peaceful location right on the waterside. We'll definitely be back??

Virgin motorhomers

This was our first motorhome site experience so nowhere else to compare it to. Our only comment is the positioning of the water tap. We have a 6 berth van and there was no way we could reverse to get back out! With a bit more experience it should be easier but we felt it could have been in a more accessible position.

A hidden gem

If you want to get away from it all this is the place to come to, plenty of walks all set in stunning scenery. The wardens, (why do we call them wardens, they aren`t in charge of a prison) work hard at making your stay as comfortable as possible, helpful with local knowledge, keep the site and facilities spotless and are very welcoming. They certainly set a high standard for other sites to follow. Garlieston is definitely on our favourites list.

Beautiful location

This site is in a lovely location, the wardens keep it spotless and are very helpful. The pub seems to open when they feel like and need a few lessons in hospitality and manners.

Loved it

A great location at harbour's edge, compact and peaceful. All-you-could-eat grub at the local - for amazing price. Not that you can say the same for CC fees!

Hidden Gem...Just how it should be.

We normally do the Scottish Borders,Lakes and Northumberland but this time we decided to come over to the West Coast of Scotland for a change and was so glad that we did, The site was so easy to find, no tricky roads to contend with...phew!!! We arrived late tea time on the Monday and we we're greeted by Ann, polite and friendly so that was a good start, we got to pitch up on the Harbour side and the view out onto the Harbour and beyond was gorgeous so another positive..We were fortunate that the weather was kind to us (as it has its own Micro Climate according to Martin) there are plenty of places to go see and explore whether on foot or in the car.The site is beautifully maintained.....credit to the Wardens, the facilities are spotless and are more than adequate and we both hope to come back and explore so more...Thank you for Having us...
