Always a great place to be!

We love Edinburgh and we love this site, having visited several times. I endorse all the positive reviews on here about the site and Edinburgh itself and can't add anything more except for the shuttle taxi - on site during our latest visit was a large taxi/people carrier which took us from the site to the West End and picked us up again at an agreed time during the afternoon. The driver Graham gave an interesting narrative on places as we journeyed in and as 'seniors' with an elderly dog we found it cheaper than a taxi and more convenient than the bus. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Fantastic Location for trips in and around City.

We spent three nights here, really friendly welcome and a nicely laid out site with easy access to City Centre. Local taxi / minibus service gets you into the City with little problem and at reasonable cost. Don't miss the Royal Yacht Brittania - great trip and a chance to see how the other half live. Free parking on site - expensive restaurant on board but oh so worthwhile! Lovely river walk nearby. Close to Edinburgh airport so there is some aeroplane noise but it didn't spoil our stay. Be warned Arthurs Seat (fantastic viewpoint) closed to traffic on Sundays and some bank holidays but if you are fit you can always walk it!! Castle, Holyrood and Scottish Parliament all worth a visit. Great shopping and loads of restaurants and cafes - we just loved it. We should have liked more time so will have to return another day.

A really good site on the edge of the city

We used the site for 5 nights on a visit to see Rhianon Giddens in concert at the Queens Hall. The staff on the site were brilliant, probably the best we have come across on any site. Although the planes were noisy we loved them as there are no airports near where we live and the different planes fascinated us. The facilities on site were clean and well kept with plenty of hot water. The pitches were very generous and well-spaced out. We couldn't fault anything with the site. It was easy to get into the city centre using the 27 bus. We used the shortcut path during the day but in the dark walked back along Marine Drive - a torch is useful. The site was also well situated to reach the Forth Road Bridge and we spent a good day exploring the coast up to St Andrews. We also went to the nearby village of Cramond where there was an interesting walk and a pub with well kept Samuel Smiths Bitter and tasty food. I guess the key question is would you visit again and the answer is an unreserved "yes"

Review of Edinburgh caravan club site March 17

Had a lovely stay at the above site in March. Wardens warm and welcoming and could not have been more helpful. Site kept scrupulously clean. The road is quite busy but this is to be expected if you want to stay this close to the city. But we were glad of a previous review that mentioned which pitches backed the road so we could avoid them. Pity England do not have an agreement with Scotland re bus travel passes for over 60's as was a real pain remembering to have exact fare especially for someone like me not used to carrying cash! Site reception kindly provide change. Lovely to be able to access the lovely walk along the seafront so easily.

Revisiting family and places in Edinburgh

The site is relatively easy to find as long as you follow the directions as stated by the site. Arrival time was at our convenience so we were able to get on site before the usual 1.00pm stipulation which was really convenient as we had only travelled from Strathclyde. The staff were friendly and pointed out where there was available pitches but advised that towards the rear of the site and behind trees there was a football pitch which was used at weekends and obviously road noise on the opposite side of the site. We chose a pitch not far from the toilet block which had ample space and privacy. There is a little noise from planes landing and taking off from Edinburgh airport but this did not effect our stay. Quiet at night time. A short walk to catch the local bus which at £1.60 single trip to Edinburgh was excellent value, and the buses ran every 12 minutes! There is also a local mini bus which can be booked but we didn't avail ourselves of this service. A short drive from the site and there is a lovely walk to Cramond following the estuary. We will definitely return.

An oasis within easy reach of Edinburgh

I agree with many of the other reviewers, a typical high quality Caravan Club site. Very helpful wardens etc. However since we last stopped here a number of years ago, the public transport that stopped outside the gate has gone. Buses to Leith and Edinburgh are frequent and cost £1.60 each way or £4.00 for a day pass. We found these easy to use and understand. There is a Morrisons 5 min drive away or 30 min walk. We have a m/home and wished we had brought our bikes as the route into Leith looked quite safe. Leith is worth an explore in the old dockland area with good pubs and restuarants emerging with its regeneration. This is on the bus route into Edinburgh. The short cut along the side of the site towards the site should only be used in daylight. We returned one day in twilight to find a man relaxing in the grass next to the fence nursing a number of cans of Tennants lager! This would not stop us using this site again when visiting Edinburgh. Just be concious of the fact that it is close to an area with social problems.

My first visit to a club site.

I'll do this chronologically. The check in procedure was very easy and the lady who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. There was lots of information given to me which was beneficial to a newcomer. The pitches are spacious and even though there was a six nations home game on that weekend, the site didn't feel crowded. The facilities for water and waste were excellent and won't be far from wherever you park. I didn't use the showers or toilets, but I'd guess they're spotless like the rest of the site. I've read the reviews about the overhead noise and road noise, all I'll say is yes there is some, but get over it, you'd rather hear that than be deaf, it's only temporary and there's far worse things in the world to get wound up about, go wild camping if you want solitude. There's information at reception about Edinburgh's attractions and we used a free cycle route map from there. There's plenty of Sustrans cycle paths nearby and a Firth of Forth cycle path to cycle on too. Really good if you like that type of cycling. Try the beach cafe nearby at Cramond. Quirky and great coffee and views. The buses to Edinburgh were excellent. A £4 day ticket is the way to go. All the route info and timetables from reception with a smile. I can understand some being wary of the walk from the bus stop to the site at night. You'll need a torch or the the light from your phone if you use the path at the side of the site. I didn't see anything to put me off using it. The risk of crime is something that you have to deal with on a personal level. I wasn't bothered by using the path at all. So that's it. A good start to my club membership, I'd go there again and would recommend it.

Well maintained site, but strange surrounding areas

If you simply want a base to park your Motorhome or Caravan to visit Edinburgh or the nearby docked Royal Yacht Britannia then this is ideal. But......... Firsty the site is situated directly under a main flight path for Edinburgh Airport, aeroplanes still coming over after 11.30pm at night. Behind the hedges at the rear of the site are football fields, particularly noisy on Early Sunday Mornings. We personally did get the feel its a quiet place to sit outside your van in a deckchair. The otherside of the site is on a noisy roadside. Secondly if you decide to take the Public Bus, the bus stop for this is about 15 min walk. ( Bus fare is a reasonable £1.70 ) We are did this walk Twice, beware the path was strune with Dog Poo, its also abit isolated in parts. After speaking to a local Taxi driver, DONT take this walk at night. It borders in its later parts a real problem and troubled housing estate ( Muirhouse )

Lovely site

Second time I have stayed here & great location for dogs, easy to get to promenade & you can walk as far as you fancy. So I would probably think this is also good for families. Site is lovely & a little hint - park in the Silverknowles municipal golf course car park & buses stop there for Edinburgh City Centre. Apparently it is ok to do so according to bus driver. The only reason I didn't give full score - It is very noisy on road side from early in morning - unfortunately right where you pay £3.60 more to have a serviced pitch. So next visit I will have a std pitch.
