Just found our favourite site

We visited for the first time on 03 April and stayed for seven nights and have to say that it's the first time we have all felt that a new site ticked all our boxes. This really was a joy from start to finish. The facilities were absolutely spotless. No worries with dry composting toilets, in fact, it's the first time we've not been bothered by the mess left by other less considerate users! Showers are separate and had a plentiful supply of hot water. Dishwashing areas also had plenty of very hot water - a blessing, as so used to places with tepid to cold water for washing up, so very pleased about this too. Wardens on site are incredibly friendly and helpful and clearly work hard and take pride in their role. The main joy is the site itself. No overcrowded pitches. Instead, a wonderful choice of areas, many offering privacy amidst the beautiful woodland in which the site is situated. A wonderful array of wildlife was enjoyed throughout each and every day. From the cheeky pheasant in our awning in the morning, the many deer which can be seen (we even managed to hand feed a couple of them!) and the amazing variety of birds visiting bird feeders dotted around the site and even our own which we take everywhere with us. The Frampton Arms is a short walk from the site and offers a good selection of bar and restaurant menu food throughout the day. Have to say that Crossways has immediately become our most favourite site so far and we can't wait for our return visit. Just a note to say that the mobile phone and tv reception on site is poor to non-existent at times. If you have your own co-axial tv cable, then make sure you've packed it, as there's a plug-in for tv available on the EHU unit.

Kick back and Relax

Yes, the train noise is audible, as is the nearby road. Also occasionally, if you really listen, you may hear earth working machinery from the adjacent site too. However the birdsong, general uncluttered feeling of the site layout together with the sighting of deer roaming freely about make up for all that and allow you to kick back and relax. Sure, the toilets and separate shower rooms are a little tired compared to the most up to date caravan club site facilities but they are kept clean and tidy by the wardens and perfectly serviceable. None of the regimented pitch lines of hard standing pitches here. You pitch on mostly small grassed areas, in wooded glades which adds to the relaxed ambiance. True, some of the pitch areas could do with proper hard standing bases to make them usable and perhaps the club may well invest some money to make that so in the future but not, I hope, at the expense of taking away what tranquil grass areas already exist. Nice site - we'll visit again

Crossways Chillout

Have just had a 2 night stay at this site. We arrived to find deer feeding opposite the booking in office, nice start! The wardens were very friendly and helpful, the pitch they suggested was spot on. No sooner were we settled in and more deer wandered past, not bothered by us at all, so a great photo opportunity was grabbed. Very quiet, plenty of bird song evening and morning and a good size pitch. Compost toilets do their job as do the showers. The pub is 5 minutes walk away on reasonably level ground (great food, discounted on some evenings if staying on the site) and the railway (also a short walk) gives good access to lots of places. Well worth more than 1 visit!!

Short stay on a beautiful site

We were only able to stay for one night at the last weekend before the winter break. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful setting of pitches, Toilets and showers were very clean, the site very tidy. Our dog liked the walk and the field close by. The train does not run at night time, so this did not disturb us. It's not far from home and the area is worth a visit. It was our first stay as new members to the club and we hope that many more will follow.

6 night break

We arrived late afternoon Martin (warden) took us to review some pitches as the site can be water logged on some area's this time of year but found one no problem. Yes as other's have said toilets a bit strange at first and showers a bit dated but we use our own. It's a lovely site in a great location pub, train, all next door! Train noise didn't bother us, a visit to the tank museum is a must 8 miles away and of course hardy country! Wardens were great shame they are moving we will return.

Stopover or Relax?

This site is mainly quiet with plenty of birdsong, it is ideal for short stays with railway station a short walk away or local bus service to Dorchester. The is a very well maintained and clean site. Sad to hear that the wardens Anne-Marie & Mel are moving on each time we were on site that were always most helpful and obliging we wish them every success on there new site location.

The most friendly wardens we have ever met

We arrived late and the wardens were so friendly and helpful. Guiding us to our pitch and staying until we hadhooked up. That said the sound of the train horn every 30 minutes until 10.30pm was not the most peaceful start to our break. Next morning woke up and looked out to be able to see the passengers on the train going past was a surprise and really think the proximatey of certain pitches should be mentioned in the details  A trip to the showers was eventful and would strongly suggest they need up dating. I would be be very concerned if my 3 year old granddaughter was using the compost loo's which we've never encountered before. The personal touches around the site were lovely and made it unique, however as other reviews have said during the working week there is some noise from a factory which certainly competed with the trains for noise. Don't think we would return here which is a shame as the surrounding area was well worth visiting

Charming woodland site, slight noise from quarry if parked close but not a great problem. Dry toilets in our view are great. Wardens were so friendly and helpful and there added extra little touches enhance the site. If it has any fault its the small showers and the lack of space or hook put all your stuff, apart from that very small grip it a wonderful site that we will visit again.

Great Site

We stayed here overnight last weekend & thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of nooks & crannies, so a feeling of privacy. Wardens very friendly & accommodating. The local pub which is a 5 minute walk away is excellent. On the down side, the eco- toilets are just weird, it's like sitting on a bucket with a 15 foot drop beneath you. Also the motorhome waste disposal is a little tight to manoeuvre into but that's being a bit picky. On the Sunday morning we had a visit from a very tame young deer which was quite a sight & was happily feeding from our hands. Overall an excellent relaxing stay.
