Cycling and motorhoming heaven

An immaculate site in a stunning setting. Easy walks along the coast and inland. A network of undulating roads ideal for 66yr olds cyclist. Quiet roads and easy parking in towns and villages makes moving around in 25ft motorhome easy. Steampacket at the Isle of Whithorn is a must visit for us.

Gem of a site

We spent three super nights at this gem of a site in June 16. The site is split into two halves, one overlooking the beautiful bay, the other in a tranquil walled garden. We opted for a pitch overlooking the bay with gorgeous views. The site is well maintained with toilet blocks serving both halves, so not too far to walk. Facilities are up to the usual caravan club standards and the wardens were extremely helpful and friendly. There is not much to do in Garlieston itself, but it does have the wonderful Harbour Inn (the only pub in town!) however the ale and food is top notch, you will get a warm and friendly from staff and locals alike. We like walking, and the area surrounding the site will not disappoint. Wildlife is also a big plus point in the area. Great place, highly recommended.

Peaceful, Clean, Friendly, Perfect

Recently visited Garlieston for a few days away. We couldn't have picked a better site. A warm welcome greeted us from the wardens, who were friendly, helpful, and run a beautiful site. The whole site, and the whole village, was spotlessly clean and tidy. I've never been somewhere so quiet and peaceful, and it was the ideal location for a quiet break. The locals were all very friendly, as were their dogs! The village has a pub, The Harbour Inn. From the first time we went in we were warmly welcomed, and ended up having a couple of good nights with the locals. Food was nice, drinks reasonable, and the people priceless. This is the perfect site to get away from it all and relax. The whole place felt safe, and I didn't lock my car or the caravan while there. Garlieston isn't really a site for children, as there is very little to keep them entertained. Mobile signal while there was almost non-existent on 3, but had enough for calls and texts on O2, and some data connection on Vodafone. The pub has free wifi which was pretty quick.

In a beautiful spot.,

If you're looking for a few days of peace and quiet in a lovely location then this site is for you. There are some lovely walks on costal paths and lots to see just a short drive away. The site is spotlessly clean and the wardens are lovely people. There are flowers everywhere when you arrive and the site looks warm and inviting.  We will visit again I'm sure.

Lovely relaxing stay

All credit to the wardens here, the site was absolutely spotless and the flowers were amazing. We stayed in the walled garden which perhaps isn't as popular as the sea front site but it was quiet and pleasant and fulfilled our needs perfectly. The village is pretty, the beach perfect for dog walks and we enjoyed exploring the area - we found plenty to do for five days. Pub in the village is handy, food is good and reasonably priced. Will definately stay here again, we felt to have had a relaxing break and went home refreshed.

Not well suited to motorcaravans

This is a very pleasant site in a nice region with a pub nearby. As a motorhome owner I found the facilities inconvenient. There is no where on the harbour site to fill up with water without being told off. There is a motorhome service point in the walled garden area the other side of a road and through a closed gate. It is a no through route so you have to turn round to get out again. Not very convenient if all you want to do is fill up with water. The site is also very compact, so you must be happy to be crammed in. I would not rule out returning out of season, but it would not be at the top of my list.

Beside the seaside (well almost).

We stayed here for the first time having spent time in and around Glasgow, on The Isle Of Mull and The Mull Of Kintyre. Heading south we visited Dumfries and the picturesque village of New Abbey and over nighted here. I had hoped for a pitch by the sea but was tucked away at the back of a walled garden as the site was virtually full. This did not spoil our one night stay as Garlieston was worth the visit. Slightly more cramped than the average Club site the pitches were level and the facilities were spotless. The warden was so apologetic in not being able to offer us a sea view but that speaks for itself as the site seems so popular. We will come back here.

What a great site

We happened up on this site on our recent trip around Scotland, this was the last site in Scotland we stayed on having worked our way around the coast starting in Edinburgh. If this had been our starting point then I'm not sure we would have have got much further. We had a lovely welcome from Anne & Martin, the site is just fantastic and spotlessly clean, hopefully we can return sometime in the future.

Garlieston Caravan Site

We have been here a few times, but this is the first time we have been on the main site with its views of the bay. Anne and Martin are two dedicated wardens and are very friendly and helpful. They have created a beautiful floral display at the entrance and the whole site and facilities give evidence of how much they care about the site. There are many things to do here. Golf nearby, fishing from the harbour wall, and great walks from the site.We spent time browsing the many second hand bookshops of Wigtown, walking in Glen Trool and Wood of Cree. Newton Stewart has a Sainsburys and an Aldis, in fact we picked up a good set of cheap of binoculars in Aldis so that we don't have to share the ones we keep in the caravan. The local hotels in Garlieston and Bladnoch are worth a visit. Further afield however, Tasty Bites in Port William provides bacon butties to die for!
