This site is superb, we were greeted by a lovely warden who was a ray of sunshine, explained the site in great detail ( perfect ). We then drove round to pick our pitch and immediately noticed how immaculate the condition of the site, all the lawned areas looked fantastic, the hedges and there are many , are all neat and tidy, the shower block was very clean and tidy and plenty of hot water, the shower block is a little dated. Now what I think is fantastic all the lights around this site are working oh joy, so many of the sites we go to have so many lights not working. These wardens are extremely hard working , thank you for all your hard work
Good site. Take advantage of the minibus.
Traveled up from yorkshire to Scotland and stayed here for 2 night in September. Great site and the only noise was the planes as the airport is nearby but not a real problem. Staff are great and very informative and helpful. The one tip I can give is if you are thinking of going into the city is to use the mini bus that will pick you up from opposite reception. Give them a ring (reception as the number) and for £6 p/p return he will pick you up and bring you back later it only takes 15 mins each way which is far quicker than the bus and a lot less bother as the nearest bus stop is 15 mins walk away and the about 45 mins ride. Overall a great site to stay at. Use the mini bus.
Nice Place
Everything was fine, but the WiFi didn't work very well, especially between 9pm and 9am it did not work.
Wonderful Edinburgh
This was a return visit to this site after eight year as we wanted to explore the city more. Generally facilities are fine if a bit dated and disappointing that the motorhome service points still need heavy covers to be lifted, especially as this is a very popular site with motorhomes from both home and abroad. The aircraft noise has certainly increased since our last visit, lasting well into the night. Obviously completely outside the control of the Club. There are two main options for getting into the City. There are a couple of frequent bus services from Muirhouse Parkway which is at least a three quarter of a mile walk from the site. The 27 bus is a direct route into and across the City or the 16 which also goes to the Centre but via the Ocean Terminal area where you can visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. The main downside is that I would not want to walk back from the bus when it was dark along an unlit road. The other option is the excellent fixed priced taxi service from outside reception which drops you off at the top of Princes Street. I was a little surprised when I rang the site prior to arrival to confirm the service was still running and the staff seem keen to point out it was nothing to do with them. Given that it is such an essential service for this site I imagined it would have been embraced a bit more! As the campsite is clearly run in conjunction with the City Council I am surprised the idea of diverting one of the buses along Marine Drive has not been explored. Putting all that to one side we enjoyed the couple of days we spent exploring Edinburgh. The 27 bus stops at the Botanic Gardens if you want to break your journey. We also visited Holyrood Palace and enjoyed a sunny Saturday afternoon in the Castle Gardens after a visit to the Portrait Gallery.
Great location for the city if you are OK with some noise
Stayed for 3 nights in Sept. Cycled to the new Forth Road Bridge on mainly traffic free routes. Maps in info hut cover part of this. 22 mile round trip, great views. Wide cycle path on bridge.
We found the aircraft noise a bit intrusive at the site, from 7 am until 3am one lands every few minutes. As they are coming in gear down it is not as bad as take off but you are aware of it.
Went to the city in the Minibus. Highly recommended!! Time arranged by phone and took us in 15 mins to the city drop off and pick up point. 2 min walk and we were on the tour of the city bus. Brilliant. It's a couple of pounds more than the service bus...but with the walk and the 40 min intervals they can take an hour each way. Be aware there are no street lights outside the site and for us door to door was worth the extra £4. Driver knowledgeable and friendly.
Site facilities due for a refresh, shower blocks a bit dated but functional, drive over drain still has a lift cover.
Really enjoyed Edinburgh and the site did what we needed. We are also really good at identifying aircraft now!
Consistent High Standard
This is our second visit to this site and we were pleased to see that the excellent quality of maintenance and the friendly helpful staff atmosphere hadn't changed in the interim. Terrific dog walk.
I’ll Be Back
This has to be one of the best sites around for visiting Edinburgh.
We arrived earlier than we expected and were met by courteous friendly staff in reception, nothing was too much trouble and their priority was to make sure that we had a pleasant stay.
Good access into the city and all local attractions.
We plan on visiting again next year.
Another great stay!
Just heading home after a very enjoyable 9 nights at Silverknowes, Edinburgh.
We have been caravanning for 17 years and this is the site we have used most.
The site is in a great location being close to the Firth of Forth with lovely walks along the shore. We like to walk to the picturesque village of Cramond and a walk to Cramond Island is a must when the tide allows.
The city itself is within easy reach, either by a short walk for the city buses or by the privately operated mini bus to and from the site.
The wardens are very pleasant and helpful and keep the site and its amenities immaculate.....Thank you all again for another great stay! 😊
Return journey
We stayed here earlier on in the year, with our dog and decided to return to do some walking up Arthur’s Seat and across the Forth Road Bridge. Unfortunately our dog hurt her foot so we did neither!
The site was beautiful again well manicured and very clean. The wardens were very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately this time, perhaps because it was summer there was a lot more local traffic noise. I’m not talking aircraft but cars, motorbikes etc. Speeding along the front road. This is not good for our nervous dog so wouldn’t return. But if we didn’t have her and wanted to sample the delights of Edinburgh we would definitely return. We had no criticism of the site unfortunately the road noise is not for our hound.
near perfect
We have just had 3 days staying at the Edinburgh site while visiting Edinburgh, It is an absolutely lovely site very well kept grounds and the facilities were immaculately clean I was well impressed, The staff and wardens were very friendly and helpful, especially Shaun who went above and beyond to help us out when a stud on our electric step sheared off he brought us a step to use during our stay, Thank's again Shaun.
Only downside to the site is, it's on the flight path for the airport and it does sound loud when they go over early morning and evening time, and the nearest bus stop is a good 10-15 mins walk away, Edinburgh centre is approx 4.5 mile away, so the bus takes approx 45 mins to get you there.
Apart from them little niggles the site itself is spot on and we will definitely be going again.
