Durham Grange, Ideal for a city break or a stop over on your way North Or South

Durham Grange is Ideally situated just off the A1m in County Durham and maybe a mile or two from the beautiful Cathedral City of Durham. Shopaholics will find it really convenient for visiting the Metro Centre in Gateshead, Durham City and Teesside. Heritage buffs will find it great for visiting places such as Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham Cathedral, Raby Castle and a bit further afield Hadrians Wall and the coastal Castles of Northumberland, all within an hour or two by car. For those that like beautiful countryside couldn't come to a better place with the North York Moors not too far away and upper Teesdale , Weardale and Tynedale all close by. The site is well equipped, clean and tidy with helpful staff on hand should you have any problems. If you have a long journey from the North or South that is perhaps a bit too long to complete in one day then it is the ideal place to stay overnight being only a few hundred yards off the motorway.

Great Staff

Due to adverse weather conditions during January 2018 I had a difficult time trying to retrieve my caravan from a grass storage pitch. The staff were wonderful, with the help of a small tractor they got me onto my pitch. Due to Warden change over they had only been on site for 3 days and were still familiarising themselves with their environment. They were more than happy to help and never gave up, thanks for saving our weekend break.

Beautiful site

We visited this site for the first time in November so that we could go into town for the Lumiere. The wardens were very helpful and friendly the site very near to the park and ride about a 10 minute walk away. We will certainly use this site again now we’ve found it.

Great stop over spotlessly clean site, just mind the barrier!

Great site for a stop over on the way south. Spotlessly clean site with a great dog walk a short distance off site. Be careful getting to the dog walk area though as it's towards a very busy road. There is a slight noise from the A1, but we were there in the winter and with windows closed, it wasn't too bad. Be careful of the barrier when leaving though, hopefully it's been adjusted, but we aren't that long at 8.3m, and it tried closing on our motor home twice on leaving. Once we were lucky and quickly reversed, second we had to floor it. A couple arriving looked concerned, and it was reported and acknowledged by staff that something was wrong, and would be looked at. Apart from now being terrified of electric barriers, a great site and would highly recommend!

Durham Grange

We used Durham Grange to visit family in the North East and enjoy a return visit to Beamish museum. The site location is convenient for access, but loses out due to the ever present drone of traffic from the adjacent A1. The site is immaculate, the wardens helpful and friendly and as a touring base it is well situated (5 -10 mins drive into Durham, 20 mins or so to Beamish). As previously stated the only downside is the background traffic noise, a price you have to pay for the convenience of being within 1/4mile of the motorway.

To noisy from A1

Visited this site at the end of October for a weekend. The staff were friendly and the site was very clean. Unfortunately there was too much noise from the A1 and if you are travelling northbound it is difficult to access the right turn into the site once you have exited the A1. Would be better going right round the roundabout at the top the of A1 exit so you are in the correct lane. Not sure if I will visit again in the future or recommend.

Too Noisy from A1 - sorry

Booked this as it had received previous good reviews and was showing 5 stars. Staff were friendly and usual high standard of facilities but the noise from the A1 is horrendous. I should have paid more attention on the map as to how close it is. I would never stay again and sorry cant recommend purely because of the noise.

Ideal stopover

We used this site as a stopover on our way home following a tour of Scotland and wish we had more time to stay. The site is ideally situated just off the A1 and although you can hear the traffic noise it is not overly intrusive. The site is well maintained with a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches which are all level.Thr facilities are what we have come to expect from the club and the welcome was warm and friendly. We managed a quick trip into Durham and will definitely return for a longer stay.

Holiday in the North East

We found this to be a very pleasant site situated about three miles from Durham city centre. The site is mostly flat with a slight slope at one end. There is a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches. The shower and toilet facilities were very clean, modern and well maintained. In the male section there were six w.c.'s, six privacy cubicles, four or five showers, four urinals and two washbasins. The showers were of adequate size and had a bench rather than the stool arrangement found on some sites. The washing up facilities had three sinks. The information office was well stocked and the wardens were courteous, helpful and friendly. The site is close to the A1(M) but we did not find the road noise intrusive in any way. There is a Park and Ride facility about fifteen minutes walk from the site but it is necessary to cross several busy roads/slip roads to get to it. One crossing in particular is quite hazardous as the traffic is coming at you from around a blind bend. It is not a pleasant walk. The bus takes less than ten minutes to the centre of Durham. There are no pubs or restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the site and it would be necessary to negotiate much the same route as the Park and Ride to get to one, although it would be a longer walk. Overall we found the site to be of a high standard and very peaceful and quiet.
