Disappointed

The location is lovely and staff very helpful. Railway station very close so could leave the car behind. Toilets not a problem but we found the showers were small, cramped and not clean enough. Not to CC standard and would not go back.

September stay

Whilst it is dry our pitch was ok. When it rained we were surrounded by water. The wardens agreed that the site is badly drained. Showers need updating, so come on CC this is just not up to standard. Very disappointed.

wonderful holiday

We have just returned from a 10 stay here and had a wonderful time until the end of the holiday, but more of that later... Its an interesting site with the pitches set in small areas, some can be shaded but just take your time choosing to ensure morning/evening sun. our choice gave us afternoon sun but was shaded by 6ish. We had pitch 70 which backed onto the quarry and did not find the noise intrusive however we spent the daytime mainly off the site. Toilets and showers are dated but very clean, the composting toilet is rather disconcerting initially though! I must admit though having toilets and showers separate is strange. We tended to use our own facilities but that was our choice. The weather was glorious whilst we were there and we took advantage of visiting many of the picturesque bays and coves in the area. Lulworth cove and Durdle Door being our favourite. To return to the penultimate day, unfortunately my other half sustained a nasty fall which resulted in him needing hospital attention and unable to weight bear. I had several offers and actual assistance from our neighbours to assist with packing up, thank you! We were also offered assistance by the warden, who even ensured we were able to return home and offered to tow us if it had been his day off! Definitely beyond the call of duty. We would definitely like to return to this site.

Visit August 2015

We stayed here for three nights and very much enjoyed our stay. The showers were a little dated and cramped and could do with an upgrade. The toilets were OK but took a little getting used to. A friendly welcome.

Unique

This was our third site on our tour, what a lovely greeting from the lovely wardens and deer as a reception committee. The site is just so unusual and to see deer roaming between your vans is just lovely. The composting toilets were not a problem , did not smell and this was July and warm. if there was one complaint it was that the showers are in great need of an upgrade very old tired and extractor fans not working so mould up the walls, not the wardens fault, come on CC it needs sorting.

Great park with a couple of downsides

We booked this site despite warnings about "strange" toilet facilities and noise from the local trains and quarry. The site itself is very picturesque and has an interesting undulating landscape which makes you feel that you are on a more intimate site than one which holds 93 units. We had no problems with the toilets, which in fact are to be applauded for their ecologically friendly operation. The showers too were more than adequate and kept clean by the wardens. The site is well maintained and the wardens, as you would expect on a CC site, were more than helpful. The location is ideal for touring in the area and, should you desire an alternative to the car or not wish to "decamp" your motorhome, there is a very useful rail station and bus stops very nearby. There is also an excellent, well stocked, reasonably priced, local Co-op within walking distance which, strangely, is not mentioned in the site leaflet. The wildlife is abundant and we had the delight of a family of four deer passing the rear of our caravan early one morning. Two problems. Whilst we were there the weather was not good and many of the pitches, the vast majority of which are grass, were waterlogged....indeed we could not move from our caravan without wearing wellington boots. It has to be said, however, that the rain had been heavy and, despite this, the ground remained relatively firm and we had no problem pulling off the site after five days of wet. The other problem was the very noisy road at the rear of where we pitched in The Warren. From as early as 5.00am there were heavy lorries, motorbikes and cars constantly passing close to us. This problem could be avoided by pitching elsewhere on the site....although this may give you problems with noise from trains or the quarry, neither of which we experienced. I would be happy to stay at Crossways again but would keep my eye on the long range weather forecast and would take more time selecting a quieter pitch.

Lovely are little bit of heaven. I have been looking at the reviews and just wanted to say to anyone that complains, if you want more pay more , i have a toilet in the caravan so the toilets dont bother me. The showers do there job and the Wardens keep them clean, in the short time given to them for cleaning before thay have to open the office again. Your getting good value . Trees, birds, Dear what more could you want! Thanks Crossways.

Disappointed

This is not your usual C&CC Site. Located in a old quarry, there are steep areas with narrow roads across the site - watch children on bikes, especially going against the one way system. The site is bordered by a working quarry, we had constant digger/lorry noise (beeping/rumbling) from 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays. A train line also borders the site, trains run regularly all day, every day and each one sounds its horn as it approaches the level crossing on the road outside the site. Toilet/shower facilities are "interesting". The composting toilets have a large chute underneath each one - you wouldn't let a small child use one unsupervised (seriously)! The showers are in separate buildings from the toilets. Lots of trees make it very pretty but limit the amount if sunlight getting to pitches. Absolutely no wifi or 3/4g - makes you realise how much you rely on your phone now on holiday for planning trips, working out routes, etc - very frustrating. In fact, EE haven't discovered Dorset at all! Would only recommend for weekend stays and not for families with young children, as you can't give them the independence that you usually can on CC&C Sites.

lovely site

Read previous review and have to disagree, it is strange to have shower block and toilets separate but thats no reason to give a bad rating and a shower curtain no different from a door. Perfectly clean facilities, clean and tidy site great location for train into weymouth, dorchester and bournemouth and pub next to railway station. Definitely come again

Disapointing

Crossways is a very attractive site with pitches in small glades in an old quarry. A short walk from Moreton station with trains to Dorchester and Weymouth in one direction and Poole and Bournemouth in the other, the downside being periodic train noise. However one or two things need looking at. We have always thought it a good idea to separate the showers from the toilets but not so far that it becomes an inconvenience and when one block is closed for cleaning its a long walk to the next. The wash cubicles could do with something more substantial than a shower curtain, this is certainly not up to CC standards. Finally as motorhome owners not enough thought was given to the siting of the service point. It was impossible to line up over the drain as it was too close to the taps etc. and meant half our van was blocking the road. We then found that we could not open the lid anyway. We arrived at the end of a very wet day and then had a disagreement with a warden so not a very good start to our stay. Fortunately the weather changed for the better for a couple of days otherwise we might have given up and gone home but we won't be going back anytime soon.
