Very nice site

Had a very pleasant 3 nights. We were on one of the new Serviced pitches which are excellent. Site is very convenient to both Durham and the surrounding area. Will definitely go again.

Excellent for visiting durham

Good site with nice clean facilities, a play area for children and and a dog walk, park and ride is just along the road so ideal for visiting Durham, some road noise can be heard but hardly noticeable when in the caravan.

3 January nights in Durham

easy access off the A1. Nice welcome. Some road noise as has been mentioned previously - but hardly noticeable when pitched, and it really didn't affect our sleep in a VW California - so it would be quieter in most units. We had intended to use the park and ride, or a taxi as recommended but the wardens, but each day we found it very easy to park in the city centre. Highly recommend the Durham castle tour. Cathedral good too. Must return in the summer for a longer walk around the river... lovely site, thank you.

3 Degrees do Durham

I booked Durham Grange for a Girls Christmas Sopping weekend. What a great weekend, the reception was warm and friendly especially when i said i might need help reversing the caravan. Nothing was too much trouble for the wardens. The pitches were of good size and i parked it pretty well, even if do say so myself! We were close to the toilet block which was immaculate and my friends were really impressed, one of them is not a "camper" of any description!! so well done. Yes there is the sound of road noise but it's not too bad considering where you are. Its so easy to find and if you're not looking you may miss the turn off the A690 as you're right on it! Ease of access off the A1 is outstanding pay off for that the road noise. Not a problem for us i have to say. Had a great day out in Durham at the markets although the traffic into town was a nightmare but once in the atmosphere was lovely. Well worth a visit. You can walk to the Park and Ride but it's not the best walk as you have to walk alongside the busy road sometimes on the grass verge. We got a Taxi it was about £7 We would definitely go back to the site and to Durham.  well done wardens

Excellent location but noisy

We chose this site as a base for exploring the North East and found the location to be ideal. Apart from the delights of nearby Durham city, we managed to see the Beamish Living Museum near Stanley, Angel of the North and Northumberlandia, the extremely interesting Royal Navy Museum at Hartlepool with its famous HMS Trincomalee, and a day out in Newcastle seeing the city and the Discovery Museum. So an area rich in attractions with the site is very close to the main routes. However, this was also our biggest complaint as we did find the traffic noise too much during the night, with the volume of traffic undiminished in the small hours. The site itself is small and well run and the facilities spotlessly clean, although it is an unspectacular flat area with a few trees but no special features. Unfortunately in late autumn there were piles of leaves from the few trees and on our arrival the warden was busy with a very noisy leaf-blower. I was then given a sharp dressing down by the warden for creating a health and safety hazard by filling my water barrel using a hose across the path from the service point. This was quite understandable as it did present a trip hazard, but after some 6 hours on the road it started our break with a bit of bad feeling. Otherwise it was a pleasant enough site with some excellent places to visit, although in future I will look for somewhere not quite so noisy.

An all-year good resting place

Not exactly parkland setting but its value is its location on the doorstep of Durham City and the Dales and as close to the A1 as a Travel Lodge! So with friendly welcome and good, clean and warm loo block, great for a stop-over or to explore the area .

Excellent Winter site

Stayed during a storm and cold spell but clear sunny skies. This is a great site for exploring Durham with plenty to do in the City . The Catherdral and Castle tours are a must and good value for money and the surrounding countryside is spectacular. The facilities are excellent. There is a park and ride into Durham which is 10 minutes walk from the site there is a path over the A1 to it but becareful it's a busy road. The road noise is not a problem and only barely noticeable in the rush hour periods particularly if you choose a plot on the left side of the site, we were not at all disturbed by it. Helpful and very friendly staff with advice on hand.
