If you view this site as no more then a stopover then its fine as its very well located for the main trunk roads in the area and a doddle to find. If its an actual holiday you want then I'm afraid its a bit grim.
The roads previously mentioned are very close - you can see one of them - and hence the background noise is constant. The facilitities whilst spotlessly clean are very dated and inadequate. I think I can spit faster than the showers deliver water. There is nothing for children here and the service points are very old fashioned. All in all not a site we will be returning to unless we have a ferry to catch.
End of season stay
We stayed for a few days mid-October. The woman on the Reception was very welcoming and helpful. The toilet and washroom facilities were clean and well maintained but I'm not sure that there would be sufficient capacity to cope with the site when its full. As the season was coming to an end the site was relatively quiet but with an abundance of space for walking. The site was ideal for us as we have a dog who prefers not to have to deal with people and other dogs. There was a race day on while we were there and we found the racecourse facilities to be very good. The Haldon Forest diner is a short walk and serves a good english breakfast. The only downside is the traffic noise from the A38, but it didn't bother us too much as it just becomes a background hum. We will definitely visit again.
Very relaxing and great location
We have stopped here before. We do not use the facilities as we use our caravan shower etc.
The only thing I do not like is there is no internet
I do think in this day and age this facility should be added.
Other than that, great site and location, wardens are very friendly and helpful
Tired site.
This site has older style facilities than most club sites we've visited and it isn't quite so manicured but the lower price reflects that. Having said that the facilities were clean and the wardens really helpful and friendly. It is situated in the middle of the racecourse and has nice views across open heathland and woods to the south. It's about 15 mins drive to the nearest Exeter park and ride and Exeter is worth exploring. Haldon Hill forest park is great place for walking and bike trails. I would definitely return to this site.

Fab
Fab site, been here twice in a month, loved the horse racing, excellent site for traveling around , will deffo be going again next year...2017
We enjoyed ourselves here
We have had a full year and this was our main and only significant break so we needed peace, rest and no work.
The site was great the traffic noise was not intrusive, access was fine. We had the car so transport was not an issue for us. We got lots of peace and great long dog walks.
Yes it is exposed - the rain cause tow large pools on the awning roof and one night the wind collapsed it but it is lightweight and not lashed with storm straps.
Having said that it rained mostly at nights and the wind was at night too. Days mainly gloriously sunny and warm.
The toilet block is ripe for an update but spotless clean and well maintained just like the whole site.
The wardens were friendly and efficient.
What more could you want?
The test is would you go again? Yes and soon even though a fair way from where we live
Good stopover but.......
If you have not been to Exeter Racecourse before it is as well you bear in mind that it has small and limited facilities, it is in a high, exposed place and as such is windy and, between two dual carriageways so noisy, too. There are only a few hard standings although the grass areas are very firm. But the real bugbear is that unless you have a car it is very difficult to get anywhere from here. Devonshire County Council in their wisdom will not allow an Exeter bound bus to stop near the site so you have to get one going in the opposite direction then change at Chudleigh to come back past the site and with year long roadworks in the City that transpires to be a one and a half hour journey! Similarly a journey to Dawlish via Newton Abbott took two hours! We could have walked it in that time but it would mean wandering along busy and dangerous lanes. I am writing to DCC to suggest a practical way in which they could allow Northbound buses to stop on the A38. Don't hold your breath!
Exeter racecourse review
We stayed here for 4 nights from 23rd September. Friendly welcome from Wardens who keep the site spotless. Facilities are very basic..shower was just a dribble so decided to use our own. Great to be able to walk the 2 miles around the racecourse. Car boot sale every Sunday seemed well attended but not near the caravan site so doesn't interfere with anyone. Just over a mile away is the Haldon Forest, where there are numerous cycle and walking trails; a cafe and the treetop adventure - Go Ape. ideal for families. We used the cycle trails and Go Ape, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Definitely will return.
Ideal for seeing the surrounding area
A really good level site with friendly wardens. The facilities are spotless. It's close enough to Exeter to get the nearby Park & Ride into the city. It's only a short drive down to the coast and Weymouth. A typical seaside resort, not tacky, but with plenty to do, and a good range of shops close by.

Back Again
Stopped off for a few days on our way back from Cornwall. There is road noise from the A38 but with the wind and rain we experienced during our stay it wasn't noticeable! We were not there on a Sunday so missed the car boot sale (just as well). You can walk all round the inside of the race track just takes a bit of time as we get older. Toilet block is a little old but is kept very clean, we could use a hairdryer in the ladies please.
