Great weekend at this site. Fab that you get access to the site from 9am. Pleasant site, friendly wardens, clean toilets and showers, if now a little dated. As other reviewers have said there is some road noise and a steady stream of planes heading into Edinburgh Airport. Fantastic bus service takes you into Edinburgh City Centre within 20 minutes, or you can book the minibus direct from the site. Good dog walk on site, but you can walk miles along the prom about 10 minutes from the site. Looking forward to returning Thanks
This is the third time we have visited. Nice site well up to the usual Caravan and Motor home Club standards.
For us a particular plus is the minibus service which runs from the site to the centre of the city half hourly for most of the day. Excellent commentary by the driver as we went into Edinburgh, well worth the £6 each return fare.
I have been at this site hundreds of times over the years and the site is always fantastic but twice in as many weeks i have been away and my time away and not just mines is ruined by people leaving there dog or dogs for hours and hours alone in either there caravan or motor home and the dogs bark or howl from the moment that they are left until there cruel and inconsiderate owners return
The caravan club should and must display notices informing pet owners that under no circumstances are dogs to be left alone for any length of time , this rant has in no way has any reflection on the Edinburgh caravan club site as which i originally stated was fantastic all the time 👍
Ideal site if you are a plane spotter - otherwise, learn to ignore the noise and smell from the planes 1,000 to 2,000 feet overhead as they come in to land at the nearby airport. All day and all night. Day time there can be a plane every 5 minutes. Night time you have just got back to sleep and 15 minutes later over another one comes. No mention of this on the webpage for the site Planes aside, it was a spotless and well run site.
We stayed here for 4 nights from 26th May 2017. Upon arrival the wardens noticed we had some bikes on the back of our motorhome and informed us that there had been recent thefts of bikes on the site. They offered to lock up our bikes in a secure garage at the back of the Wardens Office which we accepted. This was a great relief to us and didn't have to worry about the bikes being left unattended on the site. During our stay I noticed that a Security Guard was also employed walking around the grounds. Our pitch was situated next to the road which was quite busy with traffic (this road goes down to the beach and promenade area). At night there was numerous traffic speeding up and down this lane well over the 30mph speed limit. We also had problems with the wi-fi on site and couldn't get an internet connection during our stay, this being a temporary problem we were informed. Having said all this the site is really beautifully well kept and the wardens were terrific. Only a 10 minute walk down the hill to a lovely promenade and sea.
This is an excellent site with a great location with regard to proximity to Edinburgh.
The problem for us was the security of the site as the area within which it is located is very poor.
In the early hours of our first night here, thieves tried to steal our expensive mountain bikes. They cut through three steel ropes with bolt croppers and only woke us up when our motorhome moved when they tried to yank the bike from it's holder. Luckily for us, they were unsuccessful, others were not so lucky on that night or the following one. If you have expensive bikes, you will need chain type locks to ensure that they are secure. We are told by the site that nothing like this has ever happened before and we certainly hope that it never happens again. We also witnessed a couple of strange activities. The afternoon before the thefts we saw a man walking along the grass behind the vans (very unusual and not the done thing), we believed they were casing the joint ready for the night time thefts. Be vigilant in the afternoons in case you see this type of behaviour. The target of the thefts was clearly expensive bikes. This note is not to put you off staying on this brilliant site but be mindful of your own security of your property when you choose to stay here.
Other than our bad luck, the site was beautiful, clean and tidy. The staff were brilliant and it breaks my heart to have to write my previous statement.
The area around the site is not good but there are many easy ways to access Edinburgh and the surrounding area. We stayed for four nights in the end. There is a lot of flight noise from the airport and a bit of a smell of aviation fuel at times. The pitch sizes were generous and they were well laid out.
This is a site I used to pass as a child when living close by! Bigger site than it looks from outside, excellent facilities and good sized pitches. Just a short walk down to the beach, excellent for dog walkers. Good cycling and running from site. Planes might bother some people, but used didn't bother us! Shuttle minibus runs from site, handy for those who don't want to walk to bus stop approx 1 mile away.
Very convenient for visiting Edinburgh and lovely walks for dogs along beach just a short stroll away. Couldn't fault the staff very friendly and helpful. There was slightly traffic noise but nothing considering its location to the city centre.Would definitely recommend
