Excellent warden, lovely grass pitch and perfectly placed 2 mins off the A1. if your travelling far, this is a great stop off point.
Our second caravan venture
We stayed at Durham Grange on the 23rd Sept for two nights , only our second outing in our recently purchased caravan. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the facilities were of excellent standard. We would like to thank the gentleman from Norfolk for his invaluable help and advice on getting us into our pitch safely. We obviously looked liked novices ( lol ).
Will definitely be booking this site again , only downside was slight traffic noise .

Third Stop of Autumn Tour
Durham is a Beautiful City with much to see. The walk from site is good especially the part beside The River Weare. The location is good apart from constant noise from the two dual carriageways. However, this is less annoying than occasional traffic is if one stays near a bypass with roundabouts or traffic lights. Site facilties are excellent and all staff very helpful.
Dining out can be really reasonable and most places are dog friendly, except near the site. We will return to see more in future.

Durham in Transit
We stayed at Durham this summer and found it to be very well sited, easy to find and up to the usual standard for Caravan Club sites. There is back ground noise from the A1 motorway although it is not excessive. There is an interesting walk into Durham (footpath and river side) and the city also interesting. The site is well situated for trips by road or train into Newcastle and surrounding towns and cities.
Excellent 6 days in Durham
Just returned from a 6 day stay at Durham Grange and we were very impressed with the site and the staff. Plenty to do in the surrounding area to keep us fully occupied although a lot of visitors seem to stay only 1 or 2 days in transit elsewhere. Site was full most days so advance booking essential.
The highlights of our stay were visits to the Oriental Museum at the university (exceptional value), the cathedral (but found the no photograph rule irritating and unnecessary), Cragside NT and the national railway museum near Bishop Auckland. Not impressed with the Durham heritage coast but it did lead us towards Hartlepool and an historic picture of my wife with her arm around the Andy Capp statue.
Whilst I would endorse other reviewers comments re difficulty crossing the A690 to get to the no.20 bus stops in Carrville to the city centre, there was of course the option of driving the quarter of mile to the Belmont P&R where you could park FOC and pay £2 return. Unfortunately P&R stops at 7pm so no good for evenings out.
Long weekend break
I booked this site primarily because we were attending an event at the Elddis factory and it was ideally placed. Excellent for getting into Durham and all the surrounding area.
Yes. There is some noise from the A1 as it runs below the site but when the site map shows you were it is noise is to be expected. Didn't spoil our stay and you do tune it out.
The site has excellent toilet facilities which are spotless- when we stayed only one warden couple on site and they worked really hard to keep everything ship shape
Pitches are very big and given a choice I would have had a full service one but the hardstanding was more than adequate.
There is a dog walk on site but don't expect to be walking miles on it as it's just to the edge of the site. You can go out the main gate (barrier controlled) and take the footpath to the right which runs alongside the main road for a longer walk.
All in all a very good stay with excellent wardens and I will be using this site again as it's ideal if you're travelling further north or indeed south!
Grandchildreens treat
We took the two grandchildren for a six day treat. (2&4 ) we were located on a S.P. site next to the play area which was handy. The site was almost full for the whole period. The great North run was being held in nearby Newcastle, in which the children's parents and their brother were participating in. This site was handy and easily located off the A 1(M). We found Beamish open air museum a 40 minuets drive away kids loved it. Nearby Durham has some extensive road works at present so we avoided going in, although a Park & ride is near the site. Facilities on site were v.g. limited purchases available at reception. One point on the down side is the road noise almost continuous throughout. But we shall return a some stage.
NICE BUT NOISEY
Nice site but so much noise from the A1.
We got very little sleep through the 11 nights we spent there.
Very good wardens who keep the site 1st rate.
Easy to get into Durham by car or by park and ride just outside the site
Would go again but only for 2/3 nights.
Would make a good stop over on way up north.
Excellent Position
We used this site as a stopover on our way down to Norfolk. It is perfectly placed, just off the A1M, as a mid-point for any travellers from Scotland. The site is level with good sized pitches. The toilets are of a very high standard (as you'd expect). There may be some background noise from the motorway but this is not intrusive and we hardly noticed it. There is a good sized kids play area at the top of the site and if you're a dog owner, a short walk from the site takes you down a lane, across a couple of fields and down to the river from where, if you're energetic enough, you can walk the 3 miles into the city. For the less mobile the Park&Ride is only 5 minutes away just over the motorway and at only £2 return is fantastic value. Durham is a gem of a visitor attraction and should not be missed. We'll definitely use this site again - and again.
DurhamGrange
A very peasant site.We had a service pitch. Well worth the extra charge as I didn't have to fill endless barrels of water and empty the resulting waste. Staff were excellent, very welcoming and helpful. Only a short drive into the very beautiful city and not very far away from the hidden retail park and big Tesco's.
we enjoyed looking around the area, probably missed more than we saw.
recommend this site to anyone. Yes, there is some noise from the A1(M) but we found it insignificant.
