Campsite next to the beach

An August bank holiday stay, the site is in a an excellent position to discover all the different beaches in the area. Freshwater East is calm and sheltered, Freshwater west is quite wavy and good for surfing. Barafundle is a great sheltered beach. Dogs seem to be allowed on most if not all the beaches in the area. Most car parks at the beaches are national trust. The site had excellent WiFi coverage throughout the whole site, it does go a bit slow in the evening, and is at its fastest in the early morning. No mobile phone coverage at all on the site, you’d have to go to the beach or the top of the hill for a signal. The rear of the site is quietest, at the top for families with kids using the playground, at the bottom for members wishing to stay clear of the kids and the playground. Toilets are usual high quality. Two toilet blocks. Would recommend the Stackpole Inn for food, not cheap but excellent quality. 5 min drive, 20 min cycle or an hour walk. 20 minutes from Pembroke Dock with retail parks and Tesco/Asda. Smaller shops and a co-op in Pembroke which is about 12 min drive away.

An enjoyable mid summer break

We last visited this site about 10 years ago, and decided to come again during school holidays with our 14 year old granddaughter and the dogs. We pitched at the far end of the site on the second level and had good pitch which was quiet. The facilities were as ever spotless with good showers. the wardens came round in the mornings and afternoons to clear the waste bins and hose down the chemical loo disposal area, and were very friendly. The beach near is great with good swimming and Barafundle is only an hours walk over the coastal path. The only pub at the top of the hill doesn't take reservations during the holiday times so we had to wait 40 minutes for the order to be taken, but the food then came quickly and was very good. Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Freshwater East and the surrounding area. So much so that our granddaughter was asking about next year's booking !!!!

First time visit

Having travelled 6 hours to this site which is not sign posted until the end of the drive way we arrived at 12.35pm to be told to get off site until 1pm. The warden was most rude and told us didn’t we see the cones? The cones were behind the club sign. (On other days the cones were placed on the roadway.) There was no greeting at all. Then at 1pm when we did check in and we questioned that we had booked the correct pitch we had a short sharp reply again. In all our visits to sites we have never experienced such rudeness. Throughout the week of our stay these wardens are the only wardens we have never seen around the site doing various jobs. We can count on 1 hand the times we saw a warden and they never spoke to us. The information hut was useless. These wardens need to visit some of your other sites to see how ‘good practice ‘ is done. We shall never return to this site and there was a lot of disgruntled visitors.

Comment from the Club:

Thank you for your review. The site staff at Freshwater East have been in touch as they work hard to ensure all members have a wonderful time at the site and are always helpful, greet everyone with a smile and work on site each day, often stopping to chat to members. With regards to early arrivals, the site has a 1pm arrival time which is due to the site access. Only one vehicle can pass through the entrance at a time. There is a sign which states no arrivals before 1pm and there is also a large car park where members can park if they arrive early. We hope this clears up any confusion with regards to arrival. if you ever have any concrs when staying on a Club site we welcome members feedback and the best way to get this to the right department  is via our feedback, complaint and compliments procedure which can be found on our website here: https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/contact/compliments-and-complaints/

No internet connection

We stayed on a serviced pitch on this site from the 16th August. We had to cut our holiday short because there was no WiFi available on the lower section of pitches which incorporated the service pitches. It was advertised as a 'Silver' rating on the WiFi.

A Good All Rounder

We dropped into Freshwater East for four nights on a tour around Pembrokeshire. We were a bit reticent given it was school holidays and knew that the site would be busy. As previously mentioned, if you arrive ahead of one o clock, you will have to wait in the pay and display carpark just outside the site entrance. The site was nearly full but we went onto the lower level at the very back of the site which turned out to be quite peaceful - go for the pitches on the right if you want the sunshine (the ones to the left were in shade). If you haven't got children and there is a choice, stay away from the pitches by the play area - it was mayhem in the evening!! Dog walk is small and ok but quite slippy after rainfall and as is the way - full of kids who seemed to be using it as an off road track - who knows why?? However, to balance this, there is plenty of walking from the site and the beach allows dogs. There is a Coastal Cruiser bus service that stops outside the site which may be of interest to those who want a 'lift out' somewhere and then walk back. Basic shopping at Pembroke which was quite a pleasant town to wander around.

Nice site, but won’t be back.

We have just returned home from a 9 night break with our daughter and grandkids at Freshwater East. The site is up to the expected Club standards and the facilities very clean (although only three toilets in the mens’ block lead to some queuing). Our welcome was good, notwithstanding the problems of a one o’clock earliest booking in and the ensuing bun fight at the entrance which was handled well by the staff. Not so good was the attitude of one male warden who told us that my daughter’s car would have to go on the public pay and display well outside the site, this despite several pitches with up to three cars. A more pleasant lady later came by and told me where we could park the second car on the pitch and it was booked in. The speed of some members through this site was incredible, slowing down ( sometimes) for speed humps before accelerating to the next is NOT acceptable. I found it mildly amusing to hear the bump and clatter from the Caravans being towed too fast over these humps by some, I would hate to think what a mess ensued inside. I feared for the safety of both children and the many dogs on site. My grandson was not happy when I told him he couldn’t play ball ANYWHERE on the site, and when he and his sister found a piece of grass away from other Caravans to throw a soft rubber frisbee ring, the occupant of the nearest pitch told them to stop. Good for families? Yes, but only outside the site. Maybe the Club should add children to the “all dogs must be on a lead” rule.

A holiday to remember!

We visited Freshwater last week for our first break in South Wales with the caravan. We stayed six nights and wished we could have booked more. The site was clean and well cared for, with excellent shower blocks. The neighbouring beach was fantastic and very well used without being overcrowded. We visited many places but our favourite was a boat trip from Tenby to Caldey which was so beautiful and clean we even swam for a couple of hours before taking one of the regular boats back to Tenby. My own opinion is that the holiday was probably one of our best ever. Thanks to all the staff! Ann and Peter,

Nice site

We only stayed for one night. The site is very long. The shower & toilet blocks were spotless & looked like they had been refurbished. The only disappointment was yapping dogs from other visitors. We would revisit though.

Excellent site and facilities only spoilt by barking dogs

Wonderful location, friendly helpful staff. Great location for exploring the coast. lots of hills though. Not so relaxing on site though as there were several dogs nearby that were taking it in turns to yap which eventually drives you insane! I am baffled as to how the owners put up with it. On the plus side all of our neighbours had dogs that were absolutely fine.

Lovely site in a great location

We had a week at Freshwater East last week. The site is in a great location within a short walk of a lovely beach and the coastal path. We had our 2 dogs with us so it suited us perfectly. The site is quiet and clean and the wardens were all really friendly. Most people on the site seemed to have dogs because it’s ideal for dog walking. We were aware of a dog yapping but that could happen anywhere, most of the dogs and owners were well behaved and friendly! We were lucky with the weather, we had a lovely sunny week which always helps but there’s lots of places to visit from here. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to visit again.
