Recent stay

Stayed for 4 nights over the recent Bank Holiday weekend. A well maintained, clean and tidy site with very friendly Wardens. Short walk into town, although it is very quiet, with not a lot going on. There are a couple of small shops and the Harbour Inn which is good for reasonably priced meals.

RELAXING

We are never let down by this site, have never come across such attentive helpful wardens as these two. Ann and Martin go the extra mile to help nothing is too much trouble. The site is kept lovely and clean and the flowers at the entrance are a nice touch. If there was ever a reward for best Caravan Club wardens it should go to these two. Other wardens we have come across could do with a few lessons from these two. THANKYOU

A hidden gem

We have been coming to Garlieston for several years always a warm welcome from the wardens who are extremely helpful. We love watching the wild life around the beach & harbour. A walk to Rigg Bay is a must its so unspoilt as is the Isle of Whithorn with spectacular views out to sea. As a motorhomer the pitches are good sized & you have the option of being on the sea front or in the wooded area. If you're looking for peace & tranquility then look no further this is the site for you.

Views to die for

What a beautiful site views from your pitch over the bay are stunning, the wardens are always there for any questions re the local area. There are some lovely coastal walks in either direction and have some surprising connections to the Normandy landings during WW2 at Rigg Bay.The local shop is just 100 yards outside main gate for papers and local produce, even closer is the local pub the Anchor Inn you must try the Steak pie,and the beer is cheap, all in all great site Galloway house gardens are nearby and free to roam around at your leisure.

Hidden gem

Superb little site in a quiet, stunning area of SW Scotland.  Both wardens very friendly and helpful during our visit.  We chose the walled garden for our 1st time in Garlieston, site well kept and the ice cream from the reception is magic, so much so we're buying it at home in the local Tesco ;-) Quiet roads around area allowed me to sample a few of the Machar cycle routes that take in Whithorn & Isle of Whithorn (red) or Wigton & Wauphill (orange).   This is a chillout site, local pub, post office & shop not far from site as is the bowling green that takes visitors.

Great Site

This is a great site, the wardens are very helpful. The location next to the water is brilliant. Walks from the park are plentiful. Toilet blocks are very clean and showers have plenty hot water. If you have a motorhome and don't want to leave the site bring supplies with you, there are two shops but are basic. Overall brilliant.

Just sublime

My parents used to come to this site, as did my grandfather, now I know why! Magnificent views, friendly locals, interesting towns and, walks. Our stay began with the welcome from Ann and Martin, who offered every help as my wife and son are both disabled. We got on like a house on fire enjoying the odd meal at the harbour inn which is walkable from the site.  The towns of Wigtown (Scotland s book town) and the isle of whithorn are worth a visit as is port William which has great views of Luce bay Peace and quiet at this site allows you to recharge your batteries! This is truly a special place!

Perfect!

I thought of writing a terrible review for this site, in the hope that other members would give it a miss and it would remain as quiet and serene as it has been on every occasion we have visited. Even though the site is a mammoth 370 miles from our base in South Wales, it is worth the effort! It has to be our favourite site. The site itself is immaculate and the location and views (if you can get on the harbour side of the split site) are magnificent. This was our third stay at Garlieston and we once again cancelled a forward booking to give us a couple more days here. The Wardens are lovely and couldn't be more helpful - the site is a credit to them. Apart from the views, there are lovely walks in the area. A coastal path runs for many miles, although we only got as far as Rigg Bay (about 2 miles walk). You can also walk through the grounds of Galloway House and that is definitely worth it too. The local pub (The Harbour Inn) is a two minute walk and the locals are friendly. It changes hands in the summer and the new owners are already starting to make improvements. We are looking forward to coming back in July (already booked) to try their new menu (currently a tad sparse to say the least). There is no need to worry, as a local butcher and a fishmonger both call at the site on Tuesdays. I can recommend both. As Motorhomers with a large 6 wheeler, we tend to look for sites where we can park up and not have to use the vehicle during our stay. We thought that Garlieston may be a bit too remote for this, but we were wrong. It's lovely - quiet, picturesque and very very relaxing. Now for the downside, although it is pretty insignificant. Some of the pitches towards the rear of the site are not great for those with satellite dishes, as tall trees interfere with reception. Apart from that, I can think of nothing bad to say about this wonderful site.
