Busy Edinburgh

Stayed at this site for the first two weeks of the fringe was a busy site but the wardens were always pleasant knowledgable and helpful. The site was tidy and clean, two toilet blocks so you avoid the wait whilst they are being cleaned. The site is close to some lovely walks and easy access into Edinburgh. Great time at the fridge to be recommended.

Good base for Fringe

We stayed here for 4 days to visit a number of events in the town centre. Staff are very helpful and found a nice pitch. Nice site and well kept. Toilets are spotless but dated, never had any difficulty in getting a shower. We used the bus service every day which is around a 10 minute walk from site. Very cheap for a day ticket and good service generally apart from later in evening when shows and Tattoo mean huge numbers of pedestrians and traffic. The site was a great peaceful haven to escape the buzz and bedlam of the city centre.

Great site great service

Just spent 2 days on site . Good facilities good layout Staff were very helpful and nice walks nearby on sea front. Bit of a walk to bus stop but regular service . Good site to visit Edinburgh

What a gem

This site is lovely and clean with level, good size pitches, and is only a five minute walk from the beautiful promenade. We were there first week of August and the weather was gorgeous. Absolutely loads to see and do in Edinburgh. Try visiting Britannia, or Queensferry (where boat trips are organised) and walk through the quaint, cobbled streets full of shops and bars, or if you want a good restaurant overlooking the sea then you'll be spoilt for choice. We will definitely return soon.

Noise from all sides, fast drivers on site.

Positives this is a very neat and tidy site with both grass areas and trees kept trimmed. Washrooms are immaculate although slightly dated. You do have air traffic as this is on a flight path to Edinburgh airport but to be honest this was about the only noise that didn’t bother us. We only used this site as a base so didn’t spend much time onsite however the time we did spend on it we did experience lots of noise, for the first two days we had a family who thought it funny to annoy their dog with it persistently barking when I did mention this too the warden they looked surprised and advised they had just patrolled and not heard any noise. This was strange as everyone around them also had had enough! Eventually the noisy family left. Other noises that we experienced were the be boy racers at the road surrounding the front of the site or at he back of the site on an evening up until about 10pm you will have thudding of footballs from the indoor pitches behind the site with loud spectator cheering at the weekend in addition we had a rude awakening on early Sunday morning from the football pitch arena behind the site from a loud incessant humming which came from machinery going over the artificial pitches this lasted what seemed like an eternity. I had read about the bike theft problem and was fully aware regarding the bike lockers I phoned the reception the day before we left who advised that we should not bring a bike as it would likely be stolen, with regret I left the bikes at home although on arrival to the site a receptionist looked surprised I had left the bikes at home and advised that there is no longer a bike theft problem with use of the lockers! We have children under 10 years of age and feared for their safety as campers vehicles sped through the site ignoring the 5mph limit, the site had campers from many nationalities although speeders mainly appeared to be form the UK. This site is a good location for Edinburgh despite this we would likely not return purely based on noise levels surrounding the site.

Do not bring bikes to this site

Site is clean and has friendly helpful staff but has a serious problem with bike theft. I would not recommend bringing bikes to this site. They have CCTV but it is too large a site to be able to monitor it fully. There are some lockers but not enough for all the bikes brought to the site.

With regards to bike theft, we are Sorry to hear that this has occurred at our Edinburgh Club Site. We have been informed by the Site Team that several precautionary measures to minimise the risk of such an occurrence have been taken. The Site Staff have assured us that preventative measures, such as extra storage lockers and the use of CCTV , are firmly in place at the site. Good location for Edinburgh city

We stopped here for one night on our way back down south after being up at Aberdeen. The way in through the outskirts of the city are a bit industrialised and ugly and full of potholes , however the site itself is a stones throw from the coast and once within its gates , it is very countrified setting. Welcome was good , with the warden giving us a lot of information , abut everything , she was very helpful.. Able to pick your own pitch , we had one close to the toilet block ( which in hindsight maybe too close as the door closing on the toilet block could be heard every 10-15 mins ! ha ha , also so late at night ?) Anyhow we initially tried the public transport , we picked to use the bus stop which was down a "path" running down the side of the site , I would not advise using this at night , looked a decidedly "dodgy" footpath. We caught the bus and went into the city to see Brittania which was well worth a visit although £16.50 per adult entry , but we liked it. We then returned to the site to get our Smart car and went back into the centre of the city , which was buzzing and we had a good night there. Next day went to have a shower , in our block there was only 4 showers and there was a constant queue for them I wasn't going to queue so eventually after an hour and half I went over and found one empty , I can never work out why they have so many sink cubicles ? Surely better to turn some of these into more showers ? Cant put my finger on it but the site atmosphere was not great , maybe a lot of overnighters or something but just didn't seem a friendly site , pitch layout didn't help either as you could see most of the site from your pitch and it was a bit of a maze to get around. The motor hone service point by our block also posed an issue as there was only one drain and it was on the wrong side for my unit , which meant I had to drive down the one way the wrong way to drive over it , luckily I recognised the warden from Sandringham , a lovely lady and she left me off ! Overall a "nice" site , very good for visiting Edinburgh , but I would probably only use it as a stopover and not for a long break

Clean but noisy

Friendly staff, clean facilities, good for visiting Edinburgh BUT constant noise from aircraft overhead and regular noise from traffic so not the place for a peaceful break. Our weekend was spoiled by neighbouring couple constantly bickering with each other day and night every day, standing smoking and on her mobile in other people’s pitches! Had to turn our tv/music up to drown out the noise. First time we’ve experienced this lack of respect for other on a cc site.

A very good site

We love to stay at this site when we visit Edinburgh. Very well run and organised with the friendliest staff.

Good site with good bike security arrangements

Had a 3 night stay last weekend primarily to visit The Royal Highland Show and do some cycling. Site staff very helpful and gave good advice regarding best public transport to the Show as driving/ traffic is a nightmare. I was given access to a secure bike locker for our 2 bikes as cycle thefts can occur locally. The locker has an alarm which was easily armed/ disarmed and I appreciated the use of the locker- we had no issues. We had an enjoyable cycle almost entirely off road using cycle paths to South Queensferry then across the old Forth Road Bridge which has dedicated cycling lanes. It’s safe and very popular - we were cyclists 447 and 448 the day we visited. Overall a good visit and returning in August.
