I decided to choose another local location for a weekend getaway. I found the situation of the site right in the middle of the racetrack amazing. I loved the dog walk looping around the 2 mile track which was perfect as was a tarmacked path which was great for my sons scooter. It would have been fantastic to have been there when the horse racing was on as you would be closer than those who had paid for tickets to enter, literally fence side seats !!
You can walk into Haldon Forrest itself although the good old English weather stopped us from doing that.
Everyone on site were lovely and friendly. The wardens were fantastic and welcoming and keep a very tidy site. The showers, ok aren't the most modern, but were very warm and very clean. We definitely be returning and most definitely on a race day !!
Great stopover point
We were taking the Grandchildren away for half term and didn't want to get caught in traffic on the Saturday and the Bank Holiday Monday so decided to travel down on the Sunday, we were booked in to a site in Devon just a few miles down the road from the Bank holiday Monday, so decided this site would be perfect for us. Unfortunately we didn't have the handbook, and hadn't read the directions, with us so missed the entrance, be warned. Once we got to the site we found the warden extremely helpful and found a good reasonably level pitch. Although busy the site was not noisy at all and our youngest Grandson, aged 9, soon made some friends to play with. The general feel of the site is very relaxed and the facilities were adequate, how excited can get over toilets :) On the whole we enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be using this site again in the future.
Great site in interesting location.
Stayed here for 2 nights using it for a stopover on way to Cornwall. Site in middle of racecourse, an interesting location, shame their were no racehorses to see but it wasn't race days, you cant have everything.
Toilets clean but basic, no privacy cubicals for washing but where clean and tidy.
Site on top of a hill so is a little exposed but the views are good, one bonus is you can walk right around the racetrack no excuse for not getting exercise.
Excellent for a stopover site to the southwest so would definitely use it again.
A Racing Certainty!
We chose this site recently to use as a base for visiting the coast and moor. It's central location makes it perfect. Though the facilities are a bit dated they are clean and very well looked after. We were on the open part of the site which is quite exposed should you be unlucky enough to have a windy stay. There are also a few pitches in a little glade with trees. Four legged friends will love the site as there are plenty of places to walk. There was a race meeting while we were there which was entertaining even if you don't go in you can hear the commentary and see the racing.
There was some road noise but not enough to be annoying.
Be very careful on the approach from the A38 going south. It is a very fast three lane road and the junction to come off for the racecourse has no slip road, so you have to slow right down to make the left turn, it's rather disconcerting to look in the rear view mirror and see someone screaming up behind you! Similarly when you join the A38, there is again no slip road, so you have to put your foot down and go! Not easy for a towing vehicle or Motorhome!
Great site , great wardens
Visited Exeter site for a central location for the coast and the moors, ideal site for both ,extended my visit as such a handy location .wardens melony and Dave(welsh.!)im Gareth..! really friendly and helpfull a real no stress site, super clean & tidy..bring your bike for a ride round race course 2 miles i think.. slight traffic noise am. But quieter in time for your cot..!ADVICE- if using sat nav for first visit after climbing steep hill near end of trip look for race course sign then a INSTANTsharp left turn ..! I passed it...! All in all a great olde school site , room to breate & will visit soon again..Gareth

Easter break
Just got back from a 4 day break at Exeter racecourse site. It was good weather a bit chilly but nice in the sun. Facilities are a bit dated but spotless and lovely and warm. The road is quite close but the road noise was not enough to bother us. We were with our motorhome and with our family also in motorhome the grandsons enjoyed it very much plenty of space fo bikes scooters and ball games. There is also a dog walk on site. The wardens were very welcoming and friendly and they put on an Easter egg hunt which went down well with all the kids on site. A good base for exploring the surrounding countryside and other resorts. Bus stop right outside the campsite.

Basic but very good
This site is basic but I love it. No club house, no big reception, no posh facilities. However, what it does have is wide open space, clean adequate facilities, some hard standings, peace and quiet. At this site children have to make their own fun. There is plenty of room to run and play, there is scrub and bushes to hide and make dens and a virtually flat tarmac inner road to the inside of the race course which they can walk, run or ride bikes around. My nieces and nephew love it but those used to other things might not. Nearby there is also Go Ape 🦍 and the mountain biking park. For dog walkers there is plenty of area to walk or you can go off into the surrounding woodland. Your dog will love it. For shopping convenience Within walking distance there is a useful Spar shop at the A38 garage. Negative points, being close to the A38 the site has easy access but there is some road noise. I don't consider it to be excessive but it is there. The facilities are basic (but very clean) and the water pressure is not great in the showers.
We live close to this site and I love it for a weekend break.
excellant site
we tend to use this site on our way down or back to holiday in Cornwall from Gloucestershire, very helpful wardens nothing is too much trouble, highly recommended site.
Ideal stopover - or longer
Situated right in the middle of Exeter racecourse and on top of a hill this site has 180 dgs. of sky with no interruptions.
Wide open spaces abound with a terrific dog walk along the entire length of the racecourse perimeter road - I guess the site will get really busy during racing events.
Facilities are adequate, spotless and heated ( most welcome last week). Pitches are well spaced and hard standings are flat and wide.
Due to its location the site may seem a bit austere but it's got all you need - road noise may impinge but it's location of the A38 and adjacency to M5 is the site's key feature.
Could I mention that the motorhome greywater dump is hard to find and difficult to operate as it's been driven over a few times and the lid is stuck - needs to be changed to the vehicle width grid type.
A few days at Exeter Racecourse site
We enjoyed our stay at Exeter Racecourse. Having read some of the reviews on here it is just as well that we are all different! We arrived late but had a lovely, friendly welcome from the Wardens who must have been working all day and been ready for a rest. We were not far from the A38 but in our unit we could not hear it at all and had a great night's sleep. The shower block was basic but spotlessly clean and warm. We had only paid £14 a night for a pitch with electricity here. We have paid much more at other sites with more modern facilities but the same in every other way. We were central to so much here, we went somewhere different each day and will have to return to do the rest. It was great for dog walking, 2 miles on the tarmac path round the racecourse when wet and paths criss crossing the heathland when it got drier. Haldon Forest for walks and cycle rides just down the road. We had a lovely time and will be back.
